Help me! Something must be wrong! I found out yesterday that I will be going to Disney in August... and I'm not excited.

I know the reason, so it's not like a surprise. I've been to Disney 5 times, all with my parents and sister and all in January. This trip will me with my mom sister, cousins, aunt and uncle.

I'm a bit of a patterned, scheduled traditionalist (an annoying feature that I inherited from my Dad) and I'm afraid of going when it will be hot, crowded and without my usual group (namely my Dad).

What can I do to get myself back into the spirit and over my... fears, I guess you can call them? I want to be excited!!! I usually am! Any suggestions?!

Love Always,
Merfsko

First off, how can you not be excited about Disney? I would be excited even going by myself!!

Jus think of all the fun things to do and talk to all the other people that are going and make plans for dinner and other fun things. That is what gets me excited. I am going in November and the more my DD and DH talk about it the more excited I get. Just the thought of getting away to the Happiest Place on Earth should excite you.

August is not too bad. If you get hot just go into a store or air conditioned attraction. Swim in the afternoon and cool off then go back out for Dinner. Drink lots of water and bring a little fan.

Have fun.

Diamondintheruff- Although I'm nto feeling 100% I don't think there will be any swapping go on:P

Minnie1156- Good question, about me not being excited. I guess I am... I'm just gonna miss my Dad not being there and I'm not a fan of crowds. Thanks for your post- I'm feeling much better:) I think once it sinks in and the shock wears of I'll be in a much more excited mood!

may I ask without being too personal, why isn't you dad going?

Well, it's an RV trip. Disney is one of our (and the best) stop on our way. My Dad is not a driver AT all (we've always flown down) and he wouldn't have a good time, esp. with my loud cousins.
I've been thinking about it all, though (and planning) and I think I'll be fine (the excitement's kicked in). My Dad and I (and us alone in the family) are very scheduled, planned, detailed people, and that's waht I'm used to. But a not-detailed trip will be ane epereince- and who know, maybe I'll enjoy it even more!

Have a great Time. My husband is very detail oriented too but when I go with my daughter I have a differerent kind of fun because it is more flexible. I am glad you are getting excited:)

As the argument goes "A rose is a rose by any other name" so is a disney trip is still a disney trip.

I think if you modify your expectations (by communicating with your other trip members on what is mandatory for you and them) and open yourself up to a different type of experience you are bound to enjoy yourself. Or at worst see the mouse and learn to never travel with these people again. Either way "YOU GET TO GO THERE".

I hope you will have a good trip.

When are you going in August?

Although we're still working out some details of where we will be stopping on the way and when, at this moment it stand that we will be there August 18-22. Onsite, either Pop Century or Fort Wilderness.

Being a patterned, scheduled traditionalist myself, I can empathize what you are going through.

Even though you can't set a full schedule - what about setting a "Goal list" for yourself.

Choose 3 things in each park and 3 things outside of the parks that you want to do. Make it a check list so as you complete each item, you can check it off. This way, you only have 15 things you HAVE to do for the entire week.

With such a small list, crowds won't really have an impact. You don't have to do them in any particular order, so if it's too hot, take a break.

To combat the feelings you are having about your Dad not being there - why not designate one of the things to be a tribute to him - like his favourite ride, snack, place, whatever.
