As some of you may know I created a Disney DVC planning spreadsheet in Spring 2001. Well, I finally got around to creating a strictly Windows based version which no longer requires Excel to run.
Now I would like to ask the help of a few members to beta test it. (basically review the program for any problems). It should run on any Windows 95 or higher machine. It is formatted for a screen width of 800 or greater so if you're still on a 14" monitor at 680 it may not work.
The program has a point and click color coded calendar to select vacation days. Points are automatically calculated. Options allow changing to any resort, room, and view choices possible.
A report can be created which can also be printed which shows your resort, room, view, and dates including check-in and check-out dates, and what the 11-month and 7-month booking windows are for this trip.
Other features include a completely built in point chart for all the current resorts for 2001 thru 2010. These charts can be displayed similar to the way they are printed in the DVC member guidebook. Charts for 2004 and higher were developed using the same pattern rules Disney has used for the last 9 years in determing the Easter and Thanksgiving seasons. (The point data file is saved as a Text file on your computer and therefore it could be modified in the future should Disney change their Seasons or point requirements. Also this would allow for download of any updated data files without having to download the entire installation program again.
A banking calculator is included which allows you to see all the banking deadlines for any of your DVC contracts based on use year and use month. Your information can be saved for recall the next time you run the program. (The calculator works through 2041).
A comparison chart which shows the point cost at each of the other resorts, rooms and views that are possible for your selected vacation dates. Pick a week in the calendar and instantly see how many points this would be from a Studio to a Grand Villa, for every resort, with every room combination in between.
The program is not fully completed (The associated help file is minimal at this time) and some save and recall vacation plans features are yet to be written. But all the main features are done.
If you would like to help in reviewing the program please let me know. I only ask that you spend some time with it and try all the features and give me honest feedback on any problems, issues, good things, bad things, or your ideas on enhancements or additions that could be made to the final version.
You will need to send me an E-mail if you are willing to participate. I will also need your e-mail return address in order to be able to send you the program. I will send it to you as an e-mail with basic instructions, and with the program as an attachment. The file will be a self-extracting zip file (to make it as small as possible) which will then extract to the setup file which you will use to install the program.
This program was written by myself for the use of DVC members and will be available as freeware.
Thank you for your help. If you have some good ideas let me know. Maybe I can get them into the program as a feature.
To send me an e-mail use click the e-mail link at the bottom of this post, or send me a PM. Be sure I have your return e-mail address. (BTW I will NOT share your address with anyone else)
Thanks,
Bill
