Going to WDW in August. Pretty well decided to do DDP with 2 adults & 2 teens I think it will be a good deal for us. We want to try BOMA, and had it penciled in for the night when we did AK. Now, with the heat of August will we last all day at AK? I had planned a CS for lunch there & then dinner at BOMA for convenience. We are staying at WL & now thinking it might be better to do this on our arrival day or maybe the evening after we go to Blizzard Beach. Any thoughts?

Keep your plan, AK usually closes at 5pm so it won't be too hard to last. It's also a very efficient trip for AK to AKL. Have a CS breakfast before leaving WL, snack in the park and arrive at Boma famished. Its an awesome buffet so you'll want your appetite there. :thumbsup2

I've been to Disney in August and I couldn't last all day at AK but that's me.

We've done breakfast in the park before official opening before. We also would grab a fastpass before lunch, eat, do the last ride then leave until after dinner. It doesn't cool down in August till 7 or so when the sun starts to set.

It's nearly impossible to last all day at AK. We can't do it in July, and August would be the same.

Two years ago, we had the earliest dinner possible at Boma. I think it was about 5:00? We just left the park at about 3:30 and then hung out at the AKL for a while until Boma opened.

The other option is to arrive at AK a bit after rope drop say in the late morning or early afternoon and then go to Boma later. This depends on what time AK closes for the day. In early August, it's open until 8:00.

I'd keep your plan. AK closes at 5pm most days (check operating calendar) so no problem w/ length of day. enjoy!

How about you plan not to last all day, plan to go to Blizzard Beach, at around 2, then go to Boma when water park closes at 5pm, then you are working with the weather!

I'm trying to figure out when to do Boma also. We can't seem to make it past 1:00 PM at AK, it always seems to be hotter than the other parks. I'm hoping if we put off the shows until after lunch we'd be in the ACand then leave early for the AKL we could wander around the resort until dinner.

OP said they plan to have a CS lunch at AK and her kids are teens. They should be fine. Going from AK to AKL was really quick and there isn't an easier "Disney commute" to get to AKL. After dinner you'll be ready for some fireworks or fun at another park. We chose Illuminations then MK EMH, a fun day.

Everyone has different tolerances for the park and the heat. For me, I can't arrive at the park open and stay much past 2pm. In october. Or december. I just run out of steam much earlier there than at the other parks.

If it were me, and I was going to boma at 5 or 6, I'd get there early, tour until
noonish, head back to the hotel for nap/swim/shower, go back to the AK for the last hour or two, and then go to boma from there.

Thanks for all your replies. After a few changes, I have decided we will do DHS that am & go back to our hotel for mid day break. Then we will go back to AK around 3 & stay for a couple of hours till our ADR @ 5:40 pm. I just keep reading how hot this park gets & was afraid we wouldn't make it.

Hey, Workinmom! I saw your location, so I just had to reply! :thumbsup2

Personally, I don't get why everyone says AK seems hotter than the other parks. I always feel the heat at Epcot worse than anywhere else!

We've been to WDW every Sept. for the past 2 or 3 years, and also in July a few years ago, and we've never had a problem lasting all day at AK; the park always seems to close at 5pm, so we're scrambling to get everything in before closing time! And if you're too hot, go on Kali and get wet! We also like to stop for an ice cream break or a cold drink over in Africa to cool off. Plus the shows in the A/C are good for a cool off break.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Boma and almost always head over to AKL after a day at AK. We like to sit in the lobby and enjoy the atmosphere while we wait for our ADR, and maybe have a cocktail from the lounge.

Just my .02 worth from one Galenian to another!
