Want to stay on site but rooms look meh?

Are these the ones next to CBR wayne? On disney property? I have looked at these and the rooms are gorgeous. Jacuzzi bath and all. Great value as well. Hope Matt will be joining you? Looking forward to his blog.

Yes, could be classed as onsite. and yes Matt will be with us on both trips again this year. He goes to Ghana in Africa at the end of March with University, he has been asked to be the official Blogger so should be interesting to follow along.

That sounds awesome for Matt! I'll definitely be reading.

It's just the two of us going out so a sofa bed pull out would just be used as a place to sit.

DVC looks like a good option, can anyone recommended a rental company? I think we need 190 points or thereabouts.

Also can anyone recommend an off site resort? Bonnet creek has no availability for my dates :(

We've rented twice with David's DVC Rentals and I can recommend him. I think the current rate is $14/ point.

18th November until 2nd December.

So far away you could be too early for some places. Quiet time of year I can't see anywhere selling out yet if they are not showing availability.

Renting points for DVC is possible but not great savings if using sites like David's at $14per point. For you dates in a Old Key West Studio needing 169 points it would cost $2,366 or £1,425 = £102/nt, good savings are only there if you can pick points up at around £7 ($11.60)

As much as we like OKW I couldn't pay that for a room when there are places offsite like this for half the price at £55/nt http://www.cariberoyale.com/photo-gallery/

18th November until 2nd December.

This is a very popular time for DVC members and it is not uncommon for zero availability (on points) months out because of low numbers of points needed, dates include Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations too.

If you do decide on DVC rental, I wouldn't leave it too long.

This Sept is our silver Wedding trip so I said to DW she could choose any hotel she wanted, back to AKL, OKW, GF, her answer, "I would rather have a nicer room offsite" So we are staying in a 2 bedroom, almost 1300sqft for not much more money that a basic room at a value resort (£68/nt) http://www.extraholidays.com/orlando-florida/wyndham-bonnet-creek-resort.aspx

Hi Wayne, am I looking in the right place? I followed the link you gave and I get £699 for 4 nights in a one-bedroom and £834 for 4 nights in a two-bedroom (using the site's own currency converter). So over £200 a night for a 2-bedroom!

I've heard before that this is a really nice place to stay and so I thought I'd price it up for 4 nights before I move into my OKW studio in November - but not at those prices ;)

There's lots of places to book Bonnet Creek at a far cheaper price. You should never have to pay over £90 a night for a 2 bedroom. I have stayed 5 times, 6th time this August. Always book with Ken and Denise at www.vacationupgrades.com. I really can't recommend highly enough. Feel free to ask anything you like.

Hi Moira
You don't say which dates so just did a search for a random 4 night stay in Nov, 3rd-7th

I used Bookings.com, they have those 4 nights at these prices:
1 bed £201
2 bed £226

Less 4% Quidco, makes a 2 bed £54/nt.:thumbsup2

We are now seriously looking into DVC for half the holiday and spending the rest on I-drive or in the sea world area as we were planning a few days away from the parks over thanksgiving anyway.

After a couple of weeks of brains twisting and number crunching, DW and I have come to a conclusion. We're going back onsite. It might be more expensive, it might be smaller, it might not look as good as what we could have for less, but that's irrelevant to us.

Sometimes it's not just about money or size. At least that's how it is for us.

We're going back onsite or we're not going back at all.

We know that there are bigger, nicer and cheaper accomodations, a stone's throw away from the parks, but as far as we're concerned, doing disney offsite just doesn't work.

I just wanted to share that point of view, because I think that onsite is part of the magic and is equally as important as going to the parks (we don't go to the parks that much, we love to stay in the disney bubble at the hotel)
And I think that it's important to voice that point of view and to say that, sometimes, it's not just about money. And I guess Disney pretty well understands that, and that's why they rip us off with their hotel rates. But, you know, we'll fall for it again, because that's our way of doing Disney, and we're happy with that.

sorry about those $.02

Yep...that's exactly how we feel as well. We have stayed off site twice and one of them was at DTD walking distance to the Market Place but we just didn't like it as much as staying on a Disney resort.

:thumbsup2

You clever man :goodvibes Should have known you would have it sussed! Thanks to Portugal1000 for the recommendation also.

I quite understand why others would choose to pay up and stay on site, but much as I love my DVC and spend most of my time on site, I share Wayne's sentiments of 'not at those prices .....' ;)

We've been DVC members so long now (18 years), that I can completely discount the buy-in cost, and consider my November studio costs me around £40 per night at OKW; only the dues to pay. Whatever makes you happy and you can afford ..... :thumbsup2

Fully appreciate your view, we all holiday in different ways and enjoy different things. Our holidays are away from Disney more than in Disney. Plus every evening eat offsite but we can go into Disney a couple of times a day some days so being just outside Dsiney is the perfect location for us. Our fave spot being LBV, this Sept will be interesting to see what we think about Bonnet Creek area.
We have really enjoyed our trips to OKW in recent years but the last stay I felt the dining plan experience was not as good, ripped off with tips on the overpriced food and was beginning to feel repetative, we were ready to go back to offsite dining. Plus the room rate doubled from £80/nt to £160/nt within 5 years. I can totally see why people want to be in the Disney bubble but thankfully we enjoy being out of it just as much.

Absolutely. When I bought DVC in 2010 my biggest worry was that we'd miss staying offsite and even more so, finding the "deal". I was totally wrong. Now I can't imagine going to FL and not staying onsite, in fact, I don't even want to stay offsite for any part of the holiday (unless it's out of Orlando or at Universal). We were planning on spending our first two nights offsite in October, but prices seem to have increased over the last few years and the gap between onsite/ offsite seems to have narrowed. When comparing offsite and onsite, I decided to book ASMu before our 2 weeks DVC stay, as it was only £50/ night. We don't spend all day in the parks (sometimes we miss days at a time) but we love the Disney resorts - both for accommodation and atmosphere. That's what works for us and of course everyone's different.

OP, I hope you have a fab holiday whether you decide to do onsite or offsite.
