Want to keep rental car for one extra day

What happens if I do this? Can I call Avis when I have my car and say "I want to keep my car one more day"?

I have tried rebooking and the price is so much higher than the reservation I have now. I really hate that if you try to add a day, they reprice your entire reservation. Seems quite unfair. I already have the car reserved at one rate, if I want to add a day I should just have to pay the higher rate for _that day_.

Your confirmation should tell what the additional charges are if you keep the car longer than 24 hours. While the rate for the second day may be higher than what you are paying for one day, it's probably less than starting over with a new 2-day reservation.

My agreement just says "additional charges". I guess I need to call Avis and talk to a live body and see what they say. I know people do this, keep the car longer than they are scheduled to. I'd like to hear first hand experience. This drop off location is only open until 4pm so I'm sure they get a lot of people missing that deadline and keeping the car an extra day.
