My first question is what if I bought 150 points at vero beach, do I have to stay there? Or would I be able to use points to stay at OKW (that is where I want but have found nothing in the point range I am looking for) If I am allowed to stay at OKW do they charge me the points that it would cost for vero beach? In other words is there any penalty.
What is the least amount of points needed to buy in 50,100,150?
My thinking is to start with only a small # and then add on. (It will be easier to talk hubby into it that way lol)
Any help or advice will be greatly asppreciated.

A minimum initial contract is 150 points.

If you buy at Vero, you can stay at any of the DVC resorts or the exchange opportunities. However, you can only book 7 months in advance at any other DVC resort, where you have an 11 month booking window at Vero Beach - hence the suggestion to always purchase where you plan to stay the most, some time periods are pretty busy, and accomodations may not always be available at the 7 month window. if you are always going to travel during off-peak times or can be flexible, then the booking window may not be an issue.

You pay the points needed for the resort you are going to stay at.

However, you pay your dues based on where you own the points at, not on where you use them at.

VB is not a good choice if you plan to spend most of your time at WDW.

VB has the highest dues.

I think you should buy at any WDW resort that has a good number point pachage available. You will at least be assured of a WDW vacation.

It may be a good idea to put your name in with a resale broker with instructions to call when they have a good sized package.

We have heard of Disney allowing resales of less than 150 points to non-members. We have also heard of them excercising their right of first refusal.

I think that you could probably get away with a VB package under the 150 limit, Disney is very anxious to free themselves of selling that dissapointing resort.

This board is famous for the mantra of "buy where you plan to stay most" and that is a sound piece of advice as the first reply to your post mentioned. We own at Hilton Head for several reasons including the fact that this resort is the one my hubby and I could agree on. He did not want to purchase "on site" and I wanted in at a DVC resort. After a visit to Hilton Head we were both sold. Hilton Head is within a reasonable driving distance for us and the magical beginnings offer for the off site properties was great at the time $13 per point buy back ($10 per point buy back now). Not to mention, Hilton Head is pretty hard to get into in the summer months so I wanted the 11 month window for that advantage. When I stay on site, it really doesn't matter which resort as long as one of them has availability. We love our home resort so much we are considering adding on and we just joined in December!

My point is, I would only purchase at a resort that I was willing to stay at most of the time. I know we will only visit on site every other year so Hilton Head makes sense for my family. I wish you well with your decision and hope to welcome you home soon!

We've never had a problem using our VB points anywhere in WDW. We've reserved studio, 1 bdr and 2 bdr units in July , August, Sept. and always got the week and room we wanted on the first try. Due to DH's job we would never be able to book plans 11 months in advance anyway so we took advantage of the better MB package they were offering at the time. We have booked as early as 7 months and as late as 6 weeks at OKW, BWV, VWL without problem. Of course if you have to vacation at a certain week every year and it's a popular time you might have some trouble but we haven't encountered any yet. Also VB is a beautiful resort...not dissappointing at all, and this is the only place we've had to change our desired ressie due to availability (8 months out no inn rooms available)! Next spring we hope to try HH.

Thnak you all so very much for your replys. We will be at OKW 3/10-3/15 and might if we have time stop to talk with a guide about buying through Disney. It seems like such a wonderful program. I really want to only start out with 100 points but I guess I will have to go to 150 points. Hopefully I wiull find a way to join.

I know what you mean about the 150 point buy in. That was a stickler for my family as well. I wish of course that we could have paid cash outright but that wasn't possible. If you are considering financing, I think Disney's program is flexible and pretty easy to qualify for. You can take a loan for up to 10 years and there is no prepayment penalty plus if you do decide to make Vero Beach or Hilton Head your home resort, don't forget the magical beginnings program can help tremendously with your downpayment.

If you have any other questions about off site property locations or any questions about the program, please don't hesitate to ask!

Disney will take anybody's money and finance it. If you falter on your payments I think they can sell your contracted points at a higher rate through resale.

I think it is foolish to buy VB if you want the points for WDW. Buy BCV, it looks fantastic, SAB, location, location, location.

Do it before the incentives go away.
