I currently have a Canon Power Shot S410, its not a bad camera, but I would like to get something with a better lens and zoom features. I am not camera savy, so I'm not really sure what to buy. I like the idea of something not really big, but something that will take nice pictures. I take a lot of pictures when we go on vacations. Any help would be appreciated.

What is your idea of not really big? Does it need to fit in your pocket, or would in a small backpack or purse be ok?

No, it doesn't need to fit in my pocket, something I could fit in my purse would be good.

Take a look at the canon S3 or S5 IS, the S5 is newer, not sure if you can even get the s3 now or not. Both of them have about a 12x zoom, in camera IS to help you eliminate camera shake from your pictures. They also have some manual control should you decide you want to learn more, as well as a good range of presets.

Also, look at the Fuji S8000fd, I have no experience with them but it is my understanding that they have a slightly larger sensor which will help with low light pictures, plus really high ISO availible for a bridge camera

If you don't need the zoom (and size) of the S3/S5, the G9 is also a highly respected P&S camera ... it's got a 6x zoom and some really great features....
