Ive looked at flights for august every day and thanks to Wayne have seen some I want to book (miami m&m) ....so whats stopping me...Im really worried about airline security after recent events, even though we did fly 3 months after 9/11, i feel uncomfortable and worrying that im playing russian roulette...Is it just me?

I intend booking mine this weekend when my dates are available on the booking system. There is always some risk involved with anything you book, flights or anything else. :goodvibes

Book your flights, dont be scared and let them put you off as thats what these people want ! Everything is a risk, bet you cross the road, drive on motorways etc.:)

Has security increased since the latest events?

I also wondered, but all I could come up with was the debate about whether some of the existing security measures are 'redundant' at this time :confused3

I know it means delays and longer procedures, but honestly, if the government assesses extra security in the best interests of public safety, I'm all for it.

had a good chat with hubby when he got in and we have booked!! thankyou for all the reasurance everyone :) :grouphug:

we flew 2 days after 9/11 and still fly!

dont worry enjoy your trip

hi we flew back from LAX on friday and the TSA said this was a test run to see if the systems worked? whether that wass the case or not, at LAX they were "holding areas" and only allowing a few up to security at a time (which is why we chatted to the TSA man for ages), extra officers "observing" the queue.

At LHR, immediately on getting off the plane they were holding passengers behind glass doors and staggering entry into immigration? never seen that happen before and we often fly through LHR.

TBH if it's about safety they can do whatever they like in my books..nothing to hide other than wobbly bits:rolleyes1....I wasn't chosen for the full on Xray although others were at LAX, process definitely took a long time.

Well done Giddy Kipper. :thumbsup2 I hope you got good prices! Nice to know you are sorted. Now you can get on with the fun part of the planning! :)

Hi folks

I work in the airfreight industry and can say hand on heart that you have nothing to worry about. The UK leads the world with air cargo security. We have had the strongest measures in place have done since just after Lockerbie.

As 90% of all air cargo moves on passenger aircraft (apart from small parcels via DHL/UPS/Fedex who use their own aircraft), all cargo is screened before it goes anywhere near the aircraft. There are various different ways of doing this, which I can't go into on-line, but trust me its a pain the **** when the customer is screaming at us to get their freight out and away, but one thing that is never shortcut. US customs also have to pre-authorise every piece of cargo with a destination to or via a US airport or port BEFORE it leaves origin.

The USA now has a "100% screening" of all air cargo that boards aircraft in from US airports and has further increased security following 9/11 and has actually copied the UK regulations.

If this weekend has highlighted anything it has shown that the security measures in place worked.

As someone has said before, don't let the muppets win and stop you, thats what they want.

Keep calm and carry on, thats what Britain does!!:cool2:

Interesting - we flew from LAX to LHR on Saturday and this wasnt in place. I didnt know anything about the latest scares at the time but did think the security measures were much different to normal apart from all 3 of us having extra checks done - 2 had hand luggage looked into (one had large camera in and so was looked at and swabbed and DD had her DS looked at and swabbed) and I was searched but I had baggy trousers on rolled up and have had the same problem before at airports when wearing them. Definitely nothing like you mentioned though

As someone who is booked to fly to LAX via Heathrow in December, the above is very reassuring!
