Want Digital Camera for DD7

I would like to buy a cheap-ish digital camera for my DD7. I would like to have high enough resolution that the pictures don't look horrible, but not spend so much money that I'll be really mad if it gets lost or broken. Oh, and a memory card of some type would be nice so we can buy an extra for trips.

Any ideas?

I can't really give you any advice on what to get but do not get the Disney cameras. The kids got 1 each for xmas from Santa. Not worth the plastic they were packaged in. And Santa even opted for the most expensive of the 3 cameras Disney makes.

I'm pretty sure there are some inexpensive Kodak ones out there. I really like my Kodak one and find that it is quite user friendly. I've had it for 2 years now and it takes beautiful pictures for only being 4.0 MP. I believe that their cheaper cameras don't have all the fancy options like "fireworks" and "museum" setting, etc. But should work to take nice photos.

There's a fisher price digital camera, that uses a sd memory card and has a flash. if they drop it, it wont break. I saw it at target in the toy asile the other day. I don't know if they pictures will come out that great though.

Look on ebay for an older cheap digital.

I kept my first digital for my DD7 - a Kodak 3200 - at the time we upgraded 2 years ago my DH wanted to sell it but I said save it. It's about twice the size of today's cameras and made of heavy duty plastic - perfect! lol She loves it and is starting to get pretty good at taking pics.
I'm now on my 3rd and will give her my older Sony CyberShot in another year or so.

Don't Get IT!!! I cannot believe how horrible the photos were. although there was a good program to enhance photos but indoor pic were awful. Never tried it outdoors, so that might be better but definetly not indoors, even with good lighting.

I wouldn't buy any of the kid's digital cameras - I have bought several for my son (he's 7 today!) and they were all pretty much junk. When I upgraded my Kodak Easy Share to a newer/bigger/better model I gave him my old one. He loves it, it takes great pics and works with my printer. Even the cheapest adult model is better than the most expensive kid's one.

What camera do you have now? I gave my DD my first digital camera. It was a 3.2 MP but took great shots. She loves it, it is small and I love my new one.........LOL!

We love the camera we have now. I think it's only 3.2 MP, but it's an SLR (that's the kind you can put different lenses on right?). It's medium sized and my hubby can do whatever adjusting stuff he does and I can point and shoot. One camera and we're both happy, can't beat that.

I'm not giving it up and I think it's a bit big for her anyway. Maybe if I got her a small one I could borrow it sometimes

I'm so glad to see this thread DS(7) is into scrapping, but so far he's only had disposable cameras. I got a bargain today in Boots - buy one get one free, £9.99, about 36 exposures with flash. But I am thinking of getting him a digital camera for his birthday in November and was wondering what to get. Maybe I should just get a new one for me (but I'm happy with mine )

DS8 really wants a camera something fierce. I'm a retired professional photographer and I wanted something for him that would last more than a few months, with a card & good resolution (yes, I'm a camera snob! ). So, after not having much luck looking on the web, I went to Ritz Camera and asked them for their advice.

The clerks opinion was to stay away from all of the "toy" cameras (even though they sell them!) because the photos are not meant to be printed due to bad quality and they don't last that long. The best quality & best price camera option was a Nikon Coolpix for $120 http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541530713.htm. I looked at it and it's a great little camera. I wanted one myself! The clerk also said that if we purchased the warranty program the camera would be either repaired or replaced due to damage from being dropped. True, but...

My final decision was to wait until DS is at least 10 years old and more responsible before he gets one. Until then, disposables or letting him use my camera will be the best bet. It's much safer in the long run and I'd rather spend the money that way.

I got this for my 3 yr old for Christmas and I love it. It takes decent pictures. If you dont hold the camera still, it does blurr easy but then again any camera does that. I can tell the difference when my 3 yr old takes a pic and my 9 yr old. The crispness of the picture.

The one reason I got his camera was durabilty since he is so young. It has been dropped a couple of times with no issues. We did loose the software that came with it. I called and FP sent it to me free.

With all the comments I have seen here I'm probably just going to get my DD an old "adult" camera. She may break it, but if she sees my pictures, which aren't even that great, and hers are alot worse she'll just want to use our camera anyway.

I guess I'll be browsing ebay.
