I have ressies for April 2nd-April 7th on points in a 2 bedroom lock-off in Saratoga and wanted to pay cash for the same room on April 8th. The cash reservation was made months ago, but when I called 60 days out(which I was told to do) to see if the cash lock-off was available, the answer was no, which means I am forced to change rooms. I was told it is rare to get a 2 bedroom lock-off on cash. Is this common?? Anyone else have the same experience??

It does happen because of the popularity of the studios and 1BR villas. SSR has no dedicated studios or 1BR villas, so the lock offs are the only way to have those and they do treat the cash reservtaions a little differently than those on points.

You may still be able to stay in the same room depending on the occupancy when you are there- just ask at check in and let them know how apprciative you'd be not to have to move.

Good luck!

We just made our reservations on monday for the first week in december. I wanted two 2-bdrm lock-offs with a combination of cash and points. I was told by MS that lock-offs can only be booked with all points. I could have booked a dedicated 2-bdrm with all cash or all points and not have to change rooms but the option of combining cash and points would make us move. I booked the lock-off with points and then a 1-bdrm and a studio separately with cash. The member discount of 25% off rack rate was available on those rooms. The discount was also available on the 2-bdrm dedicated.

A lockoff is a studio attached to a one bedroom creating a two bedroom. Basically connecting rooms (and the only kind of connecting rooms at DVC resorts). The studio will have its own outside door and kitchenette, and - except at OKW - will have a couch and queen bed instead of two queens. All two bedrooms at BWV are lockoffs.

A dedicated has the second bedroom as "just a bedroom." There is no door to the outside or kitchenette. It usually has two queen beds, but at BCVs some of the rooms were too small or something and they ended up with the hideabed and one queen situation.

Lockoffs are often preferred for people bringing a second set of adults - because they functionally have their own complete unit, can make their own coffee in the morning, and don't need to go traipsing through the living room upon return from Pleasure Island at 2am. Dedicateds are often preferred by parents, who want to know if their teens are trying to sneak out on the way TO Pleasure Island at 11pm.
