If you look under "videos" at www.olgakorbut.com you can see Olga's winning bars, floor and beam routines from the '72 Olympics.

The bars, being so close together, look like a totally different sport. I bet that the move where she stood up on the high bar and flipped backwards was banned later on.

As for the beam, I think today her routine would have a start value of about 7.5. Very graceful and very slow...about 4 or 5 total tumbling skills (including a cartwheel that the Level 5s do now and a back walk over that the Level 6s do).

The floor looks pretty current...she couldn't win with that today, but the tumbling passes look like what they do today.

I remember seeing that during the '72 Olympics. Wow! It still gave me the chills. She was so much fun to watch.

Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the link. I remember watching her routines as a teenager. If memory serves me correctly, the move was banned as being to dangerous. But, I could be mistaken.

Hard to believe it was over 30 years ago. I remember it well.

Thanks for the memories:D

I don't remember Olga (I guess I was too young), but I do remember the bars being closer together. I wish they were still that way. While maybe not as difficult technically, it sure made for a more interesting routine instead of what they do now.
