I LOVE all of these suggestions! I worked off-site today so I haven't been to the shelter to officially name any of the new little ones, but I will be there tomorrow. There is one name that was suggested that I just love for one sweetheart. I'll come back tomorrow and let y'all know who was named what. Unfortunately, the majority of animals that we got are not yet available for adoption and it will be several weeks until they are (mom and some teeny tiny baby pups) but I'll post some pictures of animals that are available and when the new years pups become available I'll make sure to post pictures with names (and I'll even try to get pics over the weeks so y'all can see how they've grown up!) thanks for all the suggestions and if you think of anymore, please feel free to post! Even if you have any unique names that don't fit the new years theme, post them! We are always getting new animals in and after having so many animals we are running out of original names! I like the space dog names one of the PPs listed!

Here's the names...Fortunately we have had a very busy past couple weeks, which means lots of animals being adopted and, therefore, there has been a lot of movement on the adoption floor with animals coming and going. With that, we have been unable to update our website with all the changing animals, so I only have a picture of one of the animals to post.

Anyways...
Mom and pups are
MMaXI (I love love love this name. I think it's so perfect for her and represents a start of a new life in 2001)
Champagne (though this puppy is a boy so eventually it will probably turn into Champ)
Chaos (he is, oddly enough, the calmest one of the group)
Eve
Midnight (Eve and Midnight look very much alike, but Eve is a girl and Midnight is a boy)

Boomer is a Rottweiler mix.

The cats are D.C., Rocket, and Midnight (another Midnight, I know, but that just fit him)

And this is Tipper. I was going to name her Tipsy but I didn't know that that would be entirely appropriate...

My pup will be proud he shares his middle name with another animal. He is actually a good dog, but not yet 2 years old, so he is full of pup.

Hope all those animals are adopted out quickly to good loving homes!!!!!!!!

Tipper is a beautiful cat, btw!

I don't mean to be a downer because I really like this thread but I am just curious...why did you have so many drop offs at this time of year? Is it Christmas present puppies gone wrong? Or just a coincidence?

(BTW, thanks for all that you do at the shelter!)

Simba928 DH & I foster for an animal rescue, kittens starting at about 6 weeks until they are adopted. Two weeks ago we adopted our 4th cat a 6 month old flame point Siamese named.................Rudolph!
We call him Rudy. Hope you can post pictures of the rest of your New Years rescues. I'd love to see them.

Isn't she!?!? And she's a sweetheart, too! Very nice and laid back.

We are the only shelter in the county we are in. This county is not very educated in animals and not as wealthy as some of the surrounding areas. This means a lot of unaltered animals (leading to MANY strays and lots of babies) and a lot of animals running loose. Over the holidays (anytime where people travel, Christmas, New Years, Labor Day, etc) a lot of people leave their animals outside instead of taking them to the kennel or hiring someone to come care for them and the police bring them in. The animals get claimed a few days later when the owner comes home and realizes that their dog did not just hang out in the yard all weekend like they thought they would. There are a lot of people that do not alter their cats and then let them ouside, leading to a lot of stray cats (and then this time of year people will decide that they can no longer take care of the strays that they have been feeding all summer and now they want to bring them in). The other thing on holidays where fireworks are common (mainly Fourth of July but we get a little bit for New YEars and the same thing goes when there is a big storm) is that dogs get scared and people don't think to keep the dog inside or, at the very least, on leash or somehow confined. When the dog gets freaked out from the noise of the fireworks or thunder, they run and hopefully eventually get picked up as strays.

We didn't get too many animals in on New Year's Eve, this time of year we try to limit the number of animals we have just because we are closed for so many days and it's easier to care for a fewer number of animals. The majority of the animals I named were already at the shelter but didn't yet have a name. I just thought that with the number of really great suggestions it was hard to narrow it down so much so I gave a lot of the strays that we didn't yet name something fitting the time of year. We love these animals and consider them our own until they get adopted (and even then we LOVE seeing them and getting updates) so we like to give them names and have something to call them rather than "that black cat in the cat room" or "the lab mix in kennel 20".

And hopefully this week we'll get our website up to date and I can post some more pictures. In the meantime, this is Mia. She is a 9 year old Lab/Shepherd mix and sooo sweet. She isn't one of my New Year's babies, but I thought I'd let her get some attention, too. She's been at the shelter for over a month and she deserves a little love!

Everybody got adopted so far except Rocket the cat and the group of mom and pups. The pups are still too young and we'll have them for another few weeks. All the dogs that were at the shelter on New Years, with the exception of one dog named Petey that we've had since August, have been adopted. Cats are a different story. The adults are super hard to adopt out so we still have quite a few that have been with us for awhile.

...how about Allie (like 'alley')...or Eva?

Guess I am too late but I was going to suggest "Rezzie"...short for Resolution. I like when there is an "e" sound / 2nd syllable for pet names.

Pluto : )

Actually, I did name a dog Pluto a couple weeks ago. He's a young black lab that has this crazy, goofy personality and the name just kind of fit him!

I like Allie, Eva, and Rezzie too! I'll have to keep those in mind.
