Walt's Warriors are HOT in August!

Hey Warriors...

Checking in from my room at the Sleep Inn & Suites in Ocala, FL. Got to leave work earlier than planned, so when I got here I went in search of the dreadmill, and I found it. Decided my long drive needed a 3 mile walk/wog. SO I got in three miles. Back to the room to shower and freshen up and on to the free wireless.

Jen: congrats on the swimming, sound like you are going to do just fine on you sprint tri!!!

Tracy

Tracy, have a great vaca!

Sara, glad that the toe surgery is over. I hope all is well. I had that done oh so long ago and basically all worked fine. Issues now with regrowth after the dreaded nail fall off. Will probably get that tended one of these days, darn thing keep getting knocked off during the last couple January events though. Congratulations on coaching the little ones to a successful 5k. That will be a rewarding experience I'm sure.

Jeff, too hot for me to want to be out in it. I'm glad that you are doing good getting out there!

Jen, good going for the tri. You will find all this XT will be improving your running I'm sure.

Carrie, would you say that? You've been getting in a lot of XT with your tri training. Have you noticed a difference with your running ability or is it too soon since you're still in tri training?

Michelle, that guy sounded scary. Glad everyone stuck together out there.

It has been quite hot/humid here and getting out in it has not been me. Today it poured and early day I was busy. I do believe we've got a cool down these next few days and I will truly be taking advantage of this.

Happy 50th birthday Hawaii! I hope you all enjoy your holiday day off like me. What's that, you don't get today off? Shucks.

8 1/4 miles in the heat.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hey Warriors-

Soooo sore from spinning. Went swimming today thinking it might help- yeah, not really. Scared of walking down stairs.;)

Forgot to tell everyone-- my 9 year old, Emma, has her first kids tri tomorrow!! I'm pretty sure she'll be DLF (not telling her of course), but she seems to be excited...

Jen in GA

Jen: I'm laughing in understanding sympathy at your fear of stairs, today. :lmao: And YAY! for Emma's first tri; even if she does DLF, it's awesome that she's even giving it a try!

Jeff: Your beach park pictures on Facebook literally make me a little bit nauseous.... but in a good way. We have beaches here in Seattle (and after growing up in the prairies, I consider myself lucky for that!), but nothing like that!

Lily: Glad to hear that you retained use of your toe, after your surgery. :rotfl: Enjoy your hot/humid/rainy break.... things will get back to crazy soon enough!

Tracy: Hope you're having a great vacation!

Carrie: Yay for Wii Fit crosstraining! I'll admit that I barely use mine anymore because of the amount of time you spend standing around pushing buttons instead of actually exercising. I've heard that EA Active is better for that, but haven't worked up the motivation to plunk down $60 for it, yet.

Michelle: That is seriously scary. Glad everything worked out alright, hun! I've had a couple close calls where I'm sure things would not have went as well if I hadn't been running with a German Shepherd (but then again, I wouldn't run late at night by myself without the Shepherd), and it always shakes you up for awhile after.

I'm still following doctor's orders and not doing any "heavy activity" (which includes running) this week, to make sure that my toenail heals without any scar tissue that could cause complications. Oh, fun. I did go to the little gym in my building yesterday and did 8.3 miles in 32 minutes on the recumbent bike. I looked crazy in one running shoe and one flip flop (with a big ol' toe bandage on) but it got done, and it's better than nothing. I'm hoping to do the time equivalent on the bike for the Saturday and Sunday runs I had scheduled this weekend, so at least I'm not taking the week completely off.

Happy Friday, Warriors!

Sarah i have a very funny image of you on that bike. Backing off your miles will be well worth it if you manage to avoid any complications! Also i have the sport active game by EA and find it more of a workout than wii fit, but more annoying :)

jen walking wasn't my issue post spinning.... sitting was :headache: well done on your first session and sending lots of good luck to emma- i think with a wonderful inspiring mum like you she'll be made up whatever happens.

Carrie happy birthday, wahoo! hope you have a lovely day

Squeezed in 4 miles including 4 sprints today- i was getting fidgity with all of my sister's wedding preps so got out of the house for 34mins! well worth it. Off for a meal in a bit!

Have a great weekend guys

Hey Warriors!

Finally over my spinning trauma, which is good since I go back tomorrow. This time I may not be quite so gungho!;)

Emma had a fabulous time at her kids triathlon! It was swim 75 yards, bike 1 mile, run 1/2 mile. She was shockingly good at the swim (I thought she might end up clinging to the ropes, but nope!), pretty aggressive on her bike, and finally worn out by the run. Harry (the crazy 3 year old) and I ran with her for the half mile. None of it was timed, and they let groups of 5 kids each complete their swim before the other kids got in- so it really was about completion and not winning, which I thought was great. She's proudly wearing her t-shirt today.

We went swimming yesterday- I forgot that Sunday afternoon is crazy! The lap lane was taken by a guy with a mask, snorkle, and fins (can you say jealous!?!), there were little kids everywhere, and there was a strange man treading water in the deep end the entire time. At least I was distracted. laughing:

Carrie- Happy Birthday! Want to hear all about your race!

Sarah Rose- totally think of you when I take Luke out. He's 4 months old, huge, and clueless. Loves to run about 2-3 miles each night. You were right- Emma's still scared of him, and he's a total mean dog magnet. (The chow that chased us down the street with about 20 feet of chain rattling behind him was my personal favorite. I kept thinking he'd get yanked back by the chain, but then saw it wasn't attached to anything! Talk about a speed interval!!;))

By the way, all the toe talk is scaring me. :rolleyes1

Got to at least move these files on my desk now.;)

HI Warriors!!

Just checking in! Took an unplanned trip to Disney with my mom for her birthday for 5 days! We stayed at Saratoga Springs. I actually used the fitness center there - which is really really nice!! Proud to say I can actually run for 25 minutes straight now - which is a slight improvement from 90 seconds straight when we started in May! Now I just have to figure out how to get faster.

I am really looking forward to to Tower of Terror race - we have decided to all do the 5K. My daughter was the only one who wouldn't do the 13k and she is only 11 and I didn't want her to do it by herself.

Sara - Your wedding pictures are beautiful!

It sounds like everyone has had a busy summer. School has started for us so we are getting back into a routine. A busy crazy routine, but a routine! Hope everyone has a wonderful fall. We had a great preview of fall weather this weekend.

Have a great week everybody!!!

Jennifer

PS

Tracy - Put me down for volunteering for the full and we will be at the wish meet also. We are running the 5k and if by some miracle the 1/2 opens back we will run it also.

I am about 8 shirts short of putting in an AlertShirt order. So, if anyone wants one, please let me knoo ASAP.

Ordering site is here.

Thanks!
Carrie

Jen - Huge congreat to Emma! That's awesome!!! WIll she swim for me in Chicago this weekend?

Lily - DOn't know about this year. I must say my trianing has not been great this year. However, last year I ahd a major PR 2 months after my last tri and did very well at SAT a month after that (would have PR'd if the one before had not been so great). I do think my body and mind enjoy teh change of pace and I know I don't lose anything.

Sarah - EA Active was on my b-day list. DIdn't gert it, though. I have heard it's better but doean not have yoga. :-(

Jennifer - Way to go on teh 25 minutes!!!! Ahh, teh memories of when I first started. We did intervals. 1 min was forever when it was run 1 min adn turned ot nothing when it was walk 1 min. 25 min rocks!!!

Kate - SO glad the wedding went well!

Tracy - Glad you're ahving a fun vacation!

Jeff - HAppy b-day to HI! WOw, I feel so special that I share HI's b-day. WHy did I never know that?

Thakns tons for teh b-day wishes. I had a great day!

Carrie- I ordered some shirts- I forgot that my mom stole my spare (and altered it- hello, who alters a borrowed shirt!?) so I'm happy to get some replacements.

You're going to be great at Chicago! I think I may live on the edge and take some swimming lessons eventually. I'm going to hand pick my instructor though because I'm becoming increasingly paranoid that the lifeguards are all laughing at me...:rolleyes1

Jennifer- you go, girl! I'm totally jealous of your trip and impressed you hit the gym! I always print out running paths for the hotels when I'm there and then just toss them. ;) Don't worry so much about speed yet- you'll get there as you keep doing the miles. And for what it's worth, the first 25 minutes are always the hardest in my opinion.:woohoo:

OK, back to work!

Jen in GA

Carrie thanks for the wedding wishes! It was a fantastic day- my photos are a bit all about me as my boyfriend took them! Very pleased that you had a wonderful birthday

Jennifer i love that you can just take a random trip to Disney- not at all the green eyed monster over here! Massive massive congratulations for your 25 min run, that's such an achievement

Jen emma did so well and what a brilliant set up for her first tri. Very pleased that she's proud of herself too! Ha ha for the sunday swimming- it was a good try anyway.

Popped out for a 3 mile run and it felt horrid, guess i'm just super tired after the wedding and then sunday celebrations for the in laws corporate connections.... that was interesting! The wedding was outside and amazingly the sun shone all day, someone (i think nana!) was watching over us. My sister looked absolutely stunning, as did her HUSBAND! he he he. The service was lovely and I was so proud of my dad's speech... he was awesome.

Anyway enough bout that! Jeff could i be really naive and ask about Hawaii's 50th birthday? I know the island's more than 50, so was that when it became part of USA? Oh it's a history lesson in the Disboards! :lmao:

Happy Monday Kids!!!

Its been a while since I've last posted, but I'm still clunking along.... :lmao::lmao:

My foot seems to have healed from the "door smashing" of last month. No real pain, & I hit the road with my Tri bike today for the first time since the same painful event.

I did a 20 miler on the bike followed by a 4 mile run today. The fall season is right around the corner, so it's time to get some serious mileage going.

ToT & RFTT is right around the corner. Hope to see a lot of green there!

Now all I have to do is find a Tri that I can fit into the schedule.

Morning Warriors!

I am done with training for the DL 1/2!!! My last LR of 12 miles was Sunday and it felt great! Can't wait for the race!

Speed drills on schedule for tonight, just hope it doesn't heat up too bad.

Also thinking of throwing in a tri this weekend. It's a little crazy of me to even be thinking about it, but it's the last one of the season that I'll be able to do! Hmmmm....

Kate - Gie yourself a break adn let your body revcover. That was one big weekenda nd it will take a bit to get teh energy back.

Jim - Glad you're back at it. I really hope to see you at ToT!!!!!

Michelle - I hear you on teh tri. I can have 1 more (after this weekend) but it's a bit of a logistic nightmare adn would require doign teh tri, driving 2 hours, quick shower and change adn head to a college football game. Next day is even more packed. Still, it's hard to give up. If you don't push too hard this wekeend, you shoudl be ok. I recover so much quicker from tri's than a half marathon.

Did my last pre-Chicago brick last night. Went ok. Swimming in teh big lake tonight. :scared1:Same lake as SUnday, just the opposite shore.

Hi Warriors~

It's been a while since I checked in, but I'm just plugging along training for the Goofy. A few half marathons thrown in here and there.

WTG everyone with your training and how you are progressing! Sorry I don't have time to respond to everyone, but I hope everyone is doing well!

Marcia - Glad you stopped in and glad training is going well!

I swam last night. Watch died on teh way down teh beach, so no idea how long or how far. Not even sure you could really call it swimming. Creative drowning? The waves were 3 to 5 feet. COuld not believe it when we got to the beach adn the red flags were flying and dh said, "Yeah, I thought they would be" and proceeded to get out adn walk down to the water. WTH? (Was he being extra sweet last week because he knew he was going ot try to kill me off this week? ;)) Would have been a blast if we weren't trying to swim for rea. not as bad as I thought, tthough. Still, we cut it very short. Not that that didn't feel liek a huge workout. Not the pre-race swim I wanted, though.

Hey there, Warriors!

Just a quick check in from me; it's amazing how busy you can find yourself, even with no job! I'm quickly building up my schedule of volunteer activities; I had my first Girls on the Run coach meet-up last night. I can't wait to start coaching next month!

Also, Week 1, Day 4 of Goofy training is in the bag. I had a short but very warm (for Seattle, of course!) 3 miler this morning. I had to put Jack on the prong collar for the first time in over 6 months today.... he's fallen in to the routine of lagging all the way out, and then wanting to sprint the entire way back, and that has to be broken quickly before it ruins my leash arm. I also went out for my first run with my new short-less Running Skirt.... it's a lot shorter than I'm used to and I don't know about not having the shorts as protection from gusts of wind. :lmao: But it was nice to not have to worry about tugging my shorts down every 2 minutes, so I guess it's a keeper for hot days.

Keep on plugging, Warriors!

Carrie you tri-angels astound me. It does sound like a massive logistical mission, but totally worthwhile! I think secretly you love that nice big lake :)

Sarah You are awesome doing so much voluntary work and I can't wait to here how your girls get on. I really can't imagine how rewarding it must be to inspire so many little ones! I don't know what a prong collar is, but it sounds scary!

So I've had 3 runs this week so far- Monday was a steady ish pre-race run that felt hard still. Then Wednesday we had a 5km race. The original intention was to see how fast we could run at that distance, but as neither of us had particularly followed our training plans we weren't particularly ready for it. It's a really small event- seemed around 100 people, with a lot of club runners so generally a very fast field. As last time, Nathan zoomed off with 8:00 pace.... and didn't slow! Was a huffy run until last 1/2mile when i managed a sprint finish as my running teacher was watching (:headache:) overall pace 7:38min/mile to finish in 23:41!

Then run lesson tonight of 5miles rolling big hills. We climbed 1000ft in total! Evil man :rotfl: resting now

It's nearly the weekend warriors

I don't know what a prong collar is, but it sounds scary!

Ok, quick reply about the prong collar. They're a big deal here in Seattle (Seattle is an incredibly dog friendly and dog progressive city) as a training tool, and so I assume that they're common knowledge! :goodvibes Basically, it's a collar made of angled metal prongs that point towards your dog's neck when it wears the collar. It sounds scary and looks scary, and can even be scary if you don't know how to put it on and use it properly, but is actually much more humane than a choke collar. When the collar is pulled tight, the prongs pinch the skin on the dog's neck; this simulates the bite a mother dog would give an unruly puppy, and normally calms the dog down right away. I've tested it on myself, and it's unpleasant, but not painful. For Jack, even just wearing the collar is a good reminder of how he's supposed to act. I put it on him before our run today and took him outside without the leash attached; he fell straight into a perfect heel next to me, even though the prong collar wasn't actually attached to anything! I didn't even need to "pinch" him once today on our run, but after a few outings with the collar, he'll be back on track. It's more of a reminder or a wake-up call than a punishment, much like a gentle snap from a mother dog would be.

And there's my dog training ramble for today! There's a lot of fear and uncertainty about prong collars out there, when really I find that most dogs don't mind them at all, but hate the Halti head collars or "Gentle Leader" harnesses.

And now I'm back on topic.
