WALT's WARRIORS 09 Intros and Activities!

Hi Warriors!

I'm Margie (Funwalker)
Just stopping by to say Hi and check on Carrie!

Hey Warriors,

Finally checking in here. I started walking/running a year ago after finally getting motivated to lose weight after having DD. I started with C25K, and worked my way up from there. I did both races at Minnie Marathon weekend last year and haven't stopped since, and am now 37 lbs lighter too!!. I did my first half in Nov 2008 (Space Coast), and did Disney 1/2 in January.

I have a pretty busy race schedule the next few weeks!

2/14-10K Suncoast Classic-St Petersburg (Benefits local Ronald McDonald)
2/28-Gasparilla Distance Classic Stroller 5K with DD-Tampa
3/1-Gasparilla Distance Classic 1/2 Marathon

I am going to take a bit of a break from long distance training after the 1/2, and focus on getting closer to my sub 30 5K goal. I hope to do the Disneyland 1/2 this year as well as the Space Coast 1/2 again, all of these trips will be assuming I have a job again!!

Amy

in the next few weeks I am doing:

The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer in Jax Beach (doing the 1/2) this Sunday.

ESPN 5K in a couple of weeks.

Playing Bike Medic @ the Princess 1/2

Gate River Run 15K March 14th.

I am going to start training for triathlons harder & kinda' work the distance races into that. I won't do another Marathon until the fall, but am hoping to (maybemaybemaybe) do a 1/2 IM in October.

Hi Team!

Just thought I'd stop by here to say hi and introduce myself a bit ... although, I guess I did that already on the February thread! :goodvibes

I just started running last year when my fiance and I made the last minute decision (when registration was at 98% no less) to run the WDW half marathon. I had never run before, but I had such a great time getting into shape that I started running some small local runs and became addicted. The half marathon was AWESOME in ways that I can't even describe and so my fiance and I decided to go back to WDW for the full marathon in 2010. I'm a bit intimidated by the extra 13.1 miles, but I know that it's going to be great! :hippie:

So far, the only races that I have planned are:
Rock and Roll Seattle - June 27th (two weeks before my wedding :scared1: )
WDW 2010 Marathon

But I know that some small local 5K's and 10K's will pop up in the meantime.

I'm really looking forward to running with Walt's Warriors for 2009, and really hope to meet some of you in WDW in January!

Sarah

Heh. I'd absolutely love to, but seeing as how Seattle is about as far away from Orlando as you can possibly get and still be in the same country.... lol. We have to limit our Disney trips to "special occasions". :lmao:

Hi Warriors!

Better late than never?! I too kinda fell off late last year, but would love to still be a part of the team - need to be accountable.

I'm 34, live in NY, married to Jeff (GrumpyinNY), we have a wonderful 6yr old DD. I work full-time as an exec assistant, and am hoping to win the lottery soon. :rotfl2:

I started the C25K program in late 1996. Signed us up for Disney's marathon weekend for '08 - and got hooked. I heard about WISH from DisneyRunning, lurked a bit before that marathon weekend, and after we got back, started posting. Similiar to Tracy, Minnie was my first official WISH event, did the race with Liz, Jen & Noah - and had a BLAST!

Upcoming races for me are: Princess 1/2, Toronto 1/2, SpaceCoast 1/2, and Mickey in 2010.

Hey guys- no races upcoming for me (I need to find some local ones!). But I'm hoping for the Expedition Everest this Sept. and the WDW Half in 2010!

Hi Warriors!

I am Erika, age 39, from Maine and have been a Warrior for a year now.

I started running exactly one year ago. In HS and college I was an athlete, though never ever ever a runner. I would do anything to avoid running! Throughout my 20s I was a fitness trainer and aerobics instructor. And even though I could teach 3 step classes back to back to back, I could never even run one mile.

Fast forward to my 30s when I had 3 kids in 3 years. Between constantly being pregnant and then having three very small kids at home, I stopped exercising completely and gained a lot of weight.

Finally, after getting back from a trip to Disney and seeing the pictures (below), I finally decided that enough was enough! Even though running had always been impossible for me, I decided to give it a try because with my crazy schedule (I work full time from home and have the kids), I knew that it would be really difficult for me to go to classes, etc. But I knew there were plenty of times when I had a half hour here or an hour there. And with running, all I needed was a pair of sneakers and I would be good to go.

And miracle of all miracles...it took! I started running in February of 2008 and six months later I did my first half marathon. And now I have my first tri in 3 weeks!

I can't express how helpful and amazing it has been to be part of Wish and the Warriors! As a brand new runner (and now a new triathlete), I have had tons of questions along the way. And at every turn, there was a kind and wonderful Wisher there to patiently answer all of my questions.

Here are my pics. The "before" is the one that sent me screaming to the Wish boards. The other one I like to think of as my "in progress" one as opposed to my "after." I still have 10-15 pounds to lose and some more toning that I would like to do.

Thanks, Warriors, for being such a HUGE part of my success.

~Erika
