The Studio Chapter welcomes animation historian Larry Loc as he hosts a presentation about Walt Disney’s “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” cartoons at The Studio Chapter's next meeting on Sunday, September 18th.

Before there was Mickey, there was Oswald. In the mid-Twenties, Walt Disney made a series of silent cartoons featuring the character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The character was one of Walt’s first successes, popular with movie audiences and the first Disney character to generate merchandise, but he was also was the cause of Walt’s harshest lessons in the ways of Hollywood. Walt’s bad luck with the “lucky rabbit” also served as a catalyst for the creation of his most famous character.

At The Studio Chapter’s September meeting, animation historian and ASIFA- Hollywood executive board member Larry Loc will discuss Walt’s Oswald cartoons and show us some rarely seen examples of cartoons from the series, as well as telling and showing us a little of what happened to Oswald after he and Walt parted company. In addition to Larry’s presentation, we’ll have refreshments and we’ll be holding a raffle for fabulous Disney prizes. If you’re a Disney fan who’s never had the chance to learn about a fascinating but seldom discussed episode of Disney history, or you’re an animation fan who would like to hear, see, and appreciate a little bit of early animation, this is a meeting that you don’t want to miss -- please join us for a fun and exciting afternoon!

The Studio Chapter meets at 1:00 p.m. in the community room of Westfield Shoppingtown Fashion Square, 13750 Riverside Drive, Sherman Oaks. Westfield Shoppingtown Fashion Square is located north of the 101 Freeway, off the Woodman Avenue exit; the community room is the small building at the back of the parking lot behind Ross Dress for Less at the southwest corner of Riverside Drive and Woodman Avenue. Non-members are welcome to attend. For more information or directions, please visit our website, http://nffc-la.org , or e-mail Paul Schnebelen at president@nffc-la.org .
