My sister in law, who hasn't been to DL since 1965 :scared1:, is going in September  While she is there, we decided to check out the Disney Soda fountain. Got to talking about Walt's grave and realized he is burried at Forest Lawn Glendale. We decided to check it out. Anyone done this? According to MapQuest, it's about 7 miles from downtown Hollywood/Soda Fountain. Turns out, there are a lot of stars burried there as well.

just wondering if anyone has done this, and are there any tips you can offer, like "don't bother the gates locked you can't get in anyway" or Done it tons of times have fun. :hippie:

thanks
jan

Gotta say, I'm a little creeped out by this.

I think they actually have tours of the stars graves. Forest Lawn is one of the buggies. From what I understand it's a very popular place to go.

OK, then I guess crzy4mk is not a potential client of this company

Forest Lawn is actually an AAA (hope you know what that means) GEM (Great Experience for Members)
(presumably while you are still among the living)

Hours are 8-6 daily (800)204-3131

You mean he's not really frozen somewhere, waiting to be brought back to life? LOL KIDDING!

I don't know, I think it would be kind of neat to go and pay respects at his grave. My Mom said she'd love to go on one of those tours, because she's a huge fan of a lot of the old Hollywood stars.

I agree, if I were heading that way I would absolutely head down there to pay my respects. I don't think there's anything creepy about this. You want to go and put good thoughts out into the universe for the person who has passed on.

You have never visited a grave before? Hey you want creepy, people get married at Forest Lawn cemetary, my niece graduated from High School at forest lawn. Many movie/tv stars get married at Forest lawn. A Disney fan wanting to visit the Walt's grave isn't creepy imo.

to each his own

As an aside, I'm not taking a tour, it's just a website I found that tells you where the grave sites are, but not the one mentioned above.

thanks

We went to the grave. It is at the Freedom Mosoleum. It is behind some bushes outside the man entrance to the building. It is just four plaques on a wall including Walt, Lilly, Sharon Disney Lund and Robert Brown. Directions can be found on the web. Search for Walt Disney's grave. It is worth the trip. Inside the building are other famous people. Hope this helps. AND it is not creepy.

I would love to go and pay my respects to Walt. I have often wondered how he would feel to see how his little mouse grew into a globally renowned company. Not to get too :offtopic: but, I am not creeped out, because I know that isn't Walt there. It's just the place I could pay my respects to him, and his spirit lives on somewhere else.....::yes::

I haven't visited Walt's grave, but I have visited numerous graves in Europe. It is kind of part of the sightseeing experience over there. Don't know why I never thought to do it here. Many cemetaries are actually quite beautiful.

I have never done this either, but it sounds like it could be a nice side trip. We are also doing the Soda Fountain thing in October, maybe we could do this too.

Have fun!!

I visited Walt for the first time w/ my family & friends last Dec. on the day he passed away. We left some flowers for him and a leftover fastpass my dad had (blue arrow). Our friend left his CM ticket (pink arrow). The flowers in the pic wasn't ours. Right nearby is a little statue of The Little Mermaid, one of Walt's fav stories.
After we took a little walk and asked an employee who else nearby was famous. He took us to a locked area, but let us go inside. It was Sammy Davis Jr. and his family!

Oh my...you just made me teary-eyed....I am definitely going now, and will leave a token for him...am I correct in assuming that Mary Poppins was very special to him as well?

Everything about that man just touches my heart. And yes, he loved Mary Poppins. "Feed the Birds" was his favorite song.

I never met the Dear man, never knew him... but I too believe his spirit lives on in the park. I think it's nice to pay respects to him in any way one sees fit, whether at the tribute statue, or at Mr. Disney's grave site. What a wonderful, caring person Mr. Walter Disney was. God Bless.

I think it is great Walt gets constant visitors at his resting spot from all over the world. Walt has given us all so much. Can you imagine a parallel universe where there was no Mickey Mouse, no Disneyland? It would be hell!

The last few pages of Neal Gabler's book about Disney discuss his passing. It says that he wanted a discreet grave, nothing showy and over the top. I think that statue is just beautiful. I do not see anything creepy in visiting his grave or any grave, as long as it is done with respect.

My friends and I used to go to Forest Lawn back when I was in High School. We used to put flowers on graves that looked long forgotten. Call us weird, but it just seemed like a nice thing to do.

my niece graduated from High School at forest lawn.
thanks

Add me to the list... I graduated from High School there too (long time ago)... Why the school chose that place I will never know...

The grounds are beautiful and the property is HUGE!!! Maybe one of these days I will have to drive over and visit Walt's grave.....
