Walt Disney World Parking Fee now $9 dollars

No I don't, What I'm suggesting is that because Disney inflates prices on everything and has margins it's forced to meet AND the fact that your average mall or even your above average mall can afford to not charge for parking, The Parking Fee is nothing but profit to maintain margin. Rather interesting given the anecdotal evidence that the lots have been empty. Which should reduce costs in trams drivers attendents....
What I'm suggesting is that even if Disney has an accounts sheet indicating how the $9 pays for the parking cost, it just exists so the addmissions tickets can show a higher profit margin.

There is nothing unusual about this, it's called "absorbtion rate". You take income streams from various entities, have those streams cover all fixed expenses and allows a targeted income source to be shown as profitable.

Sure it's a revenue stream but all themeparks charge for parking so why would Disney choose to be different? Being unique appears to be of little importance to them nowadays.

Being unique ? From day one Disney was unique. They were the first to charge for parking, everyone else played follow the leader.

Hi Planogirl,

This is pure speculation on my part, but something like "Spend $20 or more and get four hours free". That way, it will encourage shoppers and discourage those people who see it as a way to save $9 on theme park parking.

Way to complicated. Just go back to requiring resort ID's for the bus stops at DTD and SSR. Showing ID's was never a problem in the past.

Hi Aintdisablast,

Not sure how that is way too complicated. In fact, Disney uses it at their DTD in Anaheim. First three hours are free, anything beyond that costs money unless you spent money at DTD. Not complicated at all, IMO.

I'm not interested in encouraging people to spend money. My only interest is in keeping people off buses if they are not entitled to ride them. No resort ID, No bus ride, No problem.

I never said their was anything unusual about it. I just said that the parking fee wass not something that Disney HAS to do to keep running which some were trying to suggest.

Also, I don't think Disney was the first to charge for parking.

YoHo,

Unfortunately, after reading your takes in several threads, I am under the impression that no matter what Disney does these days you are against it.

Am I incorrect it that assumption?

Yes, Let me rephrase.

I have no faith that Disney will do things the Disney way anymore. So I'm a bit cynical. And when we're talking about something already accomplished, then I'm going to point out all it's flaws.

No resort ID, or no pass you mean.

Which means you still have a problem.

So what, exactly, was accomplished with this thread? It's not like parking was free and then they jumped to $9. Am I missing something (which is certainly possible).

Wait we're supposed to accomplish things with this stuff? Man the rumors board has been messed up for years.

If I were to distill the point down to a simple phrase, I'd call it critical thinking.

People are quick to accept things without thinking it out. Think about it in the context of what made Disney special.

I'd be more then willing to pay the fee if I saw some new construction to justify it. And no, one ride (E:E) doesn't cut it.
Okay, but what makes the parking fee more offensive to you than any other price increase at WDW?

Welcome to the rumors board, can I get you a rum runner? Snowglobe? Emu leg?

So what, exactly, was accomplished with this thread?
That Disney doesn't operate by normal rules. That's important to remember when talking about rumors. Parking fees have nothing to do with parking lots, guests weren't really asking for an end to Early Entry and more chances to meet characters, and that pool hopping has little to do with being fair to DVC owners.

So the next time someone starts a thread where some bus driver said the fifth gate is all going to be themed to Harry Potter...

Well, they were either being unique by being the first, or simply playing follow the leader by being 2nd,3rd or 4th.

I'll let you decide which is the lesser of two evils.

Or, they charged for parking, because they had to. a fact already discussed in this thread if you'd been paying attention.

No no no..... can't play that card. You've already stated that malls don't charge because they've built the cost into the merchandise, Disney could have done the same.

I'll give you some wiggle room when it comes to DL because of the GA ticket and the rent to somebody ( didn't bother to find the post ) , but that won't fly for day one parking at MK.
