We hear so much negative news about how much Disney is cutting jobs and so many of the problems they experience are due to cutbacks. Well, here's some good news. Walt Disney World is now hiring!

Disney is looking to fill 3,000 positions for the upcoming summer season. Considering that the last round of layoffs resulted in cutting 1400 jobs, this new hiring effort will result in an extra 1600 positions than pre-layoff levels.

What's encouraging is seeing this optimism for the upcoming summer season!

That is good news!

I hope they put about half those people on bathroom detail. I dunno about the men's rooms, but the ladies' could use more attention. ::yes::

Now, if they would only open up something in their IT department, I'd be one of the first ones to send them a resume!

Good news otherwise though. If I didn't need to make enough to put 2 kids through college, I'd LOVE to be a Disney bus driver. I love driving, and always thought that shuttling happy Disney vacationers around would be a really fun job. :) Of course, a monorail pilot position would be my first choice! :goodvibes

If only I were gutsy and care-free enough to leave everything behind.........

If it was a year from now i would soooo be getting a job there.

This is good news. But it bothers me how companies will lay off a bunch of employees just to turn around and hire a bunch. Do those 1400 that had their jobs cut during the last round get first dibs at these 3000 jobs?

that was one of the saddest days of my life.....i wanted to be rich and independant..........that didnt happen..........one day i realized that my dreams for the future had boiled down to being a resort bus driver and all the perks that come with it............cleaning up puke........the smell of the bus at 6pm in july...........having the chair lift not work properly........telling everyone where you are going when it is streaming very clearly across the outside of the bus...............listening to the "what took you so longs?".........aaahhhh the good life.

Better at WDW than in Miami.

Most likely, NO. Layoffs are a way for a big company to save on retirement pay, benefits, etc. If the individuals are re-hired, most likely they will be treated as new employees with no seniority. Better than not having a job, but not really the nicest thing to do to people trying to make a living.

I am not speaking from Disney experience, so I hope they are the exception to this type of behavior you typically see at large companies.

go for it Todd!! (other than family, i can't think of much left in detroit to be left behind......of course, selling a house might be another matter....)

What you may not be considering is the type of job that is being discussed. Many of the layoffs last year were middle management and many positions that are open now are entry level.

When you have close to 60,000 employees there will always be a shift in demand of the work staff. That's just the way big business works.

Possibly a response to the most recent government program called HIRE where you get huge tax incentives for hiring people if they havent worked 40 hours in the last 60 days

I told my husband I'd gladly work at WDW. Of course - I would be there and he would be in IL! That didn't go over so well! :lmao:

Good chance that these are Seasonal positions for the summer working in the Parks/resorts. Min. Wage, maybe a discount for f&B/Retail, and you get the ability to go in the park for free. Nothing new there.

Layoffs are also a way to get rid of people you don't like. The girl who is always tattling, the one who complains non-stop and rolls her eyes, the guy who knows his boss is an idiot and is happy to tell anyone who'll listen, the girl who is always sick because of the recirculated air and has to call off all the time.

The people who are a drain on the boss' time or nerves always go first. And who wants them back?

Of course where there are big layoffs, sometimes good people go. But the first to go are always the ones nobody wants back.

You also get to see the people that are happy spending time with their families. You get to see lots and lots of people that really believe that you are dropping them off at someplace very magical.

Most of these postions they are filling will be seasonal and temporary only with no benefits. The positions eliminated earlier were salaried jobs with benefits, that's where a company saves money, by cutting out jobs that are benefitted. You can't compare these hires to the ones that were cut.

:goodvibes Especially the little ones. They think the bus itself is magical!

I apologize, i seem to have trouble making myself understood on this board. i very seriously want to retire to this job..........i was just making the comparison of being young and dreaming of confetti being rained down on you in your "very own" parade and the realization later in life that the closest you came to that was dropping someone off "at" a parade.

Nope, the positions are seasonal, part time and full time.
