Walt Disney World College Program?

Spring 2000
Roomies with DisneyMommyMichelle
Worked Front Desk at the Caribbean Beach Resort and had to wear the "hands down" ugliest costume in the appt!

Had the time of my life and wouldn't change it for the world! Definitely recommend to anyone who is even considering. Not to mention....as soon as I got home I got a good job right away...who wouldn't want to hire someone with an Internship at WDW on their resume.

Miss Jenni welcome welcome welcome!

let me agree with her about the uniforms, anyone currently working there or on there way to work there, you got lucky with the change of costumes!

Oh and i agree about it being a resume booster! i was a concierge at 2 chicago hotels after that internship and it was a heck of a lot more money than the program, but a heck of a lot less fun :)

Michelle -
I was there Spring 99!!! I was in the hospitality program from January 1999 to July 1999. We started in 2309 (I think, but 2109 sounds good too!! I don't really remember!) then two of us moved to 909. I worked at the front desk of All Star Sports! Hi!

Christina

Michelle, I feel like a cheat...had to actually look up our appt number...sad huh. but I know it now 1504!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Well, I've been haunting the boards...no wonder you're so addicted. Too much to see :hyper:

As to the costumes...yuck. I'm going to be so jealous when we go for our "reunion" next xmas. I'm trying to figure out how to upload the pic I have of that thing so people can understand how rough it really was. I thought about uploading pics of all of us. Then I remembered how every pic I took of you was bad...hehe :rotfl2: and how much you hated them.

Love,
Jenni

Hi there Christina! i believe we had roommates at the all stars, just not sure which one...jenni help here...

Tiffany worked at an all star
and Scott worked at one...
oh and joanne worked at one

haha it's so great to have a roomie on the board!!! come on any other CPers out there??? come out come out wherever you are!!

Miss Jenni do not post anything with me in it! haha i repeat DO NOT!

Michelle....you goob,
Scottie worked at Boardwalk (i had to run over there to get a bottle warmer for one of my guests one time)

Tiff ... AllStars
Ol Lady J ...Allstars
Me...Caribbean Beach
Candi...Port Orleans
Julie...Dixie Landing
you...Beach Resort

guys appt:
Dan...AllStars
Manny...port Orleans (i think)
Can't remember the other guys...I wasn't as close to them as you were...shy me remember? I only really knew Scottie and Manny. Manny made fun of my "no tengo dinero" and Scottie of my Louisiana life :confused3

Come on michelle, you were so cute. I have this great one of you reclining outside the guys appt...remember? I even have one of miss candi doing a little dance besides scottie

Come on people...you gotta share your funniest memories on this thing. Although me and michelle could have you :rotfl2: with our antics its funnier to get everyone involved. Then those who are indecisive can see just how great the College Program really is and how many life-long friends you'll make!

Love,
Jenni

okay not too many antics, life was crazy then, we were young! haha..

Okay seriously though if you are on the fence about doing the program do it
do it do it!! my only regret is not staying and doing an AI!

ughh i had a lot of 'interesting' guest stories. Share your best ones guys!

One Guest while it was raining out asked me:

Ummm is there a way for you to turn off the rain cause we are going out to the parks now.......(he was serious)......

This guy thought WDW was in a bubble that were able to control the weather and all that craziness!!

my goodness, I can't remember everyone. One of our roomates, mandi worked at Port Orleans I think. Kari worked at All Star Movies...Sports had jodi,eric..maybe a joanna...can't remember and all my stuff is at my parents in MA.

Dan??? There was a spanish guy, Daniel, that worked at Movies is that the same one???

I made the mistake of dating a guy I worked with at Sports and didn't get as involved in the CP life as I wish I did. Great now b/c he still works for Disney so I get great discounts but I feel I missed out on some of the experience.

nah, our Dan was a tall lanky white kid. Sweetheart though.

I think the reason we remember our roomies names so well is because we all got along great and still for the most part keep in touch.

Lets see: memories?

Too many to count....I remember I had this one guest who had ants in his room..totally ruined his schedule cause he had to take a day off and clean all the clothes again. He called and I happened to be in the phone room that day. Wow was he mad, and who could blame him. Since he missed his character dinner I offered him a new one but i didn't fit in his schedule. So I sent him to dinner at the resort, and while they were gone, I snuck into their room and with candies and character cards and balloons for his kids. He called back that evening and said I made his vacation a dream come true and that the kindness I showed him well and made up for the ants! Made my day too.

Anyone remember this one?

What time is the 3:00 parade? (thank God I never got that question, I doubt I could keep a straight face) :scratchin

You guys keep referring to Tiffany from Spring 99', that isn't Tiffany Osbourne is it??

nope, it's tiffany Ruff but that was Spring 2000.

Miss Jenni Spring of 99, when i worked in the parks i actually got all kinds of dumb questions, but it did make for GREAT stories during lunch! it was like who got the dumbest question???!!

I used to work the bat cave in DAK and someone ACTUALLY asked me if the bat was SMOKING?!!?!?!??! Because they wore these orange bracelets that identified them...come on now!

hahaha, thats funny. Its really bad of us to make fun of guests when this whole site is dedicated to them...hopefully they never pop in on this thread...we might get some hate mail :duck:

I know i'm so bad!

okay anyone here come home from the college program lacking money? hhaha?? i came home so broke, i'm glad i went back to my parents house.

Anyone see that Thread about the attack in The Commons? like 4 guys attacked a girl there. i'll see if i can find the link to it.

I am absolutely loving this thread! :) You all sound so happy you did this experience. Our oldest son will be a freshman at a Ma. college in September. Does this internship have to be related to your major? I guess my question is, what is the sense in taking all this time away from your college if it is not related to what you are studying? Don't get me wrong, I would give anything in the world for him to experience something like this, it would have been a dream come true if I could have done it! Okay, also, how does it work as far as paying tuition at your homebase college, do you still pay it for that semester or do you just pay the cost of travel to Fl. and other expenses while in the internship? Did they give you a break on food in the parks? Thanks!

It can be, but it doesn't have to. There are different areas to work in. A good reason for doing the CP is that working at Disney looks good on a resume, and it's a BLAST!! You do have to be a full time/part time student at school, and have at least a 2.0 GPA (be in good standing with school). In the parks, you can get discounts on food at some places, but not all.

It's more about experience in the "real" world rather than how it relates to his major. Each college works differently. At mine, I paid tuition while I was gone, but also received credit. There are a ton of classes he can take through the program while he's there too. It's all about the living, earning and learning!!

Ok Ms Jillpie, heres the real deal.
At most major universities across the country, once a year Disney Recruiters will come to the school. They usually have fliers set up about a week or two sometimes even a month in advance. But all you have to do is go to the presentation and listen to what they say. And the recruiters are really good about hyping it up and its all true.
When I went, I went as a sophmore so I couldn't use the progam as my Internship so it counted as a Co-Op program. Which was only one credit and I was graded as a pass or fail. But since I only was technically registered for 1 credit that semester..all my loans and scholarships were deferred to the next semester and I only had to pay for that one credit.
The only money your son really needs to bring is money for the trip down there...food for the first few days...and I think (cant remember)we had to have a deposit for the apt (is that right? anybody?) but I think it was less than $60.
And lets not forget one of the best perks....Property Control. All cast members (even college programmers) get to go to Property control. We got up to 70% of all disney merchandise that had been returned or damaged in some way. Even if was something like a ripped seam half and inch long that anybody could fix...or one little chip in something. It was awesome. Disney is really smart...even though they don't pay you a lot, they know they still get what they do pay back...you spend it all over the place.
Not to mention....discounts. I wanna say you pretty much got 20% on everything everywhere, but don't hold me to it. :woohoo:

I'm interested also. My newphew is starting his second year at Cal Poly majoring in engineering. If he went to the college program would he be placed in a department involving his major?

I know he'd me interested in this :)

TIA!

Deb

you are not placed in a department involving your major it's pretty much
food service
merchandising
Hospitality
Attractions
Vacation Planning (ticket sellers)
greeters
Transportation

there is a wdwcp web site...

disney.go.com/disneycareers/disneycollegeprogram

wow the depsit i forgot all about that!
i got 15 credits when i went, that meant i had to pay tuition for those 15 credits. I got that both times i went. It goes under the internship category :) what fun!

I agree with Miss Jenni though, all the money i made i poured right back in!

don't forget the 50% room discount for when family and friends come to visit!!!
