Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary

Highly doubting the characters PP was suggesting. They are old and not well-known.

I almost wonder if corporate will allow WDW to actually half-build things and THEN announce them as additions for the 50th, instead of announcing expansions nearly a decade before opening. They really need to look at what's going on down the highway at Uni. We had verticals AND facades going for Kong before it was 'official' and opening in less than two years post-announcement.

I'm guessing we'll get *something* Star Wars if the board doesn't reject it again.

Yes, the 15th anniversary was one of the better ones. I believe they gave a car away every day. Everyone that went through the turnstiles won some type of prize. I won several free passes to River Country. That's the year they had large inflatable characters at the MK parade. It was themed to the different carnivals, Mardi Gras, etc. There was also a daytime show at Epcot that included boats pulling kites on the lagoon and also fireworks.

I just hope they do not bring back the Pepito-Bismol castle. I don't think I could stomach that again!
I remember in the early 90's Epcot had huge inflated characters for each country around World Showcase. Such as Pinocchio for Italy and Chip N Dale for China.

I hope they don't wait until the 60th to do something big. I don't want to have to wait until then for a big celebration. Although, I wouldn't mind if they wanted to do something big for the 60th as well. I hope they don't delay any Star Wars stuff at WDW for anything. Not saying they won't; that's just my hope. DHS really needs something ASAP, and the GMR redo, TSMM expansion, and moving Frozen Sing-along are just not enough.

I'm hoping for Epcot's 40th Anniversary in 2022, they might expand some areas of World Showcase. Maybe adding a new show for each country, such as an indoor show in the France Pavilion where the cats (Marie,Toulouse,Berlioz, and Duchess) from The Aristocats teaches guests about French music and art. And making a building where guests can meet the characters. They should also have re-theme the "Soarin" attraction to The Rescuers.

It would be cool, but I don't see it happening. That IP is just too old to imagine Disney starting something new with it. I would really like to see a celebration at Epcot for the 40th. I visited WDW for the first time in the first year or two that Epcot was open, so it holds a special place in my heart and is my favorite park.

Well just going off numbers usually a 50th anniversary is bigger than a 60th.

I think we can see you love the Disney cars. Unfortunately I don't think that will happen because the cats are just not as well known as other IP.

Does Marie count? She's been seen in every Disney store and even has alot of attention with meet and greets in the Magic Kingdom.

Yes, but how many people that know Marie know where she's from? They know she's a cat, and people like cats. Disney has done merchandising and character ops to fill that need. Also, this has literally nothing to do with the thread topic.

I agree, but why does it seem that the DLR 60th celebration is bigger than the 50th?

The 60th and the 50th were quite similar in terms of additions to Disneyland, but the 50th was still slightly bigger because it had a new ride included.

50th additions: New fireworks, new parade at DL, Pixar parade at DCA, big refurbishments at Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room and Space Mountain, and opening of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.
60th additions: New fireworks, new nighttime parade at DL, new World of Color at DCA, refurbishments of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Matterhorn, BTMRR and Condor Flats area.

I think we can expect something similar for WDW. Refurbishments for a couple of big rides, new fireworks, possibly new parade and if we are lucky, a new area (either Pixar or Star Wars) at DHS.

Am I the only one that feels as if some "Escape from Gringotts" style simulator attractions would be pretty awesome in Tomorrowland?

I'm not sure, but I've heard that the Iron Man Experience at Hong Kong Disneyland will be that type of attraction, though some others say it will be more similar to Star Tours. I assume Iron Man is part of the Marvel deal with Universal Orlando, so they could always re-theme that to something else. Unless Ironman Experience is just Star Tours with a different theme.

Iron man can't be used in WDW. It is said that iron man in HKDL will be similar to star tours.

for the 50th even if its not in mk I'd hope they'd have more star wars rides...I know they can't do any marvel ones due to universal having the rights to that in florida...but more star wars would be nice

maybe take a ride system like peter pans flight, re-theme the vehicles to look like the millenium falcon and make it a shooter like a really long version of the tunnel at the end of buzz.

perhaps combine the celebrations for mk and epcot into a really long one and add stuff for both...would be good if starwars land existed in dhs to help split the crowds a bit so you'd have mk/epcot with celebrations, avatar land in AK (maybe add onto it even tho its not even open yet), and star wars in DHS.

in epcot perhaps an expansion like "ancient world" or something...they have future/current already, can drop in greece, rome, egypt, mayans and gives a place for IPs like hercules, atlantis, etc. if indy gets kicked out of dhs then could drop indy here and make a people mover type ride through ruins of each guided by indy or something.

for mk (since they can't do marvel in florida) maybe something like enchanted tales with belle but have it be a walkthrough of "best of disney IPs" kinda like going from room to room via something like the mirror that becomes a door...could have the last room be something they could theme to whatever upcoming film they want to promote, maybe could also make it a randomized path through a "cube" of rooms or something...if the programming was clever enough could have some minimal wait times between groups entering.

it'll probably end up being just some new entertainment and refurbs which would be good as well.

Ok coming in with a ray of hope for the crazy cat lady. Your movie is not my movie but it was one of the first Disney animated movies on Netflix which definitely upped those characters with my kids.
