Walt Dated World

Maelstrom. It wasn’t the most exciting or modern ride I know but it had a certain charm to it that Frozen Ever After just doesn’t match. Nothing against Anna and Elsa and I get why Disney wanted more kid appeal at Epcot, but I miss the simple charm of Maelstrom.

  • The original Journey Into Imagination with the ImageWorks "playground" after the ride.
  • World of Motion and Horizons - WoM's replacement was significantly better, so people don't miss it as much, but I really enjoyed both.
  • If you Had Wings/Delta Dreamflight
  • Listen to the Land music/CM guide on ride - In this case, the ride still exists but I miss the live narration and the song was one of my favorite attraction songs.
The bold was absolutely my favorite attraction. Figment and Dreamfinder were the essence of Disney at its best for me. It managed to capture what the entire resort was supposed to be about and distilled it into a single attraction.

MGM studios the way it was instead of HS the way it is. I loved the whole concept of MGM, loved the backlot tour, loved GMR, loved the streets of New York, just loved the whole thing.

Agree with the original Figment, Horizons and World of Motion and Maelstrom. I'll add the Living Seas before it was Nemo and Listening with the Land instead of Living with it, when it had CM's on the boats.

The old Festival Center at Epcot and the meal pairings they used to have at F&W.

Anything at Epcot that didn't used to IP especially in WS.

Really really miss the great movie ride and the adventurers club. I literally cried the first time we went to DHS and TGMR was gone lol. It was my grandmas and aunts very favorite ride (they used to travel to Disney with us every year til they couldn’t anymore) and they’re both gone now and it was just sad.

I believe it was called Sounds Dangerous and was narrated by Drew Cary.

So, I figured out my bad memory is actually mixing 2 things together here. I believe later on in life I saw "Sounds Dangerous" at MGM, but the thing I'm thinking of with Murder, She Wrote was actually in Universal Studios. I only ever went to Universal once in my life and it was opening year, 1990, and we also visited Disney (including MGM) on that same trip, so I am mixing some stuff together. I was 7 at the time.

Great Movie Ride. The replacement is IMO terrible and has made me not want to visit HS anymore. It's sad because HS used to be my favorite park but the direction it's going in isn't for me. I also miss the Backlot Tour but I understand that the ride took up a lot of space that could've been used for something else. The ride was super cool to kid me though.

Not a ride but come on Disney, bring back the Innoventions Area Loop. This music was quintessential Epcot for me and many others.
I have yet to ride Runaway Railway but I'm not impressed from what I've seen. I wrote my Doctoral diss on cinema when I lived in Florida and would ride the Great Movie Ride for inspiration (it was on the musical). Really miss that ride.

Backlot tour with "catastrophe canyon" was also wicked cool.

I loved Snow White's Scary Adventure and couldn't figure out why they closed it when they opened Mine Train. Why not have both?

And, most of all, I miss Horizons. 😭

OK. As a film buff, I truly despised TGMR. I went on TGMR 3 times to make sure I wasn't in a bad mood or something the other times, but, no, it never hit my I-love-this spot. Not even close.

BTW, I adore MMRR . . . because it's adorable.

I mean, I enjoyed GMR, but honestly it needed some updates. I might have liked to see that, but I like what we got too. MMRR is really good!

The ride feels like you're riding through an empty warehouse. Yawn. It feels like a ride Universal would get criticized for if it had opened in one of their parks. It's not an abomination like Fast and Furious Supercharged but it's a horrible replacement for GMR.

I don't get too nostalgic about rides generally, but I do miss the "behind the scenes" vibe of the original MGM Studios.

TBH I miss 2 rides at Universal more than any Disney rides. The Jaws ride and The "Disaster!" ride that was originally Earthquake. LOVED the cheesy version with Christopher Walken, and it was replaced with the abomination known as Fast and Furious.

When I was 7 we rode the Jaws ride and since I was on the end, I nearly **** myself when that shark jumps out of the water.

For WDW, the ones that first came to mind were: Horizons, World of Motion, and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

I'm with you on those Universal rides, and would also add Kongfrontation to that list!

Reading @slo poll today made me think of rides that are no more at WDW. What ride/experience/attraction/whatever do you wish they would bring back? For me, I really miss Ellen's Energy Adventure and I wish they would bring back the partnership with American Express. What about you? What are you missing?
The good Dreamcatcher and Figment.
