I went to WalMart today, as a rule I do not go there. They are suppose to be the low price leader, whatever, blah, blah, blah. Well, I also needed milk, keep in mind at regular grocery stores in this area, milk is $2.50 - $2.80 , at WalMart it was $3.88. Why would they go so low on most things and then rip us off on milk? Needless to say, I didn't buy any.

Did you check the price on the "Great Value" brand of milk? That is the Wal Mart brand of milk. It is cheaper than other grocery stores. I believe their prices are higher as you say on other brands (ex. Pet, Borden). My problem with Wal Mart groceries is their lack of selection.

Milk at the grocery store for under $3 -- is this for real? I bought a gallon at Food Lion about 30 minutes ago for $3.39. Wal-Mart is $2.68 but not always convenient.

Our super Wal-mart's price on their brand of milk is 2.99 same as the grocery store when it is not on sale. On sale at the grocery store milk is $2. We usually buy our milk at Sam's for $2.26/ gallon all of the time (except when there is a milk crisis, then the price jumps--kind of like gas prices...).

We don't shop at Wal-Mart BECAUSE of their low prices. I'm tired of seeing companies go out of business because Wal-Mart cuts their prices too low and forces them out. Once they eat out the competition, they're free to raise prices as high as they want. I understand that free-enterprise dictates that they be able to operate that way, but I also understand that if I don't want to do most of my shopping at Wal-Mart in the future because there aren't any other stores, which I do not want to do, then I shouldn't shop there now.

I just got back from Meijers.

1/2 gallons of milk were on sale for $.50!!!!

We get free milk under the WIC program

Milk at Meijer...generally 1.87 - 2.19 gallon. Last week .79 for 1/2 gallon or look at Tobyfriend getting it for .50. Walmart milk is always higher than Meijer, but they carry Deans and American Fare. Deans runs about 3 something and American Fare is 2.29ish. I think American Fare tastes funny.

I like Wally World other than for groceries.

I agree about the Great Value brand of milk at Walmart. If I'm there, I always pick up a gallon, it's $2.13 compared to $2.89 at my grocery store.

Same thing with bread, their wheat brand is .97, that's pretty good.

I checked, there was no WalMart brand milk - none. There was a space for it, but empty. Why would they mark up the other brands so much, does anyone buy them? I'd much rather go to a grocery store for cheaper milk. A few weeks ago, I bought milk @ Costco for $2.49.

KERMIT, I agree with you, it's a very rare occassion for me to go to WalMart. My DH hates what companies like WalMart have done to all the small companies. Between that and EVERYTHING being "made in China" jobs are just dissappearing in this part of the country. I tried to buy my DD a pair of shoes "Made in USA" awhile back and guess what - THEY DON"T EXIST!!!!!! Oh well, save it for another thread.

Lord have mercy!!! Store brand milk is $3.49 a gal. here.

Its those pricey California Cows and their commercials.....

btw if you get the chance.. try to see a California Cow commercial
HYSTERICAL!

KristiKelly,

Did you go to the new Costco on Wendover? I haven't joined because I was hoping to get a free membership. Do you like it better than Sam's Club.

Your location is making me crave a salad from The Cutting Board.

Lori:p

Our milk is 3.09 or 3.19!:o I can't drink milk so I don't buy it.:p

I have you all beat....I pay $3.99 for a 1/2 gallon!! :earseek: I am really into organic foods and that is the cost for Horizons 2% milk. I also buy organic eggs and such. I balace it out by choosing "house" brands whenever I can. I am really trying to protect DD from all the hormones and antibiotics found in milk and eggs. On the other hand, we don't drink more than 1/2 gallon in a little less than a week and I can totally understand finding the lowest price when you are going thru a couple of gallons a week.

Store brand $2.79 and name brand is $3.89...haven't looked at Walmart....but their oreos and poptarts are always way cheaper...:D :D :D

I don't shop at WalMart either, but mostly because it's always a dump whenever I go in there. I would MUCH rather shop at Target.

As far as milk goes, it's normally about $3 a gallon here in the Portland area, but stores are ALWAYS putting it on sale for $1.80-$2 a gallon. I usually buy at Costco (like today) where it's 2 gallons for $3.49.

How exactly does one eat out the competition? I have this vision of the Wal-Mart smilie guy just going to town on a little mom and pop store a la Pacman:tongue:
