Walmart, Target or Phone Cards

Which of these would be the best "extra thanks" gift? Is there a Target or Walmart near where the CMs get to shop? Does the advent of Cell Phones make phone cards impractical?

What amount?

I know...I know...now is the time that I start asking all the "already asked" questions.

6 weeks and counting. :bounce:

We go to our local Sam's Club and purchase a pack (they sell them in 12 packs) of AT&T 60 minute phone cards. Total cost is about $25 for the 12 60's phone cards. They made great extras to put into the tip envelopes.

I wonder how much time they really get to be off the ship in Port Canaveral? If you think about it, one group disembarks in the morning and then the next group of people is boarding by noon. But, I do understand your question about the phone cards with cell phones. Couldn't they still use a phone card with their cell phone if their cell phone did not provide free long distance? I don't know. :confused3

IMO, the CMs would appreciate a Wal-Mart giftcard because we all shop there! You're right--there is very little turnover time between one cruise's guests and the next, but we all get a little time once in awhile to pick up necessities at Wal-Mart.
Some CMs have cell phones; some don't. There's a lot of demand for international phone cards among the crew. However, we have access to a lot of cheap cards that get more international minutes than the AT & T cards. So, my vote is for Wal-Mart gift cards!

A suggestion for West Coast cruisers: Target and Kmart are closer to the port (5-10 minutes away) so I'd probably get the cast members Target or Kmart gift cards rather than Walmart. They are building a Walmart in the area but I don't think it'll be open by the summer (it's still a big empty lot).

But isn't there a WalMart in one of the ports...I think it was Mazatlan? They would be able to use the WM GC there, I would think?
