Walmart Shoppers Beware

:grouphug:

I'm sorry that you had bad luck! They really should warn people when using debit about the issue, because as a pp said this could absolutely lead to a law suit.

Wal-mart has said they don't care about lawsuits. They have thousands of pending lawsuits at any given time. The amount of money they make in a day makes lawsuits look like the price of a Happy Meals.

I had an experience several years ago at there automotive center. They day before Thanksgiving they were to do my oil change and change windshield wipers. I gave them my phone number and said call if an issue. I get there as they were closing and they tell me there is a nail in my tire and they were gonna let me drive on it. I made them fix it and then they said "by the way we shattered your window." The manager refused to fix the window and said iI had to file an insurance claim. I was unable to drive the 5 hours to friends for the weekend since it's against state law to drive with shattered window. The insurance co tried to say it was my fault even though associate said it was his. They wouldn't pay for a rental either. They finally paid. So it doesn't surprise me they know there is an issue and do nothing.

I get this attitude from posters on this board, too. :rotfl: It's always, "I rarely shop at Walmart" or "I just ran in for one thing". I mean everyone wants to save money but no need to act like Wally has the plague when it gets so many to that goal.

The consensus seems to be that Walmart does not offer anything over another retailer for the most part, including lower prices. They paint their image that way, but for our family grocery trip, the overall price is the same from Walmart to Kroger, to Meijer, etc. And the other stores usually have more registers open than Walmart does.

FWIW, it's not that I am "too good" to shop at Walmart, I don't because of some of their behind the scenes business practices.

There was a world without Walmart, and Walmart took it over. That didn't happen by accident and it would take something really drastic to knock them off of their pedestal. I'm glad when a Target or a Sears tries to undercut Walmart, it benefits everybody in the long run.

And because retail in this country is so cyclical (everyone is looking for the next best thing) they will eventually go the way of the dinosaur, just like other mass merchants before them. As I said earlier, Woolworths and Kmart were in the same position, huge beyond compare during their respective era's. And due to poor business decisions, and a declining interest in customer service, they were knocked off the top also. I'm not saying Walmart will be bankrupt tomorrow, but 10-20 years down the road someone else will be king.

To the OP, thanks for sharing. I will pass the word to the people I know to be on the lookout when shopping there.

I'm not too good for Wal-Mart and shop there a lot. But then I've never had these issues that I keep reading about. If I did it might be different.

I love Wal~mart! I've had issues lately with Target which I love too:rotfl: With corporations this big, there's going to be issues and unsatisfied customers.

I haven't used Discover in a long time. So is everyone who is having this issue using Discover (or their debit card)?

I think it's a matter of people not paying close enough attention. The "no" button is right below the "$20" button on the screen. Some people will just poke the pen and not realize they just hit "$20" instead of "no".

At CVS, it can be confusing because of the sequence on their credit/debit screen. For example, one time, I thought it was asking if the amount was okay and I hit "yes/si" when it was actually asking if I wanted cash back. The cashier fixed it, though, and I didn't have to take the cash back.
