I just got this, so they will no longer be price matching drug stores:guilty:. I wonder if we can still price match at the register? Guess we'll see.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for using Savings Catcher. We wanted to share with you an update on some changes to the program. Beginning February 14, 2015, we are removing some departments consisting mostly of items that do not have a like for like match at other retailers, such as produce and bakery items. Additionally, we are limiting our comparisons to offers of other mass market retailers, grocery and dollar stores, removing comparisons with drug stores.

Thanks again for using Savings Catcher and shopping with us. We are dedicated to providing customers like you with Everyday Low Prices. It's a mission we're proud of and we'll continue to work hard to deliver for you.

bolded is the part that got me - produce? really? I'm a bit confused most grocery stores that I know of stock bananas, grapes, oranges, apples etc that is not a department that doesn't have a "like match" at Wal-Mart.

I betcha it's because Aldi always has their produce so cheap! I"ll be sad to see that go. I don't have an aldi close to me and almost weekly I'll price match their produce to Aldi's ad. I just hope they will still do it at the register just not with the savings catcher app.

I've gotten some pharmacy matches. I'm not sure why they made that change. I haven't matched any produce. I'm up to $400 in savings but once they stop doubling I will flee Walmart for Kroger. Plus I've had a handful of items that have matched sales at grocery stores which they didn't match and when you send them an email they basically tell you you're wrong.

But are the Bananas, Grapes, etc the same "brand" at Walmart as at other grocery? Are the Bananas Dole or Walmart exclusive brand?

They are not a Wal-Mart brand (as I recall) - generally Wal-Mart will price match any ad for the actual fruit. If pineapples are $1.09 at Aldis (or green seedless grapes or whatever) you can price match that at the register (or the savings catcher will catch it). One week the Savings Catcher program did not match the banana price at Aldis and I e-mailed in - they e-mailed me a separate egift card.

The savings catcher must be paying out too much and they need to trim that amount. I will continue to price match ads as the cashiers at my Wal-Mart don't really give a rat's (tail). But when you won't pay them hardly anything, why would they argue with a customer?

Yeah...I'm wondering about the produce. I just got $4.00 back today from a receipt from last week and most of that was the Halos I bought.

I got the notice as well. I assumed they realized they were paying out too much, and this eliminates a large chunk of items they were losing to other stores on.

They started matching Aldi's and that's probably why produce isn't included anymore. They have it so cheap!

I had a receipt from Saturday, 2/14, the day this was to take effect and received my cash back today and they did match strawberry prices at Aldi. Walmart was $2.48 and Aldi was $1.69 so I got $.79 back for each one purchased. I was surprised to see this because I thought it meant all produce. Maybe not??

Oh, I'm also editing this to add that I checked closer and I got a credit for chocolate chips. They were $2.58 at Walmart and $2.00 at RiteAid. Maybe this didn't actually start until 2/15??

This pretty much eliminates all of my savings, since I don't buy any convenience foods and the only processed foods I buy are things like gallons of milk and yogurt. The vast, vast majority of my savings has come from produce :(

I submitted a $200+ receipt. Got 3 CENTS back. Not a good change for shoppers.

I always price match at the register too. There is one store in my area that is horrible to go to because they question every price. They say that they will only match certain stores because it's up to the manager's discretion. The cashiers hum and grumble constantly. I think that they do this trying to embarrass you for price matching. Needless to say, I avoid that store like the plague.

I used the Price Catcher last week because the cashier missed a few price changes on some of the items I bought multiples of. One of which was cantaloupes. The Price Catcher gave me the Aldi price.

The email said that they matched to 31 stores. Can anyone tell me how I can find the list of the stores that they matched to?

Edited to add...

The Price Match Policy from the WalMart website. Produce is still listed.

We gladly match the price in the following types of ads:*
  • Buy one, get one free ads with a specified price
    • Example: Buy one for $2.49, get one free (BOGO)
  • Competitors' ads that feature a specific item for a specified price
  • Preferred shopping card prices for specific items that are in a printed ad
  • For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)
  • Internet Pricing. See the Online Price Match Policy to find out what is honored in Walmart Stores
*The following are guidelines and limitations:
  • We will match any local competitor's advertised price.
  • We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad.
  • Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.). No substitutions
  • In all situations Walmart reserves the right to limit BOGO quantities to one per customer or household
We do not match the price in the following types of competitor ads:
  • Items that require a separate purchase to get the ad price
    • example: "Buy [item A] to get [item B] for $C"
  • Items with no actual price that require a purchase to get free product
    • example: "Buy both [items A & B] to get [item C] for free"
  • Items that require a purchase to get a competitors' gift card
    • example: "Buy [item A] to get a $B gift card
  • Buy one, get one free (BOGO) ads with no actual price given
  • Going out of business or closeout prices
  • Percentage off
    • example: "All mascara, 40% off"
  • Competitors' private label price promotions
  • A specific price that omits a specific characteristic of an item (Example: $9.50 on "all sizes or quantities" of an assortment)
We do not honor:
  • Ads when the actual price for items cannot be determined
  • Competitor pricing on One Hour Guarantee Items
  • Misprinted ad prices of other retailers
  • "Going out of business" sales or "closeout" prices

OR Walmart just had the better prices. More often than not, I get ZERO back.
I think it depends a lot on where you live. In Central VA, we have a lot of grocery stores so competition is tough. In 7 months I've saved $225x2 (doubled with bluebird) on $1,680 of groceries. If you've got less competition, the sales aren't as good and your savings will be much smaller.

I recently started using Savings Catcher and at that time had 7 stores in my area that they price Matched against. Now there are only 5. It's hard to find a lower price. I've only saved $3 times. Twice was on cereal.
