Walmart has clarified their coupon policy...

I must be lucky with the Wal-mart that I shop at because I've never had them turn down a coupon. I mostly use the Sunday paper ones but I also use some from the couponmom site from Redplum etc.. Of course I tend not to use alot of my coupons that are under a dollar at Wal-mart since they don't double. I save those for Giant Eagle, Meijer or Kroger since they double coupons on a regular basis.

How do you know what a manufacturer's intention is? If there is no size restriction on a coupon, then I most certainly can use a coupon on travel size products. Sorry, but If you were my cashier and denied me use of that coupon, I would be speaking to a manager.

Well, in my experience with coupons, almost every one says "not for use for travel or trial sizes". that's what that cashier is talking about.

And I don't have a problem with denying a coupon if there is a size restriction and the product doesn't meet it, like I said. But the pp didn't state that.

Walmart won't need to show anything -- the signs (which appear to be company-issued -- not made with MS-Word) were conspicously posted at every register.

I work for Walmart and have been over this with about a million people.

we will honor ANY coupon regardless of where it came from,
as long as it isnt over $20.(I haven't seen many for that much anyway)

My store will match any other stores price without needing the ad. Distance to the other store isn't an issue anymore.

The only thing walmart will NOT do, it price match another walmart or walmart. com price.

You're wrong there. I mean, you're right about the policy but that doesn't help when you have employees who cannot interpret the policy.

I recently had a major issue at WalMart where the cashier's supervisor refused to let me use coupons. She practically accused me of trying to "get something for free" and "ripping off the store". The coupons were legit (from the Sunday paper) and I had the exact items on the coupon. She still didn't allow me to use them. Her supervisor came over and he sided with her. I ended up not taking the items.

When I got home, I went to the Wal Mart site and printed out their coupon policy. Guess what?? I was right and should have been permitted to use my coupons.

I wrote a letter of complaint to Wal Mart's corporate office. Thankfully, they took it seriously and the regional and district manager's called me to apologize and tell me the person at the store was wrong. They sent me a gift card to entice me back to their stores.

I hope that sign tha was posted wasn't one that the manager decided to RE-interpret for that particular store. I've gone into many WM where they seem to make up their own policies. Even when you bring in a copy of the corporate office policy, they won't honor it. I've had employees say I could have photoshopped in different policies.

I have had the cashiers deny using a coupon that had "Target" on them. They said I had to go buy it at Target to use it, even though their sign says they will take competitor coupons:confused3

I never said I would deny it, just that it was annoying! When you try to use a coupon on a travel size, the computer rejects it... I have to look and see that the coupon is ACTUALLY valid (most do restrict sizes, but charmin hasn't) and I have to manually override every coupon.
For example, and this actually happened one night...
A customer came to the self-scan (which I was manning alone) and had 20 of these travel size rolls and 20 coupons. You are only allowed to use the same type of coupon 4 times in the same transaction (this is actually stated on the coupon), that means 5 different transactions.. during which, I had to stand by her side taking up quite a large chunk of my time to help approve her coupons. Meanwhile, another customer came up just wishing to purchase a case of beer. I couldn't leave the first customer until she was finished and her order took about 15 mins.... and this other customer had to wait while she hogged my time. When I finally finished with her, I ran over to the other customer and apologized for keeping him waiting... at least he was cool about it, many are not! Besides get this.... the customer was trying to play the system by getting the trial size, since it wasn't stated they couldn't... but she actually cheated herself! The trial size rolls are not very big, I would say they might be 1/4 the normal size roll.... so in the end she got what amounted to app. 5 rolls of toilet paper... the trial sizes are .99 each.... the coupon saved .25, and doubled. Making each roll .49!!! Multiply that by 20... $9.80.... before tax! I don't know what the sales were at the time, but looking at this weeks ad... you can purchase a 12 pack of Angel Soft for $5.49 or a 12 pack of Cottonelle for $5.99.... I know its not Charmin but I am positive you can get more than 5 rolls for less than $9.80!

So if you were my customer... I would be polite, I would smile, and I would take your coupon.... however, if you are trying to play the system I will get annoyed... and that is all I meant!

That has a lot to do with policy changes....and a lack of communication. When I first started we were told we couldn't accept coupons that had the logos of other stores on them... I have worked there 5 years now and was just told a month or so ago that we can accept them, as long as they are valid. Of course, as I stated before, I don't work at Walmart, just a similar type store with a smaller base area.

I am sensitive to how couponers are treated because I am one. I have had many a coupon rejected for no apparent reason other than the cashier doesn't seem to want to take the time to read. Just recently, a cashier rejected some Mars candy coupons I had. The coupons were $1 off 2 any Mars Easter candy purchase. I was using the coupons on Snickers singles which were on sale. The cashier told me he couldn't take the coupons because they were intended for the big bags of Easter candy. I told him he was wrong and he just had to read the coupon. Not only did it say "any Mars Easter candy", in the fine print it listed all the candy that was included, including the singles. When I pointed that out to him, he just glanced at the coupon, again he didn't read it, and just pushed the coupons through.

That has happened to me many times. And I'm not trying to scam anyone or play the system. But sometimes the store employees sure make me feel like I am. Anyway, that's just my perspective.
