Walmart has clarified their coupon policy...

I was at Walmart, last night and saw new signage posted at every register.

The long and short of it is that all WM cashiers will gladly accept any internet-generated coupon which is less than $20.

The only obvious exception is that WM will not accept any internet-generated coupons for "free" merchandise.

Also, WM will not accept any coupons that double/triple the amount-off.

Interestingly enough, they will accept coupons from local competitors (Target, grocery stores).

I have read that many people, here had issues in the past with coupon redemption at WM -- hopefully, this is now a thing of the past...

I'll have to check out my local Wal-Mart when I stop to get the newspaper this Sunday. They don't really have any local competitors - nearest K-Mart is 75 miles away, nearest Target is 85. It would be nice if they took Walgreen's coupons since I never go there - the store layout confuses me!

My local grocery store also won't accept printed coupons over $20 and only one "free" item per transaction. Which is OK with me since I am way too lazy to print from multiple computers to get around the restrictions.

Thanks for posting this.....now hopefully they'll show their employees this ! The people who work in our Wal-Mart shoot daggers everytime they see a coupon....like you're stealing money out of their paychecks. I've gotten to where I won't do our major food shop there anymore. Who needs the humiliation and hassle ? Especially when the Kroger has fantastic sales. It'll be interesting to see if attitudes change ...

My supermarket manager told me it is because they want to limit their exposure if people in the area are circulating fraudulent coupons is the reason they will only take one per transaction and none over $20. I guess the internet printables are pretty open to fraud. I have access to about 20 personal computers when you count the ones around my office. So if someone has a free coupon, I could print one or two per computer depending on the limit of the offer. If the store is found to be accepting fraudulent coupons they can't get reimbursed and most of the free coupons say "one per customer".

They gave me a hard time with the Oreo coupons last year. They would not take it. I left and went to Target.

They don't accept the "free" with no other purchase required coupons because of coupon fraud. There really isn't a way for them to make sure those coupons are legitimate and people could make fake "Try me Free" coupons for anything. It is much easier to detect coupon fraud if they don't allow printable "Try me Free" coupons.

Basically, a few people ruined it for everyone.

Walmart won't need to show anything -- the signs (which appear to be company-issued -- not made with MS-Word) were conspicously posted at every register.

Maybe they will have the signs in my area soon, but I can not imagine that "all WM cashiers will gladly accept any internet-generated coupon which is less than $20". I refuse to use coupons at Walmart because you need a signed letter from God to get them to take the silly thing. You hand the cashier the coupons and they grill you on where you got it. Then they call for a manager who goes though the same routine. (all before even scanning the coupon). Then when they figure out you are not going away, they sigh and say "Well I will TRY and scan it. If it doesn't beep, I GUESS we can honor it". Writing to corp got me the reply of "Store Managers set their own policy".

So now is this coupon policy supposed to across the board?

Their policy also states that any overage from a coupon is either cash back or applied to other items in the order! Yay!

They don't take them even if they are from the manufacturer and not computer generated. They may if you purchase one also. Don't know if that is every store but that has happened in the two stores close to me.

You're wrong there. I mean, you're right about the policy but that doesn't help when you have employees who cannot interpret the policy.

I recently had a major issue at WalMart where the cashier's supervisor refused to let me use coupons. She practically accused me of trying to "get something for free" and "ripping off the store". The coupons were legit (from the Sunday paper) and I had the exact items on the coupon. She still didn't allow me to use them. Her supervisor came over and he sided with her. I ended up not taking the items.

When I got home, I went to the Wal Mart site and printed out their coupon policy. Guess what?? I was right and should have been permitted to use my coupons.

I wrote a letter of complaint to Wal Mart's corporate office. Thankfully, they took it seriously and the regional and district manager's called me to apologize and tell me the person at the store was wrong. They sent me a gift card to entice me back to their stores.

But I don't think that those coupons are printables. I sign up for a lot of the "try me free" offers and they always mail me the coupon.

So I can price match a store that is 80 miles away? Even though I get the Target ad in the Sunday paper, they are 80 miles away. Same for Kmart and Home Depot.

I work at a store similiar to Walmart, but has a much smaller base area. We accept any coupon that isn't listed as fraudulant. We do have discretion if a coupon looks suspicious... such as $5 off a tube of toothpaste... when it costs $4.99... now we won't take a coupon for a free Xbox 360... that is just rediculus!

As a shopper, I love coupons... you can save a lot of money!

As a cashier, they are the bane of my existence!!! If used properly, there is no problem... but so many people try to scam the system and they make life hard on those of us trying to do our job!

If the coupon says buy Charmin, it won't work for Northern... if you have to buy 2 jars of Prego to save $1, then you need to purchase 2 jars of Prego!

But what I really can't stand, is when someone comes up with 20 travel size rolls of charmin along with 20 coupons for .25 each that double! First off, the manufactures never mean for coupons to be used on travel sizes.... secondly, there is a limit to how much you can use in a visit!

How do you know what a manufacturer's intention is? If there is no size restriction on a coupon, then I most certainly can use a coupon on travel size products. Sorry, but If you were my cashier and denied me use of that coupon, I would be speaking to a manager.
