I am in the process of prepping my DD's room for re-painting. We put up a Peter Rabbit border 7 years ago, and now I am trying to remove it. Any good suggestions besides a sledge hammer would be appreciated. I have been trying to get it wet and then using a paint scraper. It works, but in snail pace. I am afraid this may be my best option.

Any place that you can buy wallpaper usually sells a liquid wallpaper remover. The one I used: I diluted it with warm water and used in a spray bottle. I just sprayed it on and removed it with a scraper. REAL easy! And I don't believe it was toxic.

1st score it with a TIGER TOOL

then put this white pasty glue like stuff on (Wall paper remover)

wait and peel

or rent a steamer

There is a liquid gel (blue) that they sell at home improvements centers that I have used that worked great. It comes in a spray bottle, but I didn't like the mess it would create, plus you end up wasting a lot of the product. I bought one of the smaller paint rollers, poured the gel in a paint tray, then I applied it over the border and let it sit for a few minutes. I avoided the mess and it came off very easily.

I wanted to add that I used a Tiger Paw before applying the gel.

Good luck!

My friend suggested a multi-cleaner from The Dollar Tree. It is called AWESOME and comes in spray bottle. She said it works great for removing wallpaper and is great for any cleaning job. I bought a couple of bottles and when I was at the check out the cashier said she loves the stuff.

For a buck, I figured it's worth a try!! I haven't had the chance to try it out on the wallpaper yet (I have an entire kitchen to do) but I love it for clean ups!

Good Luck!

It seems to me that I was told that liquid fabric softener works as well or better than commercial wallpaper remover and it's much less expensive. I've never tried it though :)

Our house had only two walls that were not covered in wallpaper when we bought it 10 years ago. At the time, DW and I thought it was great, but time takes its toll and tastes change. I have been slowly removing it over the past several years with a steamer that I bought at Home Depot. It works well if you do not want to use a chemical. Good luck.

I just got through removing wallpaper in a bathroom, LR and kitchen.

I used liquid Downy diluted with hot water in a spray bottle. It worked great! There were places I scored it first with that tiger thingee but for the most part I could pull the top layer off and then spray the backing of the wallpaper. I drenched it and then let it sit for a few minutes and then peeled it off.

Happy stripping! :p

For us the way we remove it really easily is to get a bucket or bowl full of really hot water (as hot as you can stand to put your hand in) and then get a sponge. We wipe the wallpaper border really well with the hot water soaking it really well with the hot water. We get water that runs down the height of the wall it is so wet. We wait about 10 min, re-wipe it with fresh hot water and then peel. Once we get some started we just keep wiping the glue part with hot water and it comes off easily.

Also we have found that for borders if you want to put them up but dont want to deal with the glue a glue stick works really well and is really easy to peel the wallpaper off when you get sick of it. It wouldnt work really well on whole wall wallpapering but for a border it works great. We did this in a duplex we rented while we were waiting for our house to be finished and we put up a border in my dd's room with glue stick. When it was time for us to move out of the duplex we just peeled the border off and wiped the wall with some pinesol and water!

I'm in the process of removing the ugly wallpaper in my kitchen, I've tried DIF and fabric softner. Fabric softner wins hands down and much cheaper.

that one of my favorite home improvement shows SELL THIS HOUSE always uses fabric softener diluted with water after scoring the paper. But the boards were so slow that everyone bet me to it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I actually got the job done!!! Yea for me. I scraped the picture and then applied hot water and scraped the glue. Fortunately I don't have a large area to uncover. (that would be the living room and we just continue to paint over. I will reserve that renovation to any new owners!!!!

Again, thanks for the ideas. Now I just need to decide how to organize the colors these girls want. Purple and orange? Yikes
