Has anyone ever walked from VWL to Ft. Wilderness?......Isn't there a nature trail that connects the two near the water?.......Or would you have to walk the bike trail which is in the woods?......If there is such a trail where does it come out in Ft. Wilderness?

Thanks!!

There is a nature trail but it doesn't go all the way between the two. It would have been nice to have a trail along the water, but the River Country water park is in the way.

The short nature trail that does exist connects to the regular paved bike trail at a point about 1/3rd the distance between VWL and FW.

You can catch the nature trail down next to the bike rental shack near the water's edge at the VWL/WL resort.

There is a trail that goes from one resort to the other. Its abut a mile long and takes about 20 minutes depending on your pace.

After several years taking care of our mothers, my wife and I were finely able to get away for a trip to Disney in 2000. The children were in college so it was just the two of us. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. The first day we took a wonderful stole over to Fort Wilderness where we had stayed eight years before and ate at the Crocket Tavern. It was so relaxing. The flat sandy soil was so easy on the old back.

We plan on using the trail to get back and forth from WL to FW in May unless we use the boat. :D

Concerning the trail from VWL to Ft. Wilderness, I looked for this when we stayed in a Wilderness cabin 2 years ago and could not find it, where does it end/start at the campground? And could we have taken our golf cart rental from the campground over to VWL?

My other question is about River Country. Any info or rumors on what they intended to do with it? We went to the Mickey's BBQ in June 2002 and they sent you over to River Country restrooms and it looked pretty much in tact at that point. What a waste???

the rumor I heard is that it is closed because of the lake water, which I don't understand because when you water ski, if you ski like me, you end up in it alot!!! We bought at VWL and one of the reasons was because of River Country and Discovery Island, we were really bummed to find out both are shut down!!! I thought they were great things to do at a SSSLLLOOWW, pace!!!

Too bad about River Country. I just saw a Travel Channel show about water parks the other night. They said that River Country was the very first, opening in 1976. Blizzard Beach was rate #2.

I can maybe understand the problem with the lake water, but I recall that there was a very nice in-ground pool there also that is going unused. I wonder if they would open that for camper use.

I have also skied there at Bay Lake years ago when it was part of the World Vacation Package and thus free (really just prepaid).
What's it cost to ski now? And have you done the parasailing?

The last time the kids and I could swim at the beach in Ft. Wilderness, someone was bit by a water moccasin. They had to catch it in a bag and bring it out of the water. As far as I can remember (this was years ago) the beach has been closed ever since. Maybe they have a wildlife problem and it's just safer to stay out of the shallow water. We have been there every year and they tell us the beach is closed because of bacteria in the water.

:(

Yuck!

DH is swimming in Bay Lake for the Florida 1/2 Ironman in May. I hope they do something to the water before the swim.

Things I have to worry about:

Water moccasins
Bacteria
Gators

Anything else?:teeth:

there were signs up all over WDW in the lake area - about the bacteria - so make sure he has ear plugs????I think it is necessary.

We were aware of the bacteria and he thought about nose plugs. Do they enter through the nose or the ears?

Anyway, sorry to take this thread off topic.

We'll surely make a few trips between FW and WL in May. DH will have to get his bike from FW to WL and back so he will have to walk.
