Walking to Disney Challenge

A quick question....are you counting all the miles you walk in your regular walking (ie...converting pedometer steps), so this could include walking through the house, around at the office, on errands, etc....or are you only counting miles that you've specifically exercised? Thanks!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am counting all of my steps. They (I guess the exercise guru people) recommend 10,000 steps a day for optimal health. So, in turn, I view this as all steps I take each day. I posted a topic a few days ago about this and someone confirmed that 2,000 steps = 1 mile. If you have any more questions, just ask! It's so much more fun to exercise when it's with a group, as well as pretending to go to a fun location! :)

I'm counting those at work because I sit behind a desk most of the day, the time on the treadmill and the walks I take with our dog, but not just about the house.

Hi everyone,

Just checking in. I got 4 kms done yesterday. I am just shy of the 427 now. I was hoping to be there by today but it was a nice night last night so decided to go for a bike (motorcycle) ride instead....opppsss to bad that doesn't count....lol

have a great day everyone.

I am only counting my running miles. I'm doing this so that I can actually afford to save the money to go for the real trip at the end. Plus, I really want to be able to say I ran to Disney. Because of this, I have found it hard to get on the elliptical trainer, stairmaster, etc., because they don't count towards Disney miles! Its tought to cross train when you don't get the miles!!!!!

I'm only doing my true walk/run time too. Feel free to do whatever motivates you best, though! I did another 3.2 tonight to get to 23.2/1332. Think I'll make it before I need a walker? ;)

How are you ladies getting the cool map picture with your distance highlighted and progress marked? Are you printing a map, highlighting it and scanning it? Or is there a place online that I can "highlight" a number of miles? Thanks!

I have MS Streets and Trips on my home computer and have the map drawn up with the "driving" directions from home to Magic Kingdom. I'm using the Search for Nearby Places feature (highlights a specific radius) to mark the distance I've walked.

I then draw a box around the selected area, copy and paste to PhotoImpression, reduce the size to DIS regulations and upload to my storage space at comcast.net.

I put in my trip start/destination in mapquest.com, then did a screen capture of the map, opened it in a paint program and added my 2 cents :teeth:

Hope that helps!

Sign me up! This is such a good idea. My tentative plan is to be going to WDW next april/may. So, I guess I better get walking!!!!

Hello fellow DISers!

Just writing to say that this will be my last message for about a week since I'll be at Disney! Everyone have a fabulous week and I will tell you how much I really walked while seeing the Mouse! Take care! :)

I walked/ran today by myself and then when I got home, I walked my dog. I am so proud of myself for taking two walks today!!! HAHAHA!!

Today I went for a 3.2 mile walk. I finally passed the 20 mile mark. :cool1:

You're right on my heels tae1218!

Where are you in NE PA?

I live about a half hour north of Scranton Pa.

I forgot to take my pedometer to work. :( I'm going to chalk up just 1 mile for the day...two trips around the building.

I would like to join you guys in this endeavor. But, I am going to walk to Disneyland! I would love to walk there before our hopefull trip in 2007. It is a distance of 2082.48 miles..... that is about 2.41 miles a day. until then. I am looking forward to this! What a great idea!
