Walking to Disney Challenge

I started walking to Disney in April only to run into a chaotic May and June. Between meetings and other professional duties and a widsom tooth extraction (thank God for Lortab!!) I got very few miles recorded and virtually no weight lost. :( I need to get in all the miles I can before mid-July when the schedule goes crazy again. I'm still looking at a Halloween trip to WDW and DCL-Wonder. :boat: But, if I can get my kids (DS-20, DD-12) after Christmas I might have to reschedule in favor of a WDW-only trip with them the first week of January 2006.

are some of you doing "virtual" walks, and some doing "real" walks? I'm confused.

It's a virtual walk in that you don't physically leave home and reach your destination. In actuality we are walking and keeping track of the miles as a goal to keep ourselves motivated.

Walking to Disney Challenge:
1. Measure the distance from home to WDW (or any destination). If you want, figure out if you can make the distance in the time before your next scheduled visit and make it your goal to walk to full distance before you arrive.
2. Walk - on a treadmill, about the neighborhood or mall, etc.
3. Track your progress en route to your "destination". You don't need to have a map, I keep an Excel spreadsheet with each day's mileage and a total.

Some folks are rewarding themselves by paying for each mile walked. A nice incentive to save for a real trip to WDW.

Still cool, but would have been cooler if you were actually walking! My buddy rode his bike from Philly to WDW several years ago. Took 15 days.

Good luck!

I am now at 446.18 miles out of 992 -- about 45% of the way there. This seems to be taking a very long time -- I am going to have to "step it up!"

Just wanted to give an update of my tracking.....I have been at my walking, running, and biking to Disney challenge for about 2 1/2 weeks now and have knocked out 59 of the 993 miles that I need. I'm still on track of needing about 6 miles a day in order to get there by my trip. :wave2:

I am NEW to this board and I think that this is a Great idea!! I am Visiting Disney in November...and I have 1305.24 miles to go....actually after today...1304!

Off to a fantastic start Papa Duece! :cheer2: You're mileage looks about right, based on the location in your profile. MS S&T was calculating anywhere from 1016 to 1047 from Reading to MK. I finally settled on 1020 miles.

that is such a good idea. im going to do it with my mom i think. it is 1025.3 miles from my door to epcot! i wish i really could walk there. anyway yay!

My husband, mom, dad, sister and I are all doing it! For us, it actually doesn't seem that bad. 931 miles (rounded up a smidge) from their doorstep, where we'll be leaving, to Classic Hall at Pop Century! Thanks so much for this fantastic idea! We'll keep you posted! :cheer2:

Oh boy! Lol... I guess I should have calculated before speaking! :) That's still over 5 miles a day for this lazy lazy girl! I've committed now though, it's on the DIS boards! :) Extra pixie dust to those of you with even more .... sheesh!

I have the same feeling...it is 9.8 miles a day for me (uggh!!!)...I need to buy a pedometer so I can calculate every step :teeth:

Wonder where I got to this week?

Keep on trekking everyone! We are doing great!

That's wonderful Lily! I'm at 181.26 as of Friday 6/24. I just don't seem to be racking up the miles like some of you are. Great job everyone!

As of last night, I'm at 218.17 miles...I'm about 92 miles away from Georgia right now.
