My Mom and I are running the Princess Half and staying at POFQ on the Official Princess Half forum quite a few indicated an interest in walking to the corals from the POFQ. We would like to do that but having never done it before would love for a seasoned Princess Half runner to join us and show us the way. I read on here that it's actually a shorter walk from the POFQ to the corals than where the buses drop you off to walk to the corals - plus that extra sleep would be nice! Anybody interested in meeting up and walking over together?

I am at POR and have seen some POR folks express an interest. I think the issue is there isn't an experienced person to lead the charge...

My friend and I are very interested in doing the walk from POFQ - I thought I had read where there was a group doing this - I hope we can put this together...maybe if we started a thread "CALLING ALL VETERANS THE NEWBIES NEED YOUR HELP" - Just a thought, Im not sure if that is ok or not. we are staying at the Sheraton Safari and thought it would be easier to get to POFQ and walk to the corrals than to go to the spot everyone would be going to....

We need a seasoned leader....a meeting location...and meeting time
Anyone?

Remember this option will take us right to corrals...no bag check and we will need to ride the bus back to resort after the race.

I sent a couple of you a PM to ask about this, though from reading this thread, it doesn't sound like there is someone to take the lead. My wife and her two sisters have some interest in this as well and are staying at POR. This is their first time at this event and at POR, so the overall familiarity with the area is not strong. If someone knows of something that will be happening, just let me know as well and I can pass on the info to her.

If I was there with my wife I would "test" it all out the previous day and take the lead, but alas that is not the case. I will cheer her on from home, along with our kids. Looking forward to trying to catch a glimpse of them on the Disney Dream, though, as it sails away from port later that day.

All the best ladies!

I'm at POFQ and would be interested in joining although I thought I read last year that it isn't possible?

Hey guys. If you decide to walk, just be careful out there. FYI, when we stayed at POR in 2010, we got a flyer in our room saying that a black bear had been spotted around there. Yes, that was a while ago and I haven't kept up with the bear ;), but it is Florida and there is lots of wildlife on the property. So be careful is all I'm saying.

I'm staying in POR, but will be taking the bus.

It looks like we don't have anybody who's done it before who wants to do it again :confused3. From what I'd read on the board some people did it last year - or did it for the WDW Marathon weekend? Not sure which. I just don't feel comfortable "leading" since I've not done it in the past. I would hate to mislead anybody - so I think we'll take the bus unless a seasoned Princess Halfer joins us!

What time is the first bus leaving POFQ and from where?

You can check the program or last instructions but sometime around 3am in the front of the hotel. Actually for the full there were several buses lines up starting at bus loading for parks. At POFQ there is only one bus stop for resort buses.

I'm game for this too. I did google street view and have scoped it from the road (we've been here since Friday). I would love to have an experienced person lead is but if other brave souls are up for trying it, I think I'm game.

haha about the bear. Last summer we were doing dinner at the Grand Floridian and exploring the grounds when a CM told us to BE CAREFUL that there were snakes in the grass and aligators in the water. YES Florida....its got wildlife.

I guess I will go for the "whole experience" and do the bus and walk to corral.

Mamacate...way to go.

Hu Cate - are you planning on walking to the corrals still? If si can two more joun you? From where & what time? Whats the fence like that you have to get over?

Hi Dreamer.

I'm starting to think about chickening out since they sent a letter to the rooms saying not to walk (among many other things). It's SOOOOOO close, though, it's so tempting.

You could probably talk me into it, but right now I'm leaning toward the bus. If I go, I'm going to want to go early, in case we get stopped and have to take the bus.

Also, sorry to hijack, but just in case someone might be able to do this, I'm looking for someone who has spectators heading to the finish who would be willing to let me DD9 and her sitter tag along (the sitter is not allowed to leave the hotel property without a responsible adult). IM me or reply here if you have peeps willing).

Thanks!

Cate

yes. I think they posted on the main princess thread. they said it took about 10 min to walk

I didn't do it, but you walk out the main entrance go left, and take first right over the canal. The corrals are RIGHT there - very easy to see. Wondering how the person who did it got in the corral, but looked like you could walk to the back one - in this case D and find your corral.

It is super close and with all the traffic on the bus, thinking might be the way to go next year.

We walked over...took about 10 minutes. We left at 4:30 and were in the corrals just as the first wave of runners came from the staging area.

Go out the main entrance of POFQ and turn left on Bonnett Creek Parkway. Go a couple hundred yards and turn right, crossing over the canal on the road that comes from Old Key West (Vacation Club Way, maybe?).

The corrals are right ahead on Epcot Center Drive. We turned right and walked to the start line, crossed the road in front of the start line and then walked back down the corral entrance side. There were lots of officials/volunteers who were pointing the way we should go...without us even asking for directions!
