We are planning our first trip to DL and just had a question.

We were looking at staying at HoJos and would be walking to and from the park.

I am sure a lot of people do it, but do you feel safe walking back and forth? especially at night.

:goodvibes

Yes. It is safe. There is a lot of activity along Harbor Blvd. until after the park closes. We felt find using the sidewalks and crossing at the crosswalks back to HOJOs.

Thank You

I kind of figured that, but wanted the extra reassurance :goodvibes

Yes, it's safe. There are always people walking to/from the Park during operating hours, and about an hour or so after closing. If you want to be extra-sure that the walk back won't be isolated, cross Harbor at the crosswalk out the front entrance & walk on the side of the street that borders the hotels/restaurants and not the side that borders the Park's fence :thumbsup2

Thank you for the tip

I need to get a notebook and starting taking down DL tips

I know Disney World like back of my hand. So hard to go somewhere else and hardly know a thing :rotfl:

Another "yep it's safe" for ya.

Even the side along the park is lit and you're very visible. It can be disconcerting b/c you're walking against the flow of the traffic, so your eyes can be a bit blinded. Then again, they can see you. :)

When I first saw that side of the street, my mind played a trick on me, and I remembered it as being covered up by bushes...but when I actually walked on it, it's very open.

glad to hear that...thanks:goodvibes

DBF and I just came back from our Disney Christmas trip and we stayed at HoJo's. It is definitely safe to walk there at night (we left after closing every day). Like spacemermaid said, if you want to be extra careful, then cross Harbor Blvd and walk along all the hotels as the other side is pretty quiet.

I've never walked it but am very familiar with the area and that stretch. For the most part it seems safe because there's usually tons of Disneyland visitors in the area, on the streets, crossing, and probably walking back to HoJo's.

However, you'll want to be very careful and keep the eye's in the back of your head peeled. There's loonies everywhere and I'm sure there's scammers and thugs out who specifically target tourists so just keep your eyes and ears open while walking back.

I was offered drugs on the sidewalk, and slightly harassed by a passing vehicle while waiting to cross the street in that main Disney entrance area - all during the same walk!

Walking down Katella can be a little creepy late at night. No biggy though,I was armed. :rolleyes1

We've stayed at the HoJo many times, we've never once had anyone offer us drugs, or had anything creepy happen. Sure I am uber aware of my surroundings but I'm like that no matter where I am, I watch too much CSI! LOL
We always walk down the "other" side of the street from everyone else, it's never felt that unsafe to us, the only time I've felt worried was when cars are going way over the speed limit, but we just walk to the inside of the sidewalk and that's that. :)

WOW, armed. I have worked para-military off and on for a number of years I have found it very difficult to get a Ca CWP. I was told by the Anaheim Police just not to tell anyone when in Ca and there should not be a problem.

My DGF and kids have never had a problem late at night or even felt unsafe. There are so many people moving around.

Thanks. How did you like the Ho Jo's? Also, I was trying to figure out while looking at pics, is it more like a motel where you can walk up to your door and go right in or like a hotel, where your the door to your room is inside a building that you have to walk in to get to ? Hope that made sense.

Thank You. Normally we are like that, but in different place, might be looking all around , since new to us. Have to remember not to do that :rotfl:

Hojo's has interior corridors (ie: in a regular motel, the doors are accessible & visible from the outside; Hojo's rooms are accessed via hallways inside the building. Nobody but those who are in the hotel building see you entering or exiting your room, so it feels very "safe").

I totally agree with Grim_Grinning_Girl. My two dd's, 11 and 7 and I stayed at the Hojo a couple of months ago and the walk back to the hotel late at night was a little sketchy, we tried it on different sides of the street and didn't like either route. If my dh had been along it wouldn't have bothered me so much but that walk at night back to the hotel is the reason why I won't be staying offsite soon if I can help it.

Carry a yo-yo. :thumbsup2 My alcohol soak mind remembers reading somewhere that yo-yos started out as a weapon in the Phillipines, and someone got the great idea to make them a toy. Even got past airport security with the darn thing. :cool2:
Not very good in a gun fight, but a knife fight is another story. :rolleyes1

Yup, inside corridors for the HoJo. :) The pavilion bldgs are only 2 stories, no elevators but those are my favorites. :)

Yes, people drive pretty fast here, but honestly, I think they might drive faster in Idaho! LOL Well some of them anyway, not my Step-Dad to be sure....LOL

I would be scared too if just myself and my son (6.)

But my husband will be there. If not, I would save up the money to stay at one of 3 disneyland hotels:goodvibes

I think we will end up at HoJos then.
