When I stayed at HRH we walked to the park on the pathway that meanders along the waterway. There was a shortcut gate that was on the southeast side of the hotel and could be accessed from the pool area. The last visit we stayed at PBH and were sitting at the bus drop off at US watching people walking the sidewalk that looks like it leads to the parking lot for HRH on the west side of the building. Where does this go? Does it lead to the pool as well? Do you have to walk all the way to the front door of HRH and climb all those stairs? I have looked at this on an aerial photo and if it leads to the pool deck without a locked gate this would be a great shortcut cutting a short walk in half!

I have no idea about north, south, east or west, but when we were at the HRH we walked out the door by the pool and went around passed the Beach Bar and went to the right. There was a gate there that went out to the parking lot and just a few steps from the sidewalk to Universal. It was a VERY short walk to Universal from that gate. We came back that way also and used out room key to open the gate.

Thats it! I thought there might be an employee only/delivery locked gate. This shortcut would be the least amount of walking.
Thanks.

Motherflethcher, your talking about cutting a 5min. walk in half, it's really no big deal. When I was there, someone had shown us a "shorter" route, but we ended up on the other side of the building. So of course the next day, my DS7 wanted too take the short - cut, I said too save a whole minute!!! Enjoy the walk, it's beautiful and smells good too.

We felt this short cut really saved some time and used it almost every time.

You are right, this is a great little shortcut to US. Much shorter than the longer, winding path. Sometimes you have you use your room key to open that gate, and then other times it has been unlocked. We always use that path.

I like to walk the waterway path and have done it from PBH. There are several people that have injuries with temporary or permanent disabilities that want to reduce any walking to the minimum. For them time is not as important as distance. The pool bar gate route appears to be about 335 feet closer to the US turnstile. You are right though it is only a minute and a half faster.:moped:

We usually take the shortcut that goes behind the slide and through the parking lot. It is literally 5 minutes to USF gates.

LOL. Did you measure as you walked?? We have always stayed at the HRH because of the short walk. Do you know how much longer the walk is from the RPR?

Excatly!!!!! That short cut thru the parking lot, put me on the other side of the building where my room was, so I just walked the path too my entrance.

Or as Motherfletcher put it an extra 335 ft. lol.

The shortest walk from RPR to US is the bus route. From Tower 3 its about 1030'. To IOA from Tower 3 about 1470' via boat.
HRH shortest and quickest transportation mode is the walking shortcut to US = approx. 1460'. I calculated a little over 6 minutes from the elevator to turnstile. From RPR Tower 1 to IOA turnstile is almost 11 minutes. From RPR to US walking is 14 minutes.
There are quite a few variables. I scaled the distances from a US Geological Survey aerial map that I'm taping together. It takes up 1/3 of the living room floor and I just have from PBH to HRH and south beyond the parking garages. By the time I get to Jurasic Park I'll be using the front lawn! Walking speed varies from person to person. I'm using the time engineers give to cross an intersection at a walk signal. People on vacation usually don't walk that fast.
My wife asked if the cutting and taping was for work and when I told her that it was for fun she couldn't understand it at all. The kids get excited and recognize landmarks. DD10 is better than DS16. Oh, the life of the pocket protector engineer!

Oh Motherfletcher,
LOL!! Your wife must walk around a lot just shaking her head and rolling her eyes!

Since we're talking about walking distances here, does anyone know how long a walk it is from HRH to IOA?

Let me try this before motherfletcher gets his US geological services maps out.:D

from HRH to USO is about 5 to 8 minu walk.
going from USO to IOA is about another 5 minute walk

I am only estimating even though I have done this walk about a dozen times. Sorry I am not an engineer.

It is not that bad. the two parks are virtually next to each other and a short walk with citywalk between them. Probably 10-12 minute walk total. (HRH to IOA)- other peoples walking times will vary.

Thanks bg4. I cracked up when I read your first line.

I got a kick out of motherfletcher's report when I first saw it-- I read it out loud to my family.

My family thinks I'm nuts -- it's like I've become addicted to these boards. Since we've never been to Universal, I have learned SO much here -- gotten so many tips, I just can't imagine how I could plan such a nice vacation without you guys.

Can anyone provide info on the quickest free transport way from HRH to WDW?
