Yes I know, this is a topic that has been asked over and over again, so please be patient with me because after reading thread after thread I really haven't found what I'm looking for (Bono in the background if you please..)
I will be staying at ASMo, and since I bought the hole package MYW and free dining (yei!) I will be using ME, so no grocery stops there. So, I know that the breakfast items & snacks sold at the resort store are kind of.. well.. overpriced as any snack store that respects itself :rotfl: I read somewhere that there was a grocery store near DD, but somebody told me is not in walking distance :sad2: I was thinking in the groceries online, but DH thinks it's a waste the $10 fee if I'm only buying $40!!!
Basically, I want to buy cereal, maybe apples, and healthy snacks for the parks like granola bars, and some not so healthy.
So what do you think? Should we walk to the grocery store near DD? should we order from garden shop (or something), or just buy it from the resort?
thanks for your help!!

The oly store I would walk to from DTD is Hess, but even that would be a hike. If you are thinking of boxed items you may consider shipping them to the hotel . If they arrive before you do they will hold them for you until you get there. Simply mark the box with your arrival date. I think even apples would hold up through shipping. I send a box every time and it only costs a few dollars. Have a great trip!

I'd pack it - its easy to stash a bunch of granola bars in your luggage, especially out of the box. The cereal I'd leave in a box and just chalk it up to extra space for souvenirs on the way home. Then for the fruit and milk (to go with the cereal), I'd just pick it up from the resort. It is high, but not completely outrageous. I don't think you mentioned how many kids you have, so your mileage may vary if you have a big crew. I always find that we never eat as many snacks as I think we will.

Cheers!

Last Year we took the "limo" service from the airport to the hotel. We stopped at the grocery and did the fruit, granola bars, fruit snacks, water.....you get the idea. We had 90% of it left after 8 days since we had the dining. We even had CS credits left. We would order only 3 CS for lunch since you get so much food and still have left over amounts. This year we are doing the ME so only 1 box of granola bars is coming with us. Unless you are big big eaters, you won't want to waste the money. The dining plan gives you soo sooooo much food. Check carefully too. For example, at POFQ we can order a large (very big) pizza and 2 large drinks for only 2 CS credits. We did this and the four of us couldn't even finish the huge pizza. It left 2 CS for breakfast one day. They do carry over from day to day too. Remember, this is JMHO so do what you feel is best for your family. Whatever you do, have a magical trip. :wave2:

If you take a bus to DD get off at the 2 bus stop for DD and Hess is right acrossed the street.

I use gardengrocer.com. You at least need a case or two of water for a week. We are getting 2 cases for 3 of us. They have breakfast foods, snackes, milk, chips, everything you need. There is a $10 fee but it is well worth it. If you have to schlep to DTD, get things at the quick mart, schlep back to your hotel, you have wasted precious park time, and probably will pay the same.

We are packing ours in a small (kids size) suitecase, then I plan on using it to carry souviners home. We will be using staples to ship water down.

Thanks for all your good advices, it's great to hear from experienced travellers. This is the first time that we go with our children (we have two by the way KristinU, DS4 and DD7), and also the first time with the Dining Plan, so we have so many questions!!
Tatooed goofy, you answer one of my questions, I've been reading that it's so much food! we are not light eaters but even so... Maybe we'll pack some snacks like granola bars, and then if needed, get some from the resorts..

Thanks you all! :cool1:

I've heard Hess is not a significant savings from the resort food. Last year we stayed at the ASMo and took and extra suitcase full of our own walmart cheap food and snacks and pepsi products :p with the plan of eating our own food and then using the suitcase for our disney-bought crap... But what really happened is the ASMo has a great food court which takes your CS credits and you'll be full for a while. We ended up eating breakfast at the food court and bringing our from-home snacks BUT we hardly ate the snacks because on the dining plan we ate like there was no tomarrow (appetizers and desserts...at...every...meal!!)
We ended up throwing most of the food we brought away! I'd say 75% of it was wasted.

Wow...
You know? DH and I will eat like that, like there was no tomorrow (I fortunately have a good metabolism and with all the walking...). But my kids are a mess when eating, they will be distracted and will not eat properly.. then of course one or two hours after the meal when DH & I will simple be sick at the sight/smell of food, DD and DH will be hungry again! and there goes our CS... and they of course they will want ice cream and goodies like that! Well, let's see how we handle it!

We have done the limo stop and have walked to Goodings from the DTD bus stop, never been to Hess. Goodingsat Crossroads is about a mile walk and its a full grocery store. We purchase our libations for the stay, lunchmeats, snacks etc and walk back to the bus stop. We go the first day of our stay and feel the walk is not bad because we'll be walking during our stay anyway. The money we save on drinks, pop beer and wine, plus a picnic on room made sandwiches, fruit and chips, after resturant food for 3 days, can't be beat. We do not like grocery delivery, to expensive and we like to see and chose our own and the trek to Goodings has become a tradition. We hear there is a Winn Dixie alittle further down the road, another mile and cheaper but we're happy with the selection and prices of Goodings. A cab to and back to get groceries is also too expensive. Figure we have legs, need exercise and it tones us up for the 10 nights we'll be at Disney. Its just our way , but not for all.
