Walking for my Dream (Comments welcomed)

Denise....I did ten pushups---collapse---another ten---collapse...you get the picture.:lmao:

Denise (quilter Denise) Scary about the TM. I'm shocked that can happen. Glad it seems OK. I went to my quilt group tonight too.
BTW I told DH about the "tires"...he laughed.

I got into a long walk tonight with DH. He is starting to get faster until he got a groin cramp. Also got to the gym in the afternoon and did my fastest TM walking ever. 4.2 mph for 30 minutes and the rest was at 3.9. I've been doing interval training on it lately and I think thats helping me get my speed up. I didn't feel short of breath or sore at all.

I'm working dayshifts for the next two days so I'll only be able to go for a walk outside in the evenings. Though I think its supposed to rain. I need a home treadmill!

Enjoy your training!

Good Morning!!!

It's thursday, I leave for retreat in about 2 hours. Have not walked since Monday! Feel so guilty. Ah, next week will be a new time for me. I hope to get in some walks over the weekend if it isn't too muddy.

We did not have Bee Tuesday, everyone was not feeling well. Yesterday, Mark got the flu so I spent the night in the spare bedroom. Geez it's all around me.

I can't wait to "get outta Dodge" for a bit and be with my quilting friends. I don't think I'll make the March challenge but I did give it a good effort.

Hope all is well over the weekend, take care.

Hi Denise...I'm pretty jealous about the retreat. Its been about a year since I did Quilt Canada in Ottawa. Thats a huge conference with classes, juried shows etc. But I prefer a retreat really. The one I like the best doesn't even offer classes. So no UFO's. Just bring what you want to work on yourself. I actually get alot done a that one. I'll probably sign up for that one in the fall.

I got in a good workout at the gym and a long walk with DH tonight. he held my hand the entire time...most unlike him. Then I realized he was just making sure I didn't walk too fast. lol.:rotfl: My DD tried running at the gym for the first time and enjoyed it. That was pretty cool.

I'm seeing "We will rock you" tomorrow. Should be a great show.

Hey Carole,

Glad to hear your workouts are going well!!

I cracked up when you said about your DH holding your hand so you didn't walk to fast! That is so funny!! :rotfl2:

40 Pushups!!!! That is AWESOME!! I can barely do one!!!

How are you DH's shin splints? I hope he is feeling better.

Keep up the good work!

Hi Laurie,
He is getting better re the shin splints. At least tonight he didn't complain about them. But I have been careful not to push the speed. I'm noticing he is getting faster on his own. We have been slowly increasing the distance. Tonight we walked 1.6 miles. I'de like to get up to about 3 miles a night but I'm not telling him that yet. No need to scare him away.

We went to the show "We will Rock you" today in Toronto. Awesome show. Its the music of Queen set in a story line.

Tomorrow is a gym day and its really time for me to address weightloss before heading to Disney next month. I kept thinking just exercise would do it and my clothes do fit better. But I need a 5 pound loss to counteract the enivitable 5 pound gain of Disney. Especially since the dress for my sons wedding is fitting perfectly now...but 5 pounds would be a disaster on that dress. Funny....I think most of my life has been "If only I was 5 pounds lighter". And it didn't matter whether I was 40 pounds overweight or not overweight at all. Its the magic 5 pounds.

Carole-
Glad to hear your DH's shin splints are doing better.

"We will Rock You" sounds like a great show! I love Queen's music, wish the show came to the NY area.

Keep on doing what your are doing, and watch what you eat and you can definetely lose 5 pounds. Keep up the good work!

I had a GREAT day!!!   I walked to the gym and back so there was 2.5 miles. Then did a TM workout of 40 minutes and then abds and lots of stretches. And tonight DH and I did another 1.5 miles. No complaints of shin splints tonight. Altogether I got in about 5 miles.

For some reason I thought the show played in New York first. Though I could be wrong. Dirty Dancing tickets are coming available in April. My DD's favourite movie so I'll be buying tickets for her birthday for the musical production. And going with her of course! The show isn't till October which is when her birthday is.

My DS got a great scholarship this week too. His tuition paid plus 17,000.00. He is a PHD chemistry student. He does TA work as well so gets money enough to live on but its pretty tight. So this scholarship is really going to help him out. I'm really happy for him.

Glad to hear you had an awesome day!! Isn't that such a great feeling!!

COngratulations to your DS on his scholarship!! That is so great!!

I skipped the gym today because it was a balmy 23 degrees (70 plus F) so Maggie (my lab) and I went for a 4 mile walk. Poor dog was trailing behind me at the end...just the last block or so. And on my walk I stopped at my local hiking store and found Wicking underwear by Tilley. Expensive but I'm learning the importance of the Wicking clothes so Wicking underwear just makes sense. And what a nice store. I asked where the best place to tie Maggie up and they said just to bring her in.
DH had other plans than walking tonight so we went for a motorcycle ride. I figured it was fair as he has been very good about going out walking lately.
And I got some gardening done. Just cleaning off the debris from winter. But I like that because I can see the new growth.
All in all a very good day!

Made it to the gym today and did weights and abds. Lately I've been doing all my cardio outside which is really nice. Great walking weather and I've been walking about 5 miles a day.
My snail is almost at the one month mark!!!! I'm getting soooooo excited. Heck I'm almost packed. I found some great walking sandals and a pair of shorts that look good tonight. I'm ready to go.

Good Morning!

Well I’ve been a slug. We went to retreat and I did nothing but eat, sew and laugh ,oh and of course SHOPPING! We had a blast. I did no walking because it was very muddy where we were. Came home and crashed. I didn’t get back on the TM till last night 65 min workout between the TM and the ellip. Felt great to be back in my routine. I won’t make my goal of 1000 min this month but I’ll be close by the end of the month.

Carole, sounds like you are doing great in your workout. The family will try to do the outside walking – long distance this weekend. Hope to go to the track on Sunday am.

Thanks Tracy for the encouragement!

Denise...sounds like a great Retreat!!!! Its a great break from routine. I'm thinking seriously about a retreat in the fall. BTW how long is your long walk?
Oh and I just finished quilting my son's Wedding quilt. That has taken me all winter. Just binding left to do and a label. And I signed up for a year long club doing a New York Beauty...one of Karen Stones designs. I like doing a club for those kind of quilts. Keeps me going. A friend of mine joined to. Even better.

Good day today. I got in 5 miles today walking between outside and on the TM. My ipod quit half way through. Sad. I really had to talk myself into keeping going on the TM. I kept thinking "remember why you are doing this and it isn't because of an Ipod." And I did alot of stretches. No weights today. Tomorrow is a weights day.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow

Aren't IPODS the best? I LOVE mine. It keeps me motovated and I can understand your feelings when it quit during your routine.

Way to go on the Quilt! What a great feeling. I'm switching between punchneedle and a wool quilt right now. Want to do everything but working and working out puts a crimp in my fun things.

Last night my daughter and I did 2.5 miles in 35 minutes. It was cold but we dressed for it and it felt good to be outside.

When I'm on the treadmill I usually do 4 miles but that is only if I do not do the ellip. When I do both, I do 2 miles on the tm for 30 min and 35 min on the ellip.

Go to the retreat. What a great way to seriously work on projects, be with girlfriends and be inspired by what others are doing.

Have a good weekend. I'll be checking in here and there. No workout today, it's date night

Wow...where did March go??? Though Yeah...it means May is much closer.

Denise I keep looking at punchneedle. I really like the little ones. But I have so many UFO's I have been trying not to add to them by starting something new. And yes it feels so good to get the hand quilting done. I've already loaded on a new quilt to hand quilt-Roseville and did a few stitches. On Sunday I'm going to get the bias prepared for the wedding quilt. I have to work tomorrow.

Took DD to the family doctor after the gym today. Someone wearing stillito heels stepped on her when she was on the dance floor and her foot was quite bruised. No bones broken luckily according to the doctor. Funny I told her to go and get it checked out but it took another nurse saying it for her to believe it.:confused3

Went for a long walk with DH tonight to a local park and my Maggie dog. Because DH walks so slow I wore one of my sandals that I'll be wearing in Disney. Got to get my feet used to sandals again. I can now see where one of the sandal straps was rubbing. I have 5 weeks to toughen up the top of my feet.

Ok, Carole, I think you've inspired me to WALK to the gym to swim today - MAYBE!!! If not, I"m definitely going to one day this week.

That's wonderful about your DS scholarship. Glad your DD foot is OK. That must have REALLY hurt! Glad it didn't puncture the skin!

Have a great weekend!

No real activity today. Too tired after my 12 hour shift at work. But I did get a good start on my binding for the wedding quilt, so thats good.

Julie I'm managing to get 2 1/2 extra miles in a day of walking by walking to the gym and its more interesting than the tread mill. However there is shopping opportunities along the way. I may be a quick shopper but I can still do alot of damage to the pocketbook. I may have to find a different route.:lmao:

Tomorrow is a gym day with DD. Hopefully her foot is feeling better.

For some reason I had to have a bag of hickory sticks today. I'm a very healthy eater so this was way of of character for me. It was an emotional eating moment because I'm concerned over a recent development-post menopausal bleeding, which stated 2 days ago. I've already made the doctors appt...its next Thurs. And I keep telling myself that 90% of the time its benign. But my mind keeps jumping to the 10% uterine cancer that jumps out on the page. And I'm not keen about the tests that will have to be done to rule it out. There...its on paper so to speak. Maybe that will clear the mind. Anyway I'm going to have to avoid the emotional eating thing.

Today I worked so didn't get in any walking or gym time. But yesterday I did walk 5.5 miles with DD. We started off strong going about 4.1 mph. But by the end we were going about 3.8. I think I could have kept going fast but DD's foot where the stilitto injury is was bothering her. And we were both tired. Kind of scary to think off adding another 21 miles on to that.:scared1: At this point I'de have to say we couldn't do it but we have a year and a half to go. Hopefully by then we will feel able. We are going to try for 7 miles next time.
Hey...my dog is looking thinner! She gets to join in on all the walks.

Hi Carole, I admire the dedication you have in your training for a marathon. Which marathon do you plan to walk in?
