Walking Entrances and Nearby Hotels

GCH (before the Villa addition) - .32 of a mile

I got .38 from our room at GCH to the center of the esplanade (chosen b/c it's in between the parks). It was the second furthest room from the end of the wing, the view was the Naples sign if I recall correctly. Not the wing that you could go down the stairs and into DTD from. Traverse all the way to the elevators, wait, go out, go all along the way you had just come, but the other way, etc.

An incredibly frustrating route.

I mapped HoJo to compare, and it was pretty much the same distance from the sidewalk outside, along the Disney side of Harbor, to the center of the esplanade. With HoJo you're expecting it; with the Grand you're not really.


But what do I know? I consider Hilton Garden Inn to be basically walkable, and just stayed at the new Country Inn and Suites when running the Rebel Challenge, and walked to and from each time. All I know is that if I'm staying onsite I need to be in EASY walking distance, and the Grand just peeved me b/c it was as far as offsite.

OK, based on the proposed plan, here is the walk based on the need to go through the Security Check, and then the ramps and bridge. I got .46 of a mile from the Park Vue Inn, based on the fact they will do demolition and rebuild as a Hotel, using a "close" room. Here is the marked map. So it got moved from the GCH group of Hotels/Motels that are close, and move into the Disneyland Hotel 1/2 of a mile group, which will include the Motels that add the back ewntrance.

Let me add that if you look at the walk from the GCH Villas at a close room at the New Park Vue, they are basically the same.

And things change, look at the additional walk folks need to make now from the PPH to the ESPN Zone for the security check. So yes, it is longer, but not that much. And there will be the ART new Route that will service the one block of Hotels on Harbor from Manchester to Disney Way as a second option but almost the same walk from the ART Drop-off to the Main Entrance Plaza. (.42 of a mile)

For those needing ADA/wheelchair assistance, they could take the ART and then a short walk to the special Disneyland ADA bus that would take the person to a new drop off area (more than likely near Harbor Pointe) and then a short walk to the parks after using the limited Security Check. (about .15 of a mile as an educated guess to the exact drop off point will be).

I guess it's not that much further but at the end of the day when you're so tired can barely walk, every step seems like a mile. Thanks for the info. I read about Park Vue's remodel before and it's kind of sad to me. I like the quaintness of it now and I'm guessing their rates will go up. Oh well, change is good I guess

I presume that with doubling the size, you will end up with a limited service Hotel, and some of the rooms will be designed as family suites (the new trend in Anaheim Hotels). And of course, the family needs to recoup their investment, so yes, prices will rise.

And changing to a nicer pool, that is a Good Thing. Underground parking, another good thing. Having to close down for a year or two, not so good.

At least the city council approved a resolution that was need to allow financing for the project on January 10th.

We stayed at the Anaheim Desert Inn back in 2015. Our room was toward the very back of the hotel, on the top floor. Even with waiting for the elevator and pushing our toddler in a stroller...the walk to the gates was only around 10 minutes. So really any hotels in that areas have a doable walk. Well....for now, at least. Once that new bridge is in, I guess we'll see.

But it gets to the point where if it gets much more expensive, I would just stay at one of the Disney hotels, KWIM? We used to stay at DLH or GC but tried PVI last time and liked it. Felt good saving all that $, free breakfast and parking. But of course rooms aren't as nice.

My guess, it would be around the price as the nearby HoJo, Courtyard and Holiday Inn Express. I think they will also improve their free breakfast.since I presume they will build a new prep area to allow a larger selection.
