Hey all,

My son and I will be doing SWW again this year. I was able to book a deluxe studio with a boardwalk view for 4 nights. I am debating if I want to rent a car during this period or us ME.

Realistically how long does it take to walk to DHS from BWV? Last year we stayed at OKW and had a rental. We would go early in the morning, head back to the resort for an afernoon break, and then go back to DHS. And are planning to do the same this year. It just seems like a lot of walking on top of walking also over the park.

I would appreciate any input you may have. Also, how is the wifi at the BWV? Anyone have any firsthand experiences?

Thanks for your input!

the walk to DHS from BWV is not long - should be 15 to 20 minutes (okay several do it less time - 7 minutes was the shortest that I have seem)

you can take the boat - but walking can be faster.

Walk or Boat ride, but either way it is not far. If you are looking at renting a car just to get to DHC, I certainly would not. As for the WIFI, we were there a week or two after they turned it up at BWV and had no issues. It worked great.

My DH and I had a BWV view rooms several years ago and raced each other back to the room from DHS. Even though the boat left almost as soon as I boarded and I got off at Swan/Dolphin and crossed the birdge to the abck entrance to BWV, he easily beat me by walking. -- Suzanne

We just had a iBR BW view two weeks ago and it was awesome! The walk to DHS is not bad -- it's almost seemed to be about the same as the walk to the BWV parking lot! :rotfl2: It's about a 20 minutes from BWV to DHS on foot. If you pick up the boat at the Dolphin, which is the last stop before DHS, the boat ride is about 10 minutes. Walk, drive, boat . . . your going to invest at least 20 minutes.

As for the wifi - - - :sad2::sad2::sad2:. We were in room 4041 and had terrible reception. I had my travel router and the wired internet was still working. I have seen others report better experiences at BWV, but it was terrible for us.

It's about 0.7 mile one way from the DHS gate to the BW pool entrance. Flat walk on a paved path the whole way. Not much shade in the middle of the day. It's quite pleasant after the sun is down. The boat from the BW dock to DHS dock as around 30 minutes, so definitely slower, but shaded and/or covered from rain.

Thank you all for your insight! Let me be a little more specific. If you were traveling with your 11 year old to SWW and each day would be as follows:

Wake at 4:00 am
Be in line at DHS by 5:00 am
Head back to BWV for an afternoon swim
back to DHS around 4:00 pm
Back to BWV around 8:00 pm

Also keep in mind that last year the temps were in the upper 90's and we were constantly on the go the entire time at the park.

Now for those die hard walkers, considering my schedule, would you rent a car or walk.

Thank to everyone for your input!!

I would still walk. It is a nice walk and quicker then taking the boat. Now if you are tired, take the boat back for your afternoon swim.

5am??? I've never heard of anyone getting there that early!

I'd still walk. That's the time of day the walk will be nice. You always have the boat option, so I certainly don't think it's necessary to rent a car. We enjoyed the boat after a long day of walking.

I'd still walk. By the time you walk to the parking lot and then from the DHS lot to the DHS entrance, you will have walked almost as far. The parking lots are almost halfway to the DHS!

Plus I do not believe the DHS parking lots open that early.

The only time that may be a problem (hot) will be the late afternoon return. Consider taking the boat for that trip.

May I ask why you are arriving at a park so very early? Parking lots will not be open and boats will not be running, so you will need to walk.

No doubt, I would walk. By the time you leave your room to get to your car, drive across the way to the parking lot, park(usually quite a hike from the main gate)and then get to the turnstiles, you could probably walk to/back in the same time.

Arriving that early to get in line for autograph fastpasses. It is a sight to see, some people spend the night online on aero beds.

The parking lots are open all night during SWW. They don't staff them, so if you are staying off property, parking is free.

I have never heard of anyone getting to the parks that early :rolleyes1

Come to the darkside! :rotfl2: Meet my son and I at BWV 4:00 am on June first, 2012.

My son has been blessed with Asperger's Autism. Last year I told him that we were not gong to get autographs. He asked why. I said that was for the die hard star wars fans. They get up at 4:00 am to get in line for autographs. He said, "Dad, I am a die hard star wars fan." We were in line at 5:00 am.

I wish I could find the link to the photo of the person on the aerobed at 9:00 o'clock the night before.

Just because you never heard of it, doesn't mean it isn't so. Last year there were people in line for autographs all night long. The line at the turnstile to enter the park began to form at the same time.

It really is a sight to behold.

We always walk and sometimes get the boat back - you can use an exit on the side of the hotel by the club house, you don't need to exit from the front of the hotel (this cuts serveral minutes off the walk)

Early in the morning it's a really nice walk.

LOL! That's great!

I'll point out that depending on where you are within the BWV layout, the walk may even be shorter. In addition, the walk to the boat can be quite a ways depending on where your villa is and there is still some walking after you get off the boat at the studios. The difference in distance to walk vs take the boat from BWV to DHS should be right at or just under half a mile from most areas within BWV.

The walk will definitely be quicker than driving. Depending on exactly where your room is and where you have to park your car, the walk to DHS could be just as long as the walk to your car
