Hi all, I am planning a future trip to the world. Since I have to be on oxygen 24/7 I thought I would have to get a scooter. Thanks to pulmonary rehab and the great people there I am walking a bit more. Right now my personal goal is to do 2 miles a day in an hour. Now this is on a treadmill, going uphill still kicks me you-know-where and don't expect that to change anytime soon. Recently they suggested I get a walker, not knowing anything about walkers I pictured Grandma using the one with the tennis balls on the ends and I thought how awful. After doing some research I found newer models like the rollater with four wheels, saddle bags, seat and breaks. They look like the perfect thing for going to malls and such and I even started thinking about using one at the world. I was wondering if anyone else has done this? Would really like to hear from anyone who has done this or gone with someone who did it. Thanks

Congratulations on your progress!
You would not be alone using one in WDW. They are actually getting to be a fairly common sight at times.

You probably would also need a scooter - most people walk at least 3 miles in a day at the parks and there are a lot more hills than people realize. But, you could alternate riding and walking. A lot of people use their scooter to get from one general area to another and then park their scooter while they walk around the area (take your key with you).

What you are describing is called a rollator. My sister has used one for about 5 years now due to lack of stamina. She used one on our trip to WDW in 2010. She did great for most of the trip, but some places she still wore herself out. Our trip in 2011 required her to use an ECV.

You indicate your goal is 2 miles in an hour, if you can do the 2 miles in an hour and still be able to go all day long with minimal breaks using an rollator, then you should be okay for most of the parks. If after you have done those 2 miles, you find you have little stamina for the rest of the day, I would consider an EVC for at least some of your days in the park.

Here is a picture of me holding onto hers while she was meeting a character in 2011:

From the trip in 2010, here are some observations that might help you.

DHS: For the most part since this is a flat park, she did well as it is actually pretty small and attractions are close together.

AK: Too spread out and she was only able to do half the park. Some of the walkways were really bumpy to push the rollator.

MK: Once we got down Main Street, the hardest part, she did okay in the lands as long as she got breaks between them.

Epcot: She would not have been able to do the whole park in one go, but we divided up FW and WS. In FW, the only really problem was the space and going up the ramp for the Land. In WS, we rented an EVC as she would have had problems going around and getting to see everything.
