Walking and Shuttles

We are staying at the Monumental Movieland Hotel very close to the entrance to Universal. So close that we should be able to walk to avoid parking fees. My question is, at night would there be a shuttle we could take BACK to the hotel or something like a cab but for less money than paying to park? We will at least stay in UO until closing every night, and I'm not too keen on walking back in the dark.

Well, it isn't that close. It's about a 25 minute walk. I certainly wouldn't want to be walking that at night. You'll have to see what times their shuttle runs. I'd probably take a cab. Should cost you around $10. There are closer offsite hotels that would be fine to walk to at night.

It's already booked and for the price I paid, even paying to park would still be a bargain if we had to.

I'd either drive and pay for parking or take a cab back. No one wants to walk 25 minutes on a busy street after a day walking miles and miles in a park.

Refresh my memory.... are you staying long enough to make it worth it for one person in your party to get a Preferred Annual Pass, which has free parking as a benefit??

Gotta agree with above posters......it is a fair old walk from that hotel to the parks........add in tiredness and the heat.........pay the parking or take a cab.....it'll be worth it.

Snoop I already paid for tickets via Mapleleaf.

Even for people who walk all the time? I guess if it's that bad of a walk we'll bite the bullet.

I'd still take a cab at night. You're going to be crossing some major intersections.

You can upgrade your tix once you get there, tho. Upgrade to the lowest priced AP, might be cheaper than parking, and then you're all set.

It's not that close but it's walkable if you don't have a problem with a 20-30 walk.I-Drive and Universal blvd have heavy traffic so be careful crossing streets,at least on the way back getting a cab would be worth it.

This is excellent advice. Not sure why I didn't think of it. Point of advice... the lowest price AP does NOT have the parking benefit. You've got to get the Preferred Pass or the Premiere Pass.

My brother was in Orlando last week for a wedding and they took A cab from airport to hotel and it was sixty dollars. Took uber from hotel back to airport on advice from front desk clerk and it cost twenty. Try them, maybe?

Sign up for uber and. Get the app on your phone. Nice and easy, cheaper than cabs

I've walked from the 4 point sheraton which is about the same distance from Universal. I remember sidewalks all the way and walk signals at all but one cross road. Its a long walk but if you walk a lot not a big deal. I would double check on google maps to know exactly where you are going (the path leads to the bus drop of area). Remember to be extra cautious (especially if walking after dark). I only saw a very few other people walking and lots of cars not really paying attention to pedestrians. You could possibly leave half an hour before the rest of the group and walk back and then pick the rest up in a car at the drop off area.

I stayed at the Monumental Movieland Hotel a few months ago. They do have a shuttle to the Universal parks. By the way, the attached restaurant is kind of gross. Thankfully, many other alternate restaurant options are within walking distance from the hotel.

I heard it was pretty okay. I guess it depends on your tolerance for food. I'm more worried about the weather now...
