WalkieTalkies-do you really need them?

If I woke up before DH and DS I would take one of the walkie talkies and go up to deck 9 and get some coffee and then head up to deck 10 and just relax. When DH got up he would call me and let me know. Then I could bring him back a coffee.

When I was on the Wonder in May there were a lot of people that had them, we did not bother. The only thing is many of the people that had them were VERY rude and left them on while they were in the shows and movies so they were going off all over the place and distracting people trying to watch the movie and show. It was as bad as some cell phone users at movies back home!

We forgot to take ours onboard and there were times it would have been nice to have them. On the occasional times we separated and had different activities I would have liked to find them for hookup times. If you have them take them, but I don't think I would buy them just for the trip. We were altogether most of the time.

We didn't have them - instead we left a note pad in the cabin and whenever anyone left the cabin they just time/dated it and stated where they were going. It worked great. If we were ever looking for someone we just check the log and went from there. It served as a great journal of activities when we returned.

We have bought a second set of the two way radios so that each of us will have one. With a DD14 and a DD10, they will probably be in different palces, and we will just feel alot better if they always have a way to get in touch with us. (And of course, us with them since they will be able to roam the ship alone!)

They worked well for us since we have teens and one pre-teen. This is the way we communicated on the ship and we had our youngest son check in w/ us so we knew where he was, etc. We did not have them on while in a movie. In fact, my son would call us just before the movie to tell us what he was doing and that he was turning the walkie talkie off for a while. We plan to bring at least 1 set next month.

We had a set and used it a few times. Often it wouldn't work (too much steel or whatever) Yes, we had the ones with subchannels etc. The few times it did work well was fine, but it was something we could live without. Also we had two cabins, and one charger, so there were times the battery was dead on one or the other. Kind of a hassle, actually. We have one now so I would probably take it along. Would not buy one again though.

we were glad we took ours. During the ressi-scramble and times we split up, it was great to 'stay in touch'. They take up soooo little room...it's worth it.
