walkie talkie advice

Can anyone recommend a good walkie talkie set that will work on the Magic, so that I can keep in contact with my sons? I've heard that they don't work well on the ship, but then I've heard that they do.

Can anyone help?

We took Motorola talkabouts (model T5710) and they worked fine when we used them, just frequently forgot to take them with us. They didn't do a lot of good in the cabin!

There really is too much metal for them to do much good. I didn't even bother to bring mine. I did see them on board the first few days, not much later in the cruise, so I suspect folks gave up.
I took mine to Disneyland, that was a waste. 15 people on every channel yelling "dad, mom"......just too many people there with them.

We also used the Motorola, and had very little trouble using them. We really like the convience of communicating with DD11 anytime we needed to.

We use the motorolas and they work fine for use. Nice to use them when tracking down the kids or having to split up and go to different parts of the ship.

We also used a set of Motorola family radios. Absolutely loved having them. We have 3 of them, one for each of us. Granted, the reception was not perfect - but if we knew someone was trying to get ahold of us, we would just did a really quick trip back to the room to "reconnect" and then go back to what we were doing.

We didn't have any problems with other families using "our" channel at all.

After using them on our first cruise we won't be without them on our next. They worked great!

We also used Motorola's and had no trouble at all. We'll be taking them with us this coming March on the Wonder.

I saw many families using them on the last cruise we were on....the only bad part of al the people using them is that they dont turn them off in the movie or during the show and you keep hearing them and it is very distracting to the people around you in the theater.!
