Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Hi everybody. I have been following the thread for awhile now, but I have just been so busy that I have never gotten around to posting. However, many of ya'll will be seeing me at the Half in my bright green WISH shirt, so I thought I should say hi.

I'm very excited about the half but very nervous at the same time. I am well above the 16 minte pace. I've been averaging about 16:34 on my long walks and 16:04 on my shorter ones. Also, I was ill a couple of weeks ago and now the kiddos are home from school and dh is out of town, so I haven't been able to get out in a couple of weeks. None of that is helping to ease my nerves. I was thinking of downloading some tunes with about a 140 bpm pace that I can use when I feel like I'm falling even further behind. Is that even allowed? If it is, do ya'll have any suggestions.

I pulled up the times from last year's half, and saw quite a few finishes that were over the 3:30 time limit. There were some 8 hour finishes, but I figure that was a problem with the chip. I did see 1 4 hour finish and some 3:45. Well, no matter. I will stay in it for as long as I can. I won't be stopping for pics or anything, but it'll give me something to shoot for for next year. Can't believe I'm thinking about 2009 already.

My family (dh and 2 dds -- 8 and 5) will be staying at the Yacht Club. We're arriving on Friday afternoon. We only have the reservations for 1 night, but I may extend it and try to stay and join the Scream Team for the Full. Dh can't stay the extra day, (He teaches Sunday School at church and doesn't want to miss another Sunday) and I doubt the girls would enjoy cheering with me; so I'm going to see if he'll bring them home with him and give me a night to myself. I love my kiddos, but a night to myself sounds so blissful right now. He's out of town right now, so I'll ask him when he calls. (he's an airline pilot, so he's out of town a lot.)

Anyway, that's about it, and I need to go break up the screaming match in the other room.

Talk to ya'll later.

Eva: I would move to the front of your wave to help give you a few extra minutes. The times you saw over 3:30 were probably people who were in Wave B which started 20 minutes before Wave C. There 3:45 would have been a 3:25 time for a Wave C walker. Also, if you can stay ahead of cutoff pace until close to EPCOT, they didn't pull you(mile 10 was the last cutoff in 07). This year they don't mention that. I would work hard early to stay as close(if not ahead of) cutoff pace. My 2 cents.

Eva: I think most of us who have never done this before are in exactly the same boat....excited and nervous at the same time. At this point, you really can't do anymore so just go and enjoy the experience. Race day adrenalin is a very powerful thing and I would think it will be even more so at Disney....especially since you're such a big fan. I have only trained to 20 miles and don't know if I am even capable of 26.2, but I'm just gonna go enjoy the event. There will be lots of WISHers in the back of the pack for both races and they will give you lots of support. Just go and have fun and you may pleasantly surprise yourself.

Hi! I am nervous about doing the half. I didn't get to start training until October because of numerous surgeries this summer. I have a great friend that is doing this with me and we are determined to have a good time! My big goal? - To finish!!! My name is Michelle and I would love to have people come and say hi and cheer me on! I will return the favor!:cheer2:

Hi Eva and Michelle, meeting new people is so fun:thumbsup2 When you get to the pre start just look for all the WISH shirts, we glow, you can't miss us.

I get to meet Stacey and Maria, so many pretty princesses, so much grace and beauty in one place. Life is good:)

Yes Maria, I agree: Walkers Let's Do This!!!!!

Hi Kim, it's almost time to leave princess. We can't wait to see you and all the nutty WISH team again.

Ok Walkers Group Hug:grouphug: , We are going to Disney:dance3:

Excited Panda:yay:

Welcome Eva and Mitchell :welcome:

As everyone said just find the Neon Green Wish shirts and introduce yourself. We are there to support each other through the race.

I did 3.25 miles on TM last night. After walking outside lately, I find the TM to be a struggle.

Next week at this time I should be landing at MCO.

Well our dear friends in the western states are going to be having fun with winter storms. Robert's area is scheduled for 10 feet of snow. I can't even imagine that. Especially since there are 2 more storms coming right after that one. They will have to tunnel out to the road to get on the magic bus to Disney.

Robert, Linda, Stacey.....Y'all there?

Thanks for all the welcomes. I had the pleasure of meeting a few DIS WISHers at the Minnie 5K last year, and yes, I love the shirts. They are very easy to find.

Robert, you have my game plan down exactly how I was hoping to do it. However, I bet there will be quite a few of us trying to get to the front in an effort to get a few extra minutes, so I'm not totally sure how this will go. I'm gonna give it my best shot though.

Here's to hoping that it warms up some. I'm in the Melbourne area, and we actually had to turn on the heat yesterday. Bbbbrrrrrrgggghhhhhh. It does feel a little warmer today though. Of course, we don't need it as warm as last year. I started reading the posts here last year after Marathon Weekend and read so many reports about how hot it was.

Have a great day everyone.

I don't have a lime green shirt so I will have to look for all of you!:thumbsup2

I am getting so excited! I can't believe that the big day is almost here. This is my first half and it is a big part of the changes I am making in my life before I turn 40 in June. I am just so proud of myself - and every one of you out there that are doing this!

Go WISHers!:cheer2:

Michelle
We leave for Disney on Wednesday! WooHoo!

Michelle -- Are we twins separated at birth?! I am adopted...:rotfl:
This is also my first Half before I turn 40 on June 8th. I am determined to be fit, fabulous and 40! Fabulous is a state of mind, 40 comes without any effort, and fit is my mantra to get in the shape I've always dreamed of:cloud9: So, do you want to share the other changes are you making? Isn't it great to start to feel empowered?!

Eva -- Welcome! We are going to be huddled together at the front of the corrals, some way or other!;)

Dave, Jeanne, Kim, Robert, et.al -- Ok, I know we have the WISHmeet Friday afternoon -- Can we do a mini Walkers meet somewhere at Pop? I don't want to miss anyone, and this is my first time, so you have to be gentle with me!

To everyone who trained, tried, and has contributed to this Thread -- I am so proud of you! I am like a poster child for the saying on the WISH shirt -- You gave me the courage to start!

Dave: The storm is hitting. Linda's boss and my client sent us home at 2:00 pm to save us from more snow. It is really windy. The weatherman said if this storm was over the ocean, it would be a tropical storm boardering on a small hurricane. Reno is flooding before they start to get 8-13 inches. 30 flights have been cancelled today and more tomorrow. Glad not leaving today:eek:

We are just hiding out watching the storm. If as predicted(and what it is doing now) to be the 3rd largest storm ever recorded in the last 100 years:sad2: This is a sign we are making the right bdecision to get out of the snow zone.

Maria: I am game for a walkers meet at 4:00pm at Pop before the big meet. With over 100 people it will be a little overwhelming trying to find everyone.

Stac: Watch out over the next few days.

Stay warm and safe Robert, Linda and Stacey. It got up to the 20s here today. I think the high yesterday was about 12, but they are talking 50s for early next week. I don't know about others, but its seems pretty cold and snowy with all this global warming I keep hearing about.

Robert (or anyone else)--I think I asked this before, but I wanted to get your opinion. If I am considering signing up for the 2009 Goofy :scared1: , should I do it on line ASAP or do you think it is safe to wait for the Employee/DVC application. I know it filled quick this year and I think 2009 is the 5th anniversary, which may entice more to sign up. I would like to save the few dollars if I can, but I do not want to risk missing out if I decide to go the Goofy route. Thanks for any advice you may have.

Robert, Linda and Stacey--Stay warm and safe. Its been pretty cold here in New England (highs in the single digits and teen yesterday and the day before), but it is slowly warming (near 30 today) and they are talking about the 50s early next week.

Robert (and/or anyone else)--I think I've asked this before, but if I were to plan on signing up for the Goofy in 2009, do you think its safe to wait for the Employee/DVC application or should I sign up on-line ASAP. I know it closed quick this year. Also, is 2009 the 4th or 5th? I am all for saving a few dollars, but I don't want to miss out if I decide to go the Goofy route. Thanks for any advice you may have.

Oh, and Maria--Go Celts. Quite a turn around from the past 20 or so seasons isn't it. Who would have thought that replacing several former direct out of high school players with two perenial All-Stars would make such a difference.

Bill: 09 Goofy will be #4. I would(should) have been doing #3 in 08. I am going to wait for DVC discount. I will be on top of Disney the Monday after the race to get it ASAP. You have a few weeks after it opens.

Go for it in 09!

Well, the snow isn't here yet from this storm, but the wind sure is! I just hope it doesn't interfere with getting out on Wednesday. Oh well, at least I have a couple of days give in the getting there plans in case I get delayed.

I was happy to read on other threads about everyone's nervous excitement about the races! My body seems to be subconsciously reacting to my excitement, and keeps waking me up at 3 am! Of course, the wind isn't helping!

Only a few more days to go! Stay healthly everyone!

Miranda and I do not have wish shirts but I think I'll pin some lime green ribbon on our #'s so we can be found.

I hope to meet up with some of you next week, we'll hunt some of you down so we can at least meet and say hi!.

Dave I'll send you a PM with our cell numbers since you seem to be the "ring leader".
