Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Happy New Year to everyone!

I did my 10-miler yesterday and I gotta tell you – it was AWFUL! The after effects, that is. I was able to complete the miles with a 14 minute pace (which is good) but my feet were killing me afterwards – tendonitis issues. I can’t figure out why they started hurting now though. I did 22 miles last weekend and even though I was a little sore and tired, I didn’t feel too badly like I did after my 10-miler. Also, my upper back started hurting a little too. And my hips. And my left hamstring and behind my left knee. I’m falling apart. Whaaaaaaa! I sure hope this isn’t a sign of things to come for the marathon. :scared: I honestly don’t think I could have completed another mile.

Nancy – I was going to report that my back is much better (thanks for asking) but it did start hurting again yesterday after my 10-miler. However, the pain is minor compared to what it was a few weeks ago, knock on wood. Easy fix for the back – muscle relaxers that the doctor prescribed a few weeks ago. Not so easy fix on the feet.

By the way, congrats on your 10-miler. :thumbsup2

Jeanne – congrats on your 10-miler. :thumbsup2 I’m with you on the marathon issue. This may be my one and only. We’ll see.

PandaDave – I’m sorry about the mis-information on Lenscrafters as well. When we lived in Little Rock, we used Lenscrafters and always had good service. I hope your business picks up soon. As others have mentioned, sales are down in a lot of areas. :guilty:

Denise – I’m with you on all the money that we’ve already put out. I feel like I have so much invested in all of the this that we can’t back out now even though it’s going to cost us an arm and a leg after it’s all over with.

Connie – just wanted to let you know that my DH, Steve, and I are considering doing the OK City half or marathon relay next April. If I don’t do the Minnie (which is highly doubtful at this point), we’ll definitely be doing this.

Robert – Oh, no! Everything happening at once! Sending you and Linda some major :wizard: for the upcoming year. Sometimes change can be good. Here’s hoping that this new year brings good opportunities your way and better health. Also, sending you some :wizard: for you to be able to get out of Denver next week!

Kim – hope your shoes continue to work for you. I’m considering getting new shoes in the next few days. I hate getting them this late in the game but I fear that my current shoes are starting to break down sooner than they should.

Nancy and Jeanne - I've been meaning to ask you ladies if I can hang around you some during the marathon if my W/R partner decides she can't participate. I seem to be at about the pace you are currently doing. What corral are you ladies in?

Happy New Year to all! See you all next week.

That would be wonderful to see some more Wish faces in OKC! Kathy (Katwalks) will be there too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Since we didn't go out anywhere last night and our only celebration we did was drink wine I got up early and went and did 3.4 walk outside. It was 41 degrees and the sun was actually shining. I did a 3 mile speed walk and the rest was just a slow cooldown walk back home. A cool front is coming back later today, but by the weekend it is to be up in the 40's so I should be able to do my last LW which is only 6 miles outside. I have really lucked out for most of my LW, I think the only one I was forced to do on the TM was the 14miler.

Robert--- I'm so sorry that the year is ending badly for you. Sending PD your way for you and Linda to have a better 2008. pixiedust:

Susie-- We are in Corral G and you are more than welcome to walk with us. We are planning to just do a 15 minute/mile so that we can finish this darn thing. I think all of us have had one really bad LW so this one is yours. Mine and Jeanne's were our 18 miler. I know that I feel like my body is falling apart from all this training. I think some of my elderly patients have less aches and pains than I do at this stage of training. My feet are killing me except for some strange reason when I wear the sneakers that I do my walks in. I am going to buy another pair of those sneakers just to wear around as I have the other pair just right for the marathon or at least they seem ok. All other shoes/sandals/older sneakers are killing my feet when I wear them. Now being a nurse and on my feet for hours doesn't help. Was there a full week between your LW? If it was less time than a week maybe that contributed to your stocker walk. Glad that your back is doing better. I'm sure that the excitement on race day will get us all through the race.

My big concern is getting to Florida for the race and that we don't have a major snow storm when I am ready to fly out. The PA Farm show is Jan 5-12 and that week usually has bad weather so I am hoping that at least on Jan 11th the weather is good enough to fly. The heck with the money portion, after all this training, I don't want to miss being at the starting line on race day.

Curious what New Year food traditions are in other areas of the country. Our area we are having Pork and Saurekraut, it is a PA German tradition and brings good luck.

Have a good day everyone.

Nancy

Hi Pretty Princesses:flower3: Happy New Year.

Hi Robert and any other guys still on the walking thread.

Is it just me or did the server change stop the posts showing up on our email? Did I make the Tag Fairy mad? Just because I din't follow the proper dress code for typing at the keyboard.:snooty:

I think I will catch the Tag Fairy and make her give me three wishes.

Hi Dave: I am lurking and watching football:thumbsup2

As for flights out of DIA, Stac is on the same flight. They moved it up so we will landing earlier(3:41). All we need to do is go to International Gateway and get our new passes and DDE cards and we will be set for evening libations:woohoo:

Robert when are you guys flying out, we fly outta DIA on Sat 1/5 at 8:35.

Bummer on the year end, but I am a believer in Karma and you guys have a ton of good in ya and it will work out.

Trying to put together a calander of meets events etc etc etc and actually packing.

Nancy - we eat pork for properity, cabbage (yuck!) for money, and black-eyed peas. Not sure what the black-eyed peas will do for me but I don't dare break the tradition. ;)

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO MY WISH FRIENDS!!!!

Robert so sorry to hear about your troubles for the end of 2007, all the best to you and Linda in 2008!!!!!

Dave: Yes, I did change the brand of my shoes. I was wearing Brooks which I loved but I couldn't find the type I liked so I bought a pair of Saucony's which I tought where better....they sure cost alot more...but I will go back to Brooks they worked for me.

Mike and I are considering the Virginia Beach Rock N Roll 1/2 in late Aug...it is during the Labour Day weekend so no extra days off work.

Have a great day, switching between a ton of bowl games, and the outdoor hockey game in Buffalo....man I need more TV's, all in the same room....lol

Have a super day all.

Kim

Thanks Scott :)

We arrive at MCO on 1/9 at 3:41 and leave on 1/21 at 2:45 pm(which means 11:45 am for ME)

I know a group of us are meeting up for beverages at BW on 1/9 & 1/10 after packet pickup.

Kim: I have the same problem in that 1 TV doesn't cut it on New Years Day.

Susie: We eat pork but will have to go to the store tomorrow for some cabbage. I am going to need to eat a lot;)

I too had purchased new sneakers at the end of summer and starting my running program. I blamed by shins on running when in fact it was the sneakers. $95 while is not an enormous amount was still a lot and I gave them away. I went back and bought my Nike cross trainers and when looking at Dave's original post about Sneakers not needed breaking in, I never had to break in my other Nike's or these, just lace and walk.

Mark and I did 3 miles today before the snow started. It was very nice, a bit cool to start but the fresh air felt good.

At times I think, it will be fine and I'll manage the 13.1 miles with no problem and at others I think, Oh God, will I ever make it beyond 8 or 9.

We have no traditions in our family - we used to get Chinese food but have not done that for a few years. I made a large roast last night and we stayed in. It was perfect. Today Miranda brought over Lasagna and rolls with some fab dessert so we'll be eating quite well.

Back to work tomorrow :( but the weekend isn't far off and next week I have only 3 days till we leave. Have been putting aside all my training clothes that I want to bring so I don't have to search for them at the last minute. All will be carried on the plane to make sure they make it.

We leave Thursday morning. All of us. Nervous, excited and happy that all our training is hopefully worth the effort.

Have a good rest of the day. I too have not been getting my emails but check my CP regularly to make sure I haven't missed anything.

Take care

denise

Snowing again in NH 6-10 inches today UGG!

A HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR WISH TO EVERYONE.

I am still hanging around lurking.

I think with the board change, the instant notifications were turned off. I went to my set up and re-selected same. I'll see if that works.

If I don't "talk" to people before they leave, safe travels to WDW and good luck. I hope everyone has fun.

Quick question to the hardcore training princesses--Do any of you think pilates or similar exercises would be helpful for a "large-framed" guy who meeds to work on getting back some flexibility, core strength, etc.? I am trying to find some type of low impact exercise to help with my back and hips. TIA

Hi Bill, how ya doing my friend? I was hoping you would hang around even if you were not doing the half this trip. Someone has to help me keep the gang in line. The princesses are quite mischevious don't cha know.

We just took a total rest day today. Back at it tomorrow though. Have to be treadmill and pool, it's blue flipping cold out there. I know you northern gals think I'm a wuss.

Walk strong y'all.

It's all what we're used to. If it's above 75 during the 1/2 I'm going to melt! My husband is usually cold and today was no exception, I on the other hand was fine the whole way. His hands and feet were so cold and mine were toasty, I"m the oven in the family and so is my son we just radiate heat.

When we walk if it's below 45 degrees I wear gloves the whole time, Erica might start out with them if it's below 40 degrees but they come off pretty quick. With the ears we are just the opposite. I never wear ear cover and she has to have her ears covered below 40 degrees.

My pretty princess is also a hot chick, especially when she gets a hot flash while we are snuggled up asleep.

Morning WISH Walkers

It's 15 degrees here with a chill factor down to 3 degrees, think I'm ready for a trip to Disney?

It's 18 here with a chill factor of 12. :cold: It's going to get colder in the overnight hours tonight. :scared1:

It's really annoying not getting any email notifications.....does anyone know when the boards will be back to normal?

Susie: of course you can hang out with us....the more the merrier. As Nancy mentioned, we are in Corral G (2nd from the last). Dave, Erica, Pat and Kathy will be there also so we will have lots of good company. I'm not going for an impressive time. I just want to finish with a little bit of a cushion. We're aiming for a 15 minute mile in the first half so we have a little slack in the second half. I have a tendency to go out hard from the get-go so I need all you ladies to pace me. I'd rather finish with a slower time and feel good afterward then go out full force and end up hitting the wall.

I did a nice easy 2.25 mile walk yesterday....no Garmin, no looking at the watch. At this point I just want to keep the joints lubricated. Today will be water aerobics again. They are predicting possible flurries in NC today....we'll see if that happens.

Nancy: no special New Years tradition for us. My mom used to always do the roast pork thing, but she wasn't German. We went to a party yesterday so just had nibbles for dinner. I never made it to midnight the day before. I fell asleep at around 10:30! We still have our unopened bottle of Asti!

Well woke up this morning and it is -20 C not sure what that is in F, but it is damn cold....can't wait to get some of that Florida sunshine!!!!!

Kim I'm not sure if we should call this trip a vacation or an escape.

Ok here is the plan, we catch Mickey and hold him hostage and make them put us up till spring or we feed him to the Boogie Beast from the ToT.

Erica and I have decided not to do the Minnie in May so we can get some other issues handled. But we plan to do the Tower of Terror in Oct.
