Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I just posted this on the weekly thread, but wanted to let you guys know as well (for those who don't venture over there).

To update, things have been getting a little better with the back, but I am still having problems with it. As a result, most of my training since late October has been strength training and cardio on a recumbant bike or eliptical machine. Given that the half marathon is in a little over five weeks and I don't even have a walking base to rely upon, I have decided to abandon attempting the WDW half in 2008 so as not to risk further or new injuries.

I do plan to continue trying to get and stay healthy though and to participate in half and full marathons in the future, including WDW in 2009 (Goofy?). Its just taking my body longer to adjust/correct itself than I hoped. I'll still be here to keep you all honest and to keep Penguin-Pal, Packet-Deprived Pussin' Panda in line though. I greatly appreciate all the encouragement and support the WISH team has extended me thus far and I will see you guys at start and finish lines somewhere in the near future.

Bill: As I sent to you, I think this is a good decision as there are plenty more races. Keep up the good work and let us know how it goes.

BTW, Congrats again on ToT:)

Ahh Bill that's a bummer. Sorry to hear. It was nice meeting you at the TOT race and I looked forward to seeing you in January.

But, you made the right decision.

enjoy,
Duane

Oh, Bill, my big green man.....I am so sorry to hear you won't be joining us. :sad1: We will certainly miss you but, as always, your health must come first.

Bill:hug:

Glad to hear your back is starting to feel better, but so sorry you won't be joinning us in January. You will surely be missed, however you can't risk further injury to your back.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are feelling and hope to see you at the Goofy!!!!!!!

Speaking of Goofy, Robert you will probably know the answer to this, when was the first year of the Goofy????

Kim

Hey Walkers. I have neglected our thread for the last few days, sorry.

My foot is better, still not 100% but much better, the Goofy is beginning to look possible again.

Hope everyone is doing good, did everyone survive the week?

Packet Craving Panda:hippie:

Hey Dave I was wondering where everyone went!!!!!

The last post was mine yesterday morning, I thought you all had a new place to hang out but no one was telling me where to find ya:scared1:

Glad to hear the foot is getting better, no doubt you will be able to finish the goofy!!!!

Pretty quiet weekend coming up, which is nice cause between now and when we leave for Disney it will be crazy!!!!!hummmmmm what will I be doing 5 weeks from right now????? Maybe some DTD, depending on the weather hanging out at the pool, getting ready to see all my friends at POP at 4PM!!!!!

Kim

:wave2: Kim. I am still lurking around. No training, per se, to report, so I just follow the Copyright Infringing Panda around trying to keep him honest.

Oh my gosh, Bill!!! Talk about a full time job!!! Good luck with that!:lmao:

DH has to see a neurosurgeon. In the meantime, we are waiting on word from the Physical therapist for when all that begins.

I am doing the Enchanted Christmas Lights 5K (it's called something like that, anyway) tomorrow night. I am looking forward to it. Filled my Shuffle with Christmas songs! Ho Ho Ho!:santa:

I've been here but just back from vacation is tough and today we had our Christmas luncheon so I left the office at 11:30 and now I'm home for the weekend. One Margarita and some GREAT food later and I'm all set for another year. My work is still piling up and I have the week between Christmas and New Years off so I need to get caught up!

Tomorrow Mark and I will do a 6 miler - depending on the temp. We have done no long walks since Disney last week so we really need to do that.

One of my fellow runners is feeling pangs of backing out. She did our local 1/2 marathon and did it quite well but is really burnt out and the fact that all our roads are snow covered with no sidewalks to run on makes things rather dreary. We will walk in an Industrial area on the weekend so it won't be too busy. Another co-worker told me to use the cemetary as they are plowed which I never thought of. She takes her 3 Jack Russell's there for their workout.

NONE of us want to work on the TM - I don't mind it for 3 or 4 miles but beyond that, BLAH.

If you don't see me here this weekend it's because I'm too ashamed to show my face for lack of training!:guilty:

Oh well, back to the couch to watch the tube, I'm not in the mood to do much more, Anybody want to come to NH to slap some sense into us? Maybe I shouldn't have said that, Bill lives in Mass, a bit too close for comfort!

When the Boogie Man goes to bed at night he checks his closet for Bill.

I've been good about staying out of trouble. If I don't get my darn packet soon though I'm going to have release some stress.

Good morning walker friends.

Today is official talk mean about the woman who's job it is to get the race packets in the mail. I'll start by giving you a review of her year.

Packet mailer's year in Review:

January - Took her new scarf back to the store because it was too tight.

February - Ordered new drapes for her computer because it had windows.

March - Got excited when she finished a jigsaw puzzle in 6 months because the box said "2-4 years."

April - Was trapped on an escalator for hours when the power went out.

May - Couldn't make Kool-Aid because 8 cups of water wouldn't fit into the little packet.

June - Couldn't learn to water ski because she couldn't find a lake with a slope

July - After losing in a breast stroke swimming competition, complained to the judges that the other swimmers were using their arms.

August - Told her blonde friend to hurry when trying to get into their locked car using a coat hanger because it was starting to rain and the top was down.

September - When asked what the capital of California was: answered "C "

October - Hates M &M's because they are so hard to peel.

November - Baked a turkey for 4 days because the instructions said 1 hour per pound and she weighed 120.

December - Couldn't call 911 because there was no "11" on any phone button.

Ok I'm off to take my packetless butt for a walk. I wonder if my shame will be noticeable. "Look that him, (singing), "He ain't got no packet", the crulty of some people". I think I'm getting a complex, is there a thearipist in the house?

Does my packet miss me to, Panda:guilty:

Hi Everyone I got back from WDW around 11:30pm last night. I really hated to leave since it was 81 degrees and sunny and I knew I was coming back to cold and snow. We didn't park in the garage at the airport since I had a coupon for the express parking which pick you up and drop you off right at your car. So of course our SUV was covered in snow with no ice scraper. We used our hands to get it off the windows and let the rest blow off as we drove home.

Norm golfed twice and I managed to get in my 2 LW while he was golfing. The 8 miler was fine, but this weeks 18 miler was horrible. At mile 10 I started with a tightness in my right upper leg which just kept getting tighter like I had a vice grip going the entire way around the upper leg. I tried stretching, taking more advil and resting for a short period of time but nothing would loosen it up. It was so painful I was nearly in tears and I really thought about taking a bus from SSR to DTW and back to OKW. However, I managed to walk back to OKW and I finally quit after walking for 4 hrs and 30 minitues and having done nearly 17 miles. I was really disappointed at myself, but physically I couldn't do the full 18 miles. Took a hot shower, more drugs and then we went to MVMCP that night so I did get in a total of 19 miles for the day. I know it not the way to do it but it was all I could manage.

I think it is my sciatic nerve acting up as the pain is similiar to what I have had in the past. I did the hot tub several times after that long walk to try to loosen everything up and did manage another 3 miler but still have the tighness thing happening. Since not walking much doesn't happen at WDW I am not doing any training until Monday hoping that being home I can avoid alot of walking the next 2 days and give my body a chance to heal. I was so hoping that the 18 miler would go as well as my 16 miler did. Now that I am back home in the cold and snow I am sure not looking forward to doing the 20 miler which more than likely will be on the TM.

Jeanne-- Gosh you are really becoming quite the speed walker. You put me to shame. At this point I will be happy if I can manage to finish the marathon in the 7 hrs.

Dave---Is it just you that hasn't gotten your packet? Did Erica get hers. Mine was in the pile of mail waiting for me when I got home.

Bill---Sorry about your back and not being able to do the half this year. However, your health is much more important.

Denise--- I'm with you it is such a bummer to come back to snow and cold. I just love all the Christmas events this time of year. However, we never did make it back to MGM to see the Harlem Gospel Singers. Were you able to see them.

Connie---What is wrong with your DH? I think I missed that.

Got to go start my laundry and then off to get groceries.

Nancy

Welcome back Nancy, we missed your sweet witty posts.

Erica and I are leaving for Gattlinburg early in the morning so if y'all don't hear from us till next wed we are ok.

Bill is looking at a new career scalping half marathon numbers. I think that makes him a bookie or something.

Robert got his packet yesterday and I'm still without, I feel so tender and violated without a packet. Is there a support group for packetless people?

I can see it now, "I didn't get a packet in the mail, but I'm registered". Evil race registration troll, "LOL, get your inferior butt over there, we will deal with you when the REAL marathoners are checked in". "And don't sit on our furniture either you skum".

Y'all have a super weekend.

Tender amd Violated Panda:guilty:

Welcome back, Nancy......I missed you.
Still no packet for me yet although John and Jason got theirs today. John is 35,000 something for the half and Jason is 12,000 something for the full. I actually called Marathon Tours and Travel yesterday about the packets and they said that Disney sends them out directly. I noticed that Jenni registered with her Michigan address so maybe hers arrived there. Right now she is out of town, so I can't check until Monday. What is your bib #, Nancy?
My 18-miler was also a killer....and I only made it to 17.5. Then I collapsed in front of my car and my legs were shaking so badly, it took me about 5 minutes to get up. I left food and Powerade in my car and took them at each 5-mile interval. I was going nice and steady at a 15 minute pace. Then I hit a little hill just before 14 and just didn't have the strength to attack it. I stopped and that was the kiss of death for me. At 15.5 I had to stop again and this time I sat on the ground. Two people came by and offered assistance. I got up but it was start and stop the whole way. I even had to run into a sales office and gasp for water. When I reached my car again it was exactly 17.5 and I was done. Normally I would have circled the parking lot just to get the extra 1/2 mile. Luckily, John had decided to meet me to see if he could get in a few miles of his own. That was when I just plopped down on the ground and couldn't get up. I think my electrolytes get out of whack when I go the long distances. I'll be fine and all of a sudden, I lose it. Last week I was so strong at the half-marathon, but my last 2 long walks have been failures. The last good one I had was a 16-miler 4 weeks ago. I am getting very scared. Good God, Nancy, how are we ever going to do this?

Well you see my face (sort of) here because Mark and I went out this morning and did our 6.1 miles. Which for all of you 18 milers is nothing but for us to do it in the cold and not feel bad was a great success. The route we took is hilly and tough. I did not time it but was back in the car at a reasonable time.

I'm still having sneaker trouble so I think I will go back to the store and get my original Nike's that I started with last January. I never had a problem with them and the ones I wore today were not great. The were also mostly mesh so my toes were cold. We really felt good after our walk. The fresh air was really nice. One of the longest stretches of the route is along a lake that our city uses for our water supply. Very quiet and not too much traffic since there are no sidewalks.

I'm taking tomorrow off to do stuff, drinking a margarita tonight and putting up my mini christmas tree. I have about 3 dozen little mickey ornaments to hang on it. Cute as anything and it takes about 20 min to set up.

I did not see the gospel singers while in Disney. I can certainly sympathize with you Nancy about the snow as when we landed in NH last Sunday/Monday it was snowing.

Well I had to finish that tree and the cats are waiting for me to finish too, the tree skirt is the last item to go down and they want the "bed" ready for tonight.

Take care all, and if your in that much pain, you may want to consider a massage to help break up those knots in the parts of the body that are tight. Works for me!

Good morning walker friends.

Today is official talk mean about the woman who's job it is to get the race packets in the mail. I'll start by giving you a review of her year.

Excuse me, but why do you assume that the packet mailer is a women? If it's lost, I'm thinking it may be a man! :rotfl: (As long as we're stereotyping) he probably wouldn't ask for directions! Kidding!

Because Darlin only a woman can give a man this much stress.:flower3:

Packet stressing Panda:eek:

Dave 6 out of 7 of us received our packets while I was in Disney. The ONLY one that didn't was ME! I emailed them the other day and they were quick with their response. I received my packet on Friday. I'm not sure if it was the "replacement' packet or my original on that got sidetracked.

If Erica has her packet, I'd zip them an email.
