Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Hey all!

Did my XT on Friday...went to Wal-mart at 5:15am. I wanted to get a 19" LCD TV that was on sale. I had to push and shove my way to the electronics department only to discover that these TVs were located in the pet food department. Duh! Of course! Why didn't I know that? So, I had to push and shove my way to that area which was on the other side of the store. By the time I got there (something like 20 minutes later) the TVs were all gone. None left. Nada. Zilch. No more. At that point, I had decided that my shopping was over for the day. I some how made it out of the store without any broken bones and little bruising and sorry that I ruined a chance to sleep in. Never again. Maybe. Hopefully. Or, until the memory of this madness escapes me (which will probably come sooner than later. ) Later that day I did some real XT at the gym. :thumbsup2

Jeanne - good for you for trying and getting the 10 miles in. Don't be too hard on yourself. Many people, including me, would not have attempted anything with all you had to do over the last few days. As you stated, you have a cushion built in for situations like this. You can do the 18-miler next week or the week after. I'm also going to do a half next weekend and I'm going to try to do five extra miles that day. I figured it would be easier to do with all the support than without it. Plus, I'll have my walking buddy with me and I won't the next weekend. Another thing to keep in mind is the big goal. That "special" Mickey medal. The WISH team cheering you on. The training is the hard part and, there's not much more to go. We are getting close to the end. We're getting close to winning that medal! We're getting close to saying that we just completed a MARATHON! We're gonna do it!!!!! :cool1: :cheer2:  :woohoo: :thumbsup2 Whew!

Nancy - good for you in getting the 16 miles in...and on TG day!

Dave - are you having piriformis muscle issues by chance? Or is it higher up in the cheek? Glad you are doing a little better.

Robert - sending more :wizard: your way. Do you have a stress fracture in your shins?

Bill - sending :wizard: for your back. I'm sure training is very hard for you and I admire you for doing it.

Scott - sending :wizard: for your pain. I hope it goes away soon.

Denise - hope you are enjoying Disney. I'd rather fight those crowds than the shopping crowds any 'ol day.

Hope everyone has a good, safe, and injury free week. For all those nursing injuries, aches and pains and illnesses - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: coming your way.

Escape: Thanks for the support! Hmmmm, doing 5 more miles AFTER a half marathon sounds like a crazy, but oddly wonderful idea....where would you do it? Sorry you didn't get your TV. Around here some stores opened at 4am and Starbucks opened at 3am so people could at least have their morning coffee while they waited. I feel sorry for the workers. Pretty soon they'll be opening at midnight. Around here the big story was a bunch of college-age kids drove into the Best Buy parking lot at around 4am while people were on line and streaked from one end of the parking lot to the other. :scared1: At least the temps were nice and warm.

I guess in my haste I must have missed some posts. I didn't realize so many of our gallant princes were injured. Please guys, take care of yourselves! We are getting close to race day and need to be in good shape.

Speaking of princes, we all saw "Enchanted" the day after Thanksgiving....it was VERY cute! Very nice spin on the old Disney fairy tales. It is definitely worth seeing.

More good news: I got on the scale today and discovered I did not gain anything over Thanksgiving! One more big holiday to go and then it's back to starvation January!

Susie: I have not been to DR yet as just went to PT for the last 3 weeks. I am scheduling a DR appt to get an xray to make sure nothing else is going on. It will be 4 weeks since the shins got injuried. About time to be better if nothing else is going on.

Thanks all for the positive thoughts. WDW will be tough for some of us:(

Susie, Thanks for the well wishes, lots better today with stretching and some light resistance work. Did a short walk with the pups today and it was good not great but good.

Bummer on the Walmart trip, I bet there will be more sales later this season.

Heal soon, Princes - I'm counting on you to lead the way in January!

Did my first 9-miler today. It went pretty well, but I was 2:30 off race pace per mile. I know the long walk is primarily about endurance, but dang, I don't want to feel the sweepers breathing down my neck before I even cross the start line.

I chickened out on the ice bath afterwards. It was 40 degrees with a brisk breeze, and I felt pretty cold anyway! Maybe next week...uh huh...maybe next week....

Pretty Princess, you are getting a lot stronger. It's slow going at first but the longer you stay with it the faster the changes come. You did nine miles, that is super, next time you go that far it will be easier.:cloud9:

I can't do ice baths either, there are some things that shouldn't get frozen don't cha know:eek: . That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Robert, how come me and you feel like we have been in a flipping war zone and our ladies just keep bouncing along. It's just not fair, we are the strong ones? Whoever called them the weaker sex wasn't married.:rolleyes1

Have an awesome day y'all.

Macho Pandapirate:

Morning everyone. Only 2 more days until I head to WDW so have been working like crazy the past 2 days around the house to get it all done. We did all the house decorating that we are going to do except for a the tree. Having new windows put in near Christmas does help to deter someone from over decorating. My right heel is sore from going up and down those attic steps in sandals. Not one of my smarter ideas. I wore my sneakers to works so I hope that helps.

Susie--- I admire that you even had the courage to go out with the crowd on Black Friday. Glad you were able to get out alive. Last year we went to the outlets for the Midnight Madness sale on Black Friday, yes those stores opened up at Midnight. Just getting to the outlets was madness and then trying to find a parking space. I ended up buying very little. That is the first time I had done Black Friday in years and my last. DS#2 experienced his first Black Friday working in retail, he had to get up at 3am to be at the store by 4:30am. He works in a Sporting Goods store so not as bad as other stores, but it was a long 10 hr day for him.

Jeanne-- Were your ears burning the other day. We were discussing the entire marathon thing at Thanksgiving dinner and Brian asked who's idea was it anyway to do this. I explained that I was a happy little camper just doing my 4 miles walks 4xweek, until you got this great idea and I was caught up in the moment. Somehow someway we will make it to the end and get that medal, I am not doing all this walking to not get that Mickey medal. Because I surely not doing it to have any weight loss. I've gained 10 pounds with all this training, well really not the training but the eating to be able to keep up the training. I'm impressed that you got in a 10 miler with such a busy schedule. With the cushion you built into your schedule you have time to get your 18 miler. You are doing great. Good luck to you and John this weekend with your half. Hope you get to meet up with other WISHers.

Robert--- I tried the Sport Jelly Beans for the first time when I did my LW this week. I did think it helped to keep my energy up, especially after I had drank all my diluted sports drink by mile 10 and only had water left. I am so hungry when I am finished with my LW, I stopped at a convience store and bought cheese/bologna to eat. I know by mile 14 I am going to be starved, I keep asking my family to be there with a burger and diet Pepsi for me, but I know that isn't going to happen.

Dave--- I think of a ice bath the same as jump into freezing water in Jan like those Polar Bear people. Not doing either one.

Sending more Pixie dust to all our wounded Princes. pixiedust:

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Good Morning everyone!!!!!

Sorry I have been away all weekend, but Xmas shopping is done.....whewwwww actually what took the longest is buying DD a dress for her Xmas party at work.....OMG.....she tried on every dress in the mall and ended up buying one at the first store we went to, but didn't want to try on cause she didn't think the color was "her" but it looks beautiful a little short for Dad's liking but I think it would have to be floor lengh for him to approve;)

Sorry to hear so many of you are fighting aches and pains, I hope you are all feeling better soon.

Anyone else in Corral C????? I hope we aren't alone there. I was hoping to be in B and back at teh back of the pack but I guess I will try for the front of C. As far away from the sweepers as possible works for me:)

Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend!!!

Kim

Wow, Nancy, I totally forgot you are going to WDW again this week! And then back again in January.......I hope this time you get Magical Experience or whatever it is they call those special perks. John and I have never gotten any, but when Jason was there for spring break with his college buddies, they all got Dream Fastpasses at AK. Have a fabulous time!

Kim: how did you find out your corral? I haven't gotten my package yet.
Kudos to you for getting all the shopping done. I wish I could say the same thing, but I basically haven't even started except for a few little things I picked up here and there. Training and shopping do not go well together.

I hope all our handsome princes are feeling better today

Speaking of Polar Bears, that will be my next endeavor. My sister did it last year somewhere near Albany (where it is very cold on New Years Day) and plans to do it again this year. She asked me if I wanted to fly up for it, but I declined with the marathon being so soon afterward. Maybe next year.......:scared1:

If Jeanne gets in a bikini and "jumps"....... chances are she won't be in the bikini anymore. :scared1: :rotfl2: A regular "grandma" suit will do fine, thank-you. :thumbsup2

MMMMMMMMMMM Coolpopcorn::

Where is this again?

Can we talk Nancy into skinny dipping withyou?:3dglasses

Ok back to business here, stop that teasing us with the naughty visuals. You northern princesses, what is one to do with y'all.

Erica and I did 3.25 miles. We were scheduled for 9. We set off for 9 and about 1.5 miles in it started raining, hard. The weather was 50s with wind so once we were soaked to the skin we started getting chilled. We finished the loop and called it a day.

My **** is better, but I'm icing that sore area on the side of my foot under the ankle bone.

Erica says we have some play in our training schedule so we will be fine.

The funny thing is the chocolate lab is better at weather prediction than the weather man. The weather man said the rain was gone from the area, but the weather wuss lab wouldn't get out from under the bed. She stays under the bed during storms.

YOU can talk to Nancy......I have a sneaky suspicion she doesn't want to hear any more of MY ideas! :rotfl:

The only ideas I am following of Jeanne's from now on, are if it involves alcohol and food and no physical exertion required.

Jeanne--- Are you going to be watching Dancing With the Stars tonight. Marie had better be gone first thing on Tuesday. If she wins I am screaming so loud you will hear me in NC.

Nancy

I was hoping to watch it live so I could vote for Helio but I may be doing an airport run at that time. John isn't home this evening and Adam's 6:45 flight is now tenatively scheduled for 9:20. Apparently there is alot of bad weather in the NYC area. I'm hoping they will give extra time because it's the finals.

Wow! Ya'll have been busy! I have been outta touch. We went to Missouri for Thanksgiving and I am still having back issues. I have to get some activity in, we (hubby and I) are doing a Chirstimas Lights race in less than 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear all the Princes are feeling glum. Hope you all feel better soon!

I officially entered the Oklahoma City Half Marathon in April. I am pretty excited about it. I may end up doing it solo, but that will be okay. I like my own company!

Good luck with the training everyone. You must be so excited to be heading back to WDW so soon!

Hi Connie, welcome back from the wilds of Missouri. We missed you princess.

Erica and I are going to attempt another walk in a bit. Hopefully we won't get drenched today, just frozen. Oh the pleasures of the road.:rolleyes1

Have an awesome day y'all.

Question for those who live in the frozen north - what do you wear for shoes in inclement weather? I used to wear hiking boots, but they are really worn out and now have so many holes that they leak more than the mesh running shoes. So, I have been wearing my regular running shoes, but my feet get rather cold with the wind whistling thru the mesh. I have not been able to find a decent pair of running shoes that are leather, or at least are not covered with mesh fabric. I really do not want to spend the money for a pair of goretex hiking boots. Any suggestions?
PS - I walk dogs, so I do need to get outside for walks daily, and not rely on the treadmill, at least until I train the dogs to walk on the treadmill also!:rotfl2:

Scott, I have a pair of Adidas Gore-Tex running shoes. They work really well. I run in the snow with them and they keep my feet dry and toasty. I think I got them from Sahalie.com  It has been awhile as I only use them on days that I can stand to go outside to run and not XC ski!!

Hi.

I recommend the NB 790. It's a trail racing flat, they are pretty waterproof and very comfortable. They have a low heel and good support in a netural shoe. They are $49.95 at the Finish line stores and come in a 4 colors and trim. One is light gray with WISH color trim. I used them as my walking shoes for WDW and I wear them on rainy days.
