Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Good morning guys.

Erica is planning to wear the sandals for at least one of the races of he Goofy maybe both. She says they are comfortable and they will certainly keep her feet cool and there is lots of toe room. The heels are low and they are padded and flexiable so they should do fine. She did a 10 miler in them yesterday.

Nancy Erica gets a pedi every other week when she gets her nails done, she is such a girl, but she wears her bamboo socks with the sandals when she is training. She wears them sockless when we are just out and about.

The bamboo socks are Addidas brand and are supposed to be softer than cotton and anti blister like the synthetics. I found them at Hibbits Sports and she likes them. We are always looking for new things to try.

I'm off to walk, have an awesome day y'all.

Jeanne and Nancy - I'd hardly call that kid a suitor, nor would I say he was attracted - he was just looking for someone else! But I can say I wish I DID look like Demi Moore! LOL!

We have two children. DS is 29, DD is 24. DS lives in South Carolina where is just finishing a tour as a drill instructor for the Army. He is divorced and remarried, and his two oldest sons live in Virginia Beach. Fortunately, we have a cordial relationship with his ex, so we get to see the kids whenever we can get out there. He has the newest grandson (8 months old) with his second wife with him in SC. However, he will be in training in Missouri when we get there in November. Dang it! DD is closer, about an hour away, so we get to see her two sons more often. Grandsons are 7, 4, 3, 1 and 8 months! We are torn - we'd like to have a granddaughter, but we kind of hope our kids are done having kids!

I'm glad Erica's feeling better. Sounds like a ways to go, though, before she's all healed up. Please give her my best, Dave!

I did water aerobics yesterday. I just love that class! Today is a rest day for me, which is good, because I have lots of non-training stuff going on. Work is going better for me this week, so I am not coming home and refusing to move until I can move to the bed! LOL!

I got Connie's and my Magic Express stuff in the mail yesterday! :dance3: Yippee!!! Connie will be driving here the day before we leave and we'll both fly out of Colorado Springs. Of course, I called her right away and we spent an hour or so discussing our upcoming trip and wishing it were sooner! I am so anxious to go!

You all make a great day!

Kathy

Goood Morning team!!!!

Got my 6K in last night......just under 49 mins. Wahoooo

Kathy Yipppeeeee Magical express stuff is in that means the trip is getting sooooo much closer!!!!!

Nancy Carlos and Charlies, in Cozumel???? I am definatley a froo froo drink girl, love the margaritias at Senor Frogs in Nassau, but I am always a good girl on cruises, don't drink to much for one it costs a fortune and 2nd if I make a wrong turn it is a long way down......

Dave and Erica Have a awesome walk. Our temps have turned warm here again.

Kim

I did 2.25 miles at 12:48 per mile pace then some pool running and upper body work then soaked and stretched in the hot whirlpool. Temp was in the 60s. Good workout but a cutback day since I did 8 on monday and 10 yesterday.

Nancy, kathy, Connie, Jeanne and Kim I can't wait to meet you guys. When I met the WISH group in January at Pop, Erica and I had just started posting on the wish site and we really didn't know anyone or them us. Had they known what a motor mouth I was on here they would probably sent me to the wrong place to meet.:upsidedow

When we did the Marathon, we met lots of WISH People during the race and there were lots of WISH shirts on the sidelines cheering us. We decided we wanted to be part of this awesome group.

Dave:hippie:

Wow Dave: your times are great and after and 8 and 10 mile walk? Zowie!

I have started to jog a little and for this 53 year old who has never run except when I was playing tag as a child it's a big deal for me. I did a mile on the tm last actually I was doing times so it was longer than that because I am doing 15 min jogging and then will add 5 min to that next week. Then we go outside for our 3 mile walk. It's a great way to warm up for me. Mark was doing the ellip while I did the tm. Tonight we'll switch if his foot is better, he has a blister - go figure after all these months of walking. I'll do the ellip and he'll do the tm.

Friday is our off day and then back at it on Saturday.

The heat here is not too bad, it was actually below 50 yesterday morning so that was GREAT. Perfect for me. It gets up into the 80's during the day but low humidity. By night when we do our walks it's not too hot but mild enough we can go without jackets.

I need new sneakers so I enjoy reading about all your recommendations, that will be my project this weekend.

Have a good day all!

denise

Denise it's wonderful that you and Mark can share your exercise time. The time I spend on the walks with Erica are the best. We have great conversations or we can both get lost in our iPods and just zone. Either way it's all good. When your best friend is also your mate you are double blessed.

We went out together tuesday but we are stil dealing with that tooth infection. A specialist did a root cannel yesterday and next week they redesign the bridge. Some time the fun just doesn't end.

I hope everyone is doing good and is happy today, if your not happy tell us we will make you happy. I'll do laps around your office in a gumby suit or something.

Off to walk.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning, team!

Denise: jogging a full mile is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! Really, that is no small accomplishment. I have tried adding a little jogging to my routine and the most I can handle is about 1/4 mile at a single stretch. It does speed up my time, but sometimes I think the extra stress on by body makes it too hard to recover. Almost 20 years ago, I had back surgery and the doctor said to lay off the jogging because I was carrying around too much weight. He would definitely not approve of me doing it now as I was a good 60 pounds lighter then!

More pixie dust to Erica and her tooth.

Today is an XT day......off to play 9 holes of golf.

Morning everyone.

Denise--- That is great that you can jog a full mile. I can only manage 1/4 mile and am similiar to Jeanne it seems like it takes me a long time to recover. For the small amount of jogging I do, I think I will just stick with the walking. Good for you.

Dave--- That was quite the pace with your walk. With jogging I couldn't even go that fast. Sorry that Erica is still dealing with the tooth. Pixie dust to her. pixiedust:

Kim--- I have also been to Senor Frogs in Cozumel. You can get your Carlos and Charlie yard long glass refilled at Senor Frogs. I think the same company owns both. Your race is getting close.

Kathy--- Thanks to your DS for serving his country. I got my ME last week. It does make the trip seem much closer. I love ME, we haven't rented a car since the program was started.

Jeanne--- Good luck golfing.

Training I did stretch class and then 4 miles on TM. Tonight will be another 3 miles and pump class.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Good morning Guys, and Pretty Princesses.

I went out for a 4.5 miler on the WKU hills this moning. It was a beautiful 57 degrees, warm sun and clear crisp day. I breezed through it in 58:48, not to fast but very pleasent.

Learn to harness the awesome power of your dreams.

DAve:hippie:

Wow, no one posted since yesterday morning.

Training report from yesterday. 3 miles on TM and then pump class. My legs were really tired after that. Today will be a rest day and tomorrow will be my LW.

Jeanne-- Endless shoes doesn't have my size in the brown Yucatan sandals. I just got a coupon code from shoeby for $10 off which is good for 30 days and they do have them in stock. I am stopping after to work to see if I can get any credit for the sneakers I bought at the running store, that are just not working and then get another pair of Saucony. So once the sneaker situation is resolved am ordering the Yucatan sandals. I want them to wear at Disney.

Nancy

Well I was extremely tired last night and we have had a bit of stress on the home front this past week so I am having a lot of sleepless nights so that is not helping. I did come home and rest for ½ an hour and then went on the ellip and Mark did the TM he did 20 min jogging. I am trying to set a slow pace so that I can get him to slow down. He’s like a jack rabbit and I just can’t do that. I did the ellip for 30
and only 15 min of TM work cause I was just too tired but a total of 45 min workout is good enough for me.

When I went at my pace a very slow jog, slower than Dave’s walking I was able to do it just fine. The TM lets me set a pace of 4.2. or 4.3 to get my rhythm. I have to tell my brain to tell my legs – shins to RELAX. I seem to stress and it goes right to my shins. Once I learned to relax and just keep MY pace I was able to go around the track twice and then did almost a whole mile jogging on the dirt trail at the park. The mile I was able to do was after a 6 min warm up and then a 4.2 pace on the TM – ideal conditions.

Mark & I signed up for the Police road race for the fallen. It’s a 5K on October 14th. A good cause and WALKER FRIENDLY!! I think the rest of the family will follow along too.

Today is my off day as I have Quilt Guild meeting tonight with friends so I am very happy about that. Have a great one all. Will try and post over the weekend. My goal is to do 20 min jog, at least 5 mile walk and buy some new sneakers.

Hey I am here, sorry was off the computer almost all of yesterday!!!

How is everyone doing?

Have any of you decided on halloween costumes for ToT???? I was out looking yesterday, but most of the premade costumes for adults are just a little sleazy for Disney:scared1: :scared1:

Yikes, just called to the front of the office, birthday celebration ....be back soon

Kim

Good morning everyone:

Back update--latest test results confirmed my suspiscions that the latest back spasming episode realligned the lumbar discs again. Herniated disc sitting on nerves and another one protruding again. Not the first time, but out of PT visits for the year. Back doctor doesn't think walking will cause further problems if I use good form.

So, new plan is to increase core exercises at home to try and pull the discs back into place, grin and bear the pain while getting in walking training and continue with strength training. I'll also work on low/non-impact aerobic exercises as well. Training has taken a hit the past two weeks, but its crunch time and I still plan to participate in and complete the ToT (6.5K) and the half. Just need to structure a training plan now that will have me ready for the half and semi-healthy. Although I originally wanted a decent time (for me) at ToT (I was hoping for approximately 18 miute miles), I figure at this point that as long as I finish the 4 miles in 2.5 hours it counts as a finish, so thats what my goal will be for that--to finish.

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend if I don't get back to post again today.

Good luck with it Bill.

I just went for an easy 2.25 mile brisk walk and then did the marketing. We are still having beautiful days here.

We made our reservations for Gattlinburg, in the Smokies, for the week of the the 13th of December. We will relax and walk our final LSDs before tapering. That should get us ready for the Goofy a month later.

Kim, I agree, I'm far from being a prude but I think about 90% of the "adult" costumes are getting close to XXX rated. Maybe I'm just the wrong generation but I have to ask, are women actually wearing those revieling costumes to parties? Like you said, way to skanky for the House of Mouse.

Denise, I hope the family issues are resolved soon. That is the worse kind of stress.

Have a super day and a great weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Greetings, everyone. I am having one of my ADD days. Trying to do 20 different things at once and absolutely nothing is getting accomplished.

Kim: Happy Birthday!

patsbill: so sorry to hear about your back spasms.....been there, done that and it is not fun. Sending pixie dust your way.
There also seem to be alot of injuries posted on the weekly run/walk thread.

Please everyone, take care of yourself....we are getting very close to our events and don't want anyone too injured to participate.

Nancy: I got my yucatans in the light brown with lime green accents. I couldn't resist since it will match our shirts which hopefully be coming soon.

Denise: good job with the treadmill jog!

I seriously do not plan to wear a costume to any of the events. You are looking at the queen of light packing and I can't bear to lug anything extra. I saw a cheapie T-shirt at Walmart the other day and it said something like "This IS my costume" so I may break down and wear something like that, but that's it!

I did water aroebics this morning so no walking today. I think I'm only supposed to do 6 miles tomorrow (it's an off-week), I may do 8 because I will be away next weekend and probably won't get my LW in.

Have a happy Friday, everyone!

Can I drop in here with a question? Okay, I guess that would be 2 questions :)

I'm having a terrible time with heel blisters. Tried many different types of shoes and have moisture wicking CoolMax socks. Has anyone tried sock liners or double layer socks, and did they help?

On a side note, I have discovered Band-Aid blister blocks are wonderful.

Blisters, not sure if it works but I was told by someone that if you spray your feet with deodorant it will help prevent blisters.

Hey it's worth a try.

I use Body Glide ( http://www.bodyglide.com/ ) with great success on my feet and any area that chaffs or rubs.

Two pair of socks works well, too. I have also used moleskin in tender places and that helps. Vaeline is kinda gross, but it works, my favorite is bodyglide, though.
