Any female walker/runners have a favorite shoe?

I am doing the Princess and plan on walk/running--- mostly walking though. I have running shoes I have always loved, but I find walking hurts my feet a little more in them. So looking for something more geared to walking.

Cushioning shoes? Are these more important for a walker than a runner?

Any suggestions will be helpful. I know I can go to my running store and ask them as well, but was hoping yall had some ideas to start with! Thanks!

I walk/run and found that running shoes weren't working for me as well as walking shoes. Lots of trial and error with my shoe purchases, but I found a type that works for my weird feet and me:)
Listen to your body and you will find some that work.
Good Luck!

I would recommend going to a local running store to get fitted for shoes. You want to go somewhere that will look at how you walk/run and then suggest shoes for you to try. There are several good brands out there. It's more important to find something that fits not only your feet but your running style. Fashion needs to take a big back seat.

Amen to the local "real" running store! In 2008, I was training to walk my 1st half marathon and thought I had the right shoes. I'd read all the books and info online about what made a good walking shoe. I looked at my arches and tried to assess my pronation. Armed with all that info, I felt comfortable with my shoe selection. About halfway through training, I started having painful plantar fascitis issues and I was about to lose a toenail. A runner friend suggested I visit a local running store. The guy at the store watched me walk, measured my feet and recommended a different shoe and a different size. He said the shoe I was wearing was a good shoe, just not a good shoe for me. Within a week of switching shoes, I was already feeling relief from the PF pain and within a few weeks, it was a distant memory. Now that I've started running more than walking, I went back to have them check and they recommended a shoe with more stability.

Best Wishes!

I didn't follow my own advice until my third pair of running shoes. I didn't think they would have shoes that would fit me. I went to the "new balance" store instead of a regular running store. Fortunately I ended up with the right shoe. Confirmed when I sent to the local running store and ended up buying the newest model of the brand I was wearing. I now rotate between all 3 pairs.

Thanks guys. I know the local running shoe store is the best option, so I am going to head there this weekend. Was just hoping for a brand or something to get an idea of what a good walking shoe might be. Thanks for the help though! I'll see what RunTex has to say. :)

I'll pop in just a bit; many running shoe companies make a walker shoe. Now you may or may not like that kind of shoe. Generally a little more 'rounded' to help pick up the longer contact with ground. To my understanding, these shoes may not be what you really wnat for long distance.

As far as cushioning verses stability verses motion control - do not try to anticipate what kind of support you need until RunTex looks at your gait. Cushion shoes generally are for those who do not pronate or suppinate during foot strike; motion control are fo over pronators; stability for normal footed folks.

Have fun, you are in good hands with RT.
