Walkers Sharing Experiences

Dave,

You may be 56-57 years old but your training is more than most of the 25-30 year olds that I know.

Bryan

Hey guys!

Circuit training. I don't get so bored that way!! Well, except right now, I don't do circuit training, rotator cuff gets angy!

Dave for that cereal, try to use cereal that is much less processed like Kashi Go Lean. It has more complete proteins and doesn't require being fortified because they don't process out all the nutrition. There are other cereals that are more whole like Kashi, but read the labels and get the most bang for your buck! If the cereal costs a little more, but doesn't leave you hungry then it's worth the extra price because you won't have to fill up on something else, later.

Liz - Taper is great! Just don't go into any jewelry stores!!! The shiney metal snd sparkling gems just call out to you for some reason during taper!!!! :confused3

My pretty princess must be in constant taper then because she loves the bling. Of course being well trained I make sure she gets her bling fix ever now and then.

I'm going to do the Go Lean as soon as I finish up the huge box of Cheerios and shredded wheat.

Bryan I'm actually having a hard time believing I'm 56. I feel 30 and can still do pretty much everything I could do at 30 except work out twice a day. I need sleep between hard workouts now.

At one time I was training to be on the Base relay team for the Mt Lemon race. It was a 30 mile race with 5 people doing a 6 mile leg each. Only problem was it was straight up a mountain. I got up and ran 5 miles, at lunch I swam a mile after a hard track workout, in the evening I did weights. I couldn't train like that now.

I wish we could all get together and do our walk training. It would be fun to have company and we could work on pace and technique training.

I can't do Kashi Go Lean, sorry, but to me it is like eating tree bark.:sad2: Their Heart to Heart ceral isn't bad.

It would be fun for us all to get to walk together sometime. Hopefully, at events most of us will be there. I am still tinkering with the ToT and need to decide before August 25th.
Liking my Mizuno's so far alothough only put 4 miles on them and a day at work. Will try for 8 miles today but it start raining this morning at 5am and the radar is showing huge blobs coming in and over South Florida for most of the day. Will just have to keep an eye on it and maybe go use my sister's Dreadmill!!!!

Good Sunday Morning guys and pretty princesses.

Today is official rest day. Except for going to work, doing the marketing and some yard work. I have a race on saturday so an easy week is in order.

One of the problems with being an athlete is that it's hard to not do something. We all know how easy it is to get out of the habit and fall back to couch potato mode. Several times over my life I have had breaks from being fit for months and a couple of times years. Something happens that breaks your routine and it becomes so easy to just stop, even though you tell your self you will start right back. Then after you have lost all your hard earned fitness you finally get your head back on straight and get started back from scratch, again.

They say you improve for ten years if you stay with it. So you continue to get faster and leaner and stronger for 10 years before you level off in what you can accomplish. So if you are an on and off exerciser, you never find out how good you could be.

For our princesses, the latest RW magazine has an article rating the sports bras. It's the one with Ryan hall on the cover. The article may be on their web site also. There is also a shoe review on the latest shoes.

Have an awesome day y'all.

It is definitely hard not to do something! I know we need rest days, but on days when I don't work out, I feel like something is missing in my life.
I am trying to learn to enjoy rest days. :) I do definitely know that after 2 days of rest, I can do my best times. :goodvibes

Hello everyone!

I so hear ya on the rest thing right now. Did 5 miles this weekend but that's the last distance/time until Sunday. Pretty good times - best mile 14:11. Now just 30 min 3x this week and 20 min Sat. Just feels like I need to do more. Figure I'll spend time in the pool after each work out to relax.

Would be great if we could all walk together sometime. Since DH runs I'm always on my own.

Tracy - for ToT we're staying at SSR since gas for the RV would be killer (will drive car down). We've got a one bedroom so you are still welcome to the sofa bed.

Liz: Thanks again for the offer. Still thinking about it and if anyone from my family wants to come up for the weekend. If I do it by myself I will definately take you up on the offer. Not much of a night owl, though, as long as that's ok with you all.

Glad to hear you are hanging in there with your taper. I have a 13 miler on tap for Sunday so we'll both be going at it. Yours will be for a medal!!! Then I taper. (and pack and think about flying on a plane - ugh!).
Take care walkers.

Tracy

Erica and I did 10 miles in the heat today and hen I did the yard so I'm whipped. I'm staying hydrated though.

Liz what is that thing you have for an avatar? Doesn't look like a pretty princess to me.:confused3

One of the things I've noticed about walking in the heat is the bottom of my feet get hot, like the heat off the road is coming up through my shoes. It isn't noticeable till about 6 to 8 miles than it is mildly irritating.

Tracy, glad you are going to ToT. Last year was awesome. The night and the woods give it a sureal atmosphere and doing the walking is very good for socializing. Last year Erica and I started at the very back with Anne and moved up all through the race talking to different groups.

Yeah, Liz ...what is that thing?? A purple people eater??:lmao:

Dave: I find that happens to me alot, never mentioned it before - thought it was just a regional thing. That is why I go for a shoe that has a bit more material on the sole for the longer distances. I will def start to feel the heat coming up through the bottoms of my feet if not.
Not much of a night owl, so don't know how long I'll be able to stay up, plus then I'll have to drive home probably on Sunday, maybe Monday. I don't have my schedule for work yet for October.

You might be more of a night owl than you think. When you are with your brother and sister walker athletes, you might not want the night to end. That was how I felt last year. First time that several of us got together and it was magic.

Walking Panda - Great video! Makes me want to get out and walk. :goodvibes

Panda, Thanks for sharing that video!! That should be me one day.

Panda, the video inspired me and I went out and walked 6 miles at a 13.3 pace. It was doing my own interpretation of racewalking, but it felt great. :goodvibes

Hey Dave and any others,
I was just wandering around on the internet and came across Dave McGovern's Racewalking Website again and was checking out his clinics. He does about a week in Orlando at the National Training Center in Clermont. The cost is high, but maybe its something that could be planned in the future. (Like maybe next year??)

Just a thought.

Wow that's super princess. You have really come along, Maybe we can all walk together at the marathon this January. We have a little group of Wishers and DRs who will be walking together.

Tracy, I've thought about that camp the Dave gives for Erica and I sometime in the future.

Ahh, I wish we could but I won't be there for the marathon. I will be doing the 10k at Race for the Taste and I'm planning on the March Princess 1/2 (may not be able to pull it off). I'm definitely planning for '10, just have to juggle around our usual get-aways to be able to make this event. After doing the Minnie 15K and being part of this board I am definitely trying to plan some of our trips around Disney Events.

Sad that I won't see you at ToT or this january but 2010 will sounds great and it will be here before ya know it. By then you will be in super shape.

Hello walkers,

I'm pretty much checking out this week and won't be back for until after Labor Day. The cruise that I have been planning for over a year and a half is alomost here. I need to spend most of this week wrapping up stuff that needs to be done ahead of time both at home and at work. I will still be able to check in a few more times, but probably won't be posting. I'm excited about seeing Nancy and Norm and some other (non-WISH) DIS friends. Please say a prayer that we all have safe travels. I will try to send you link to the Panama canal webcams the day before we sail through. As luck would have it, our rooms are not on the same side as the camera, but you will at least be able to see the Disney Magic and just maybe we will be out on another deck. I will let you know the schedule when we get it.

John and I did 12 miles this past weekend. We did it slow and easy..... we just wanted to get the distance in and not worry about the time. We were a 15:40 overall, which is OK because it was hilly terrain and we were not going full throttle. I felt fine during the walk, but was very sore for many hours afterward. I guess I'll be feeling that way alot in the months to come. Official marathon training begins the end of August. We'll still be on the cruise, but it's low mileage so we'll somehow manage to get it done even if it's on a treadmill.

SamSam: what an amazing time you had, lady! Way to go! :cheer2:

Have a lovely end of summer, everyone! Please try to keep Dave on his best behavior.

Talk to you all again in a few weeks!
