I'm trying to get a shoe company to make shoes designed for marathon walkers. You can help this cause a lot by telling what shoes you wear, problems you have had finding shoes to walk in and how the current shoe is working for you.

Your information will be sent to a shoe company that is at least listening.

Thanks

Dave

I wear Asics Cumulus. I have spent $100's trying to find the right shoe, but still feel like I don't have exactly what I need.

As you know, I am kind of new to this walking concept being mostly a runner but, when I do walk, I find that my motion control running shoes have too high of a heel on them. Yes, they cushion the heel strike but it is too easy to roll to one side or the other from there. And, from past discussions, me not rolling to the inside and pushing off the ball of my foot has resulted in a disasterous case of PF. High arches tend to make you roll onto the outside which is where it all goes bad.

I offered some potential help on the New Balance front if you are interested on the walker thread. Just let me know and I will give her a call and see what I can find out for you.

So far, the shoe I can walk in best is a New Balance 1061 motion control shoe. :confused3

Connie what would make the that shoe feel better for you?

I would like less cushioning and more flexibility. I have really high arches and must use orthotics and Spenco insoles to get a neutral motion.

I wear Asics Gel-Oberon. I need more cushioning. I tried Brooks Adrenaline, but they made my gait correct, which hurt my hip more than it does without gait correction.

Stacey,

I'm a newbie, so please excuse this question, but what does that mean? They made your gait correct? It seems that something that corrects another thing is good, no? The reason I ask is because on my last 2 long walks my left hip has started hurting after about 6 or 7 miles.

The balls of my feel hurt, too. Can any of you recommend some inserts for that? It will really help me on my quest to "beat the sweeps."

Thanks,

I went to a running store and they analyzed my gait. Theyshowed me the shoes that would work to correct my gait (I'm sorry, I can't remember what my feet do, pronate ect). I bought the shoes they recommended.

When I started to use them, I started getting a major pain in my hip & bottom. I went to the chiro, and he tells me that my hip is twisted. It was twisted in the opposite way that my gait was doing (does that make any sense?).

I surmised that correcting my gait was what made my hip "learn" to do this! I switched back to the shoes I was using before. I was just in too much pain to keep using the others. Unfortunately, my hip has not "unlearn" that it can do this, so I have to keep going & get it adjusted. But, I don't have the pain when I walk.

Not that I don't recommend getting your gait analyzed, but just saying what happened to me.

Sorry so long!
